ROBERT PMoving with U-Box was extremely convenient. The new U-Boxes feel like a chunk of a box truck: secure and water resistant. I did not have tight constraints on delivery or pick up -- anything within about a week was fine -- so U-Haul's forklift / U Box schedule worked fine for me (if you are extremely time constrained, it may be hard to get a Box dropped off or picked up within a day or two). I ordered two U-Boxes not knowing if I would need one or two. I ended up only needing one, and they only charged me for one. I packed my things over a few days into the pod. They picked it up a few days later, and it was at my new place 600 miles away three weeks later. I emptied it over a few days, and they picked it up a few days later. My pod was pretty heavy - including 600 lb of books, a heavy oak table, a dresser, a bunch of boxes of household goods and one bubble wrapped and boxed large painting. When I opened the U Box, nothing had shifted and everything looks in good shape. (though remember to bubble wrap anything fragile like vases or dishes). All in all, a great experience!
David EVery bad service and bad attitude from the reception staff. I didn't have patience with everything and I was reluctant. There is no one to guide you in the facilities. They gave you a key, a warehouse code, and you see where you are going. In a few words, very bad, very bad. I was going to file a police report for the mistreatment and very poor customer and consumer service, but I decided not to do it, but in the end, I will not return to those facilities. Bryant St.

VITALY BI emailed the manager to inform him that I would not be renewing my storage unit. Surprisingly, he didn’t respond to my email. Upon further investigation, I discovered that they were charging me penalties and rent for this month. Before my contract ended, I had lined up, but the line was so long that I decided to email the manager. I sent all the pictures I had taken to show that the unit was empty and clean. After two days of waiting for a response, I returned to the front desk and informed them that I had moved out. I showed her the empty space, and she assured me that everything would be okay. Now, I need to call them again to verify that the unit was emptied and cleaned before they can cancel my contract. Wow! I highly recommend that the manager be rewarded for their excellent job.
Oliver M | Overall ExperienceI made a reservation and when I got there they said my unit was not available and I had to pay $20 more per month to get the same size or smaller. I had just cancelled a public storage storage and lost my deposit because I was able to make this reservation at Uhaul. I had all my things in my van and no one (including the phone line support) offered any kind of help. They told me that I can try a different location or just pay the higher price. I felt cornered and really stressed about the entire situation. It took over 1 hour to find me another unit because the one that I had reserved was taken by someone else on accident. The only person willing to help me was Jonathan Dubon. He went above and beyond to take his time and provide the best service. He didn’t have the ability to give me the same size unit for the same price but he still continued to do his very best to help me. There was also one individual moving box trucks outside that was also extremely kind and considerate. Otherwise I had a very terrible experience that took over 1 hour to get checked in and resulted in a unit that was the exact same size that I reserved but $20 more per month. I would appreciate speaking to the General Manager about this. Thank you. And thank you again to Jonathan for his genuine kindness and willingness to help me without saying “there’s nothing I can do for you. I don’t know what else to say” . He really made an effort and understood the situation I was in. Because everything took so long, I also had trouble returning my rental vehicle in time. It was a very stressful situation all around.

When I got them someone else then had trouble finding them, eventually found them and they weren't ready, so I sat there for 30 min while they loaded my first box onto a trailer. Frustrating wasting time when you're trying to get moved into a new place in a new city. They then said I had to be back with the box in an hour and a half before they closed .... Hopefully getting my next box goes better

GRACIOUS A | Overall ExperienceThe first staff person who checked me in appeared to be visibly under the influence of some sort of narcotics/tranquilizer. His speech was slurred, he was unable to comprehend basic information (phone numbers, names, etc...), and he assigned me to a storage unit that was literally one-half the size of the one that I had reserved. A second staff person was able to get the unit size remedied, but it added almost an hour to the check-in time.

She, the manager, and the other staff, that also helped with my Van rental, was extremely accommodating to my current needs, and had a kind, professional hand every step of the way. Although I had a storage unit with another company, I have fully switched over to U-Haul because of the service and storage options. Oh kudos to Efren and staff at the Valencia location too, who helped with my box purchase. Y'all made my move less of a headache frfr

I called and emailed about fixing this and still not response. THE WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!
MELISSA DPickup up equipment was very confusing, going from lot to office (which was not labeled), then back to pickup equipment, back to lot etc. I reserved additional rental equipment that were no longer available. 2 furniture dollies which would have made my move much smoother and when I went to pick them up, a worker said they were all out. I had reserved and paid for them so I was expecting them to have enough inventory or set aside for my reservation, this was such a bummer. The worker in that section even recommended to reserve additional rental equipment to avoid this… which I did and had told them I did. Other workers were helpful and accommodating like in the office and lot. Pickup was also very tedious. I arrived 15+ minutes before my scheduled reservation start time and in combination of getting rental equipment and getting the keys, I completed pickup after 30-45 minutes later. Drop off was made easier since I happened to run into an employee in the lot who said they’d take care of it. I had been reading the lengthy drop off process when they came up to me which saved me time.

Uploading photos is painfully slow, then the error page doesn't have a back button except at the "home" button & arrow in the top left which wipes out the registration session. Seriously? An error page without being able to correct the errors? Fire your developers.

Gary KUnfortunately, I had a bad experience with a team member, who asked me to move my car so that some random skateboards could record stunts. I was very disappointed at the way I was treated by this employee. The skateboarders wanted me to park elsewhere so they could get good footage. When I refused, I was verbally attacked by employee and skateboarders. I was surprised and disappointed that this is allowed at Uhaul. I would have to say that this is one of my worse customer service experiences, ever. Mr. Brown was friendly and professional, while my encounter with employee, who refused to give me his name, was extremely rude and unprofessional. Customers should always come first. I feel like this was not the case. I have never been treated so poorly.

Margarita C | Online Move InDear U-Haul Customer Service, I am writing to express my extreme dissatisfaction with a recent rental experience. As a loyal customer of 30 years, I am deeply disappointed with the level of service and the dangerous condition of the vehicle I rented. On 3/08/25, I rented a 10-foot U-Haul truck from 1525 Bryant St., San Francisco. Shortly after driving a few miles, the truck's battery failed. Upon contacting U-Haul's roadside assistance, I was informed that I would be charged $250 for a jump start due to not purchasing additional roadside assistance coverage. This was unacceptable, as the battery issue appeared to be either a pre-existing fault or a failure that occurred within a very short distance of rental. I was instructed to photograph the issue and upload it to U-Haul's system, contingent on agreeing to the $250 charge. Due to the late hour and the urgency of the situation, I was forced to seek assistance from a personal contact to jump-start the truck. After successfully starting the truck, I drove to a nearby gas station, where the truck again failed to start. The following morning, I attempted to address the issue. After driving a short distance, the truck again failed to start at my destination. U-Haul then instructed me to replace the battery myself. Upon having the battery tested at O'Reilly Auto Parts, it was determined to be in good working order. Upon attempting to reinstall the battery, I discovered that the battery cables were not properly fastened. I contacted U-Haul again, and a roadside assistance technician was dispatched. Upon inspection, the technician confirmed that the battery installation was faulty, noting improperly secured cables and a missing battery vent plug, which they subsequently corrected. This experience was not only highly inconvenient, resulting in the loss of two days of work and significant sleep deprivation, but also potentially dangerous. Had the vehicle failed on the freeway, as I had intended to travel, the consequences could have been severe. I am deeply concerned about the quality of vehicle maintenance being performed by U-Haul. It is imperative that only qualified technicians work on your vehicles to ensure customer safety and prevent such incidents. I request a thorough investigation, and I expect a response outlining the steps U-Haul will take to prevent similar incidents in the future.
ROGER GThe 10' truck I rented had broken tie-down railings on the side of the truck, making it very difficult to secure the items I was transporting. The truck also only had 1/4 tank of fuel instead of the 1/2 tank that I was told it had.

FRANK JThe staff was great. However two major problems: when I retrieved my furniture it had water damage and smelled like Diesel fuel. So essentially I paid 10k for 5 years of storage to retrieve furniture now worth nothing because of poor storage conditions. Also when I was moving out I saw a guy riding a bike in and out of the unit repeatedly stealing stuff. I would NEVER store stuff here again. Complete. waste of time and money. Uhaul destroyed my possessions

RENESHA WThis was my first rental of the week. Here is a recap of what transpired: 1. I rented moving blankets. When I picked up the key I asked for them to make sure the blankets were at the bottom of the ramp. After I was done checking in my vehicle I drove down and the blankets were not there. I parked on the ramp, walked to the front desk and asked again. After waiting a few more minutes I saw a guy coming down the ramp. I asked if he worked there to which he responded " Well, I'm not here for fun!". I told him I was waiting for the blankets to which he responded " look, I'm the only one here. I have vehicles backed up all that need to be driven in and returned and its just me. You are going to have to get them yourself." After another 15 minutes I figured out where they were located, counted them and found an employee to ensure he knew what I was taking. If your team is not committed to providing rental items why is it even an option that is pushed on the website?
ELVIS SThe U-haul employees at the front counter are always above and beyond helpful. One of the best teams I've seen in the area. My experience recap is as follows: - This was my second rental this week. I needed more accessories to help me with my work move. I did not order them based on my first experience where I spent a considerable amount of time waiting for them. I did order moving blankets. They were not at the bottom of the driveway. I asked 2 times. They never arrived. I was told that if I wanted moving blankets I should walk in to the warehouse and grab them myself. I did not feel comfortable doing this but in the interest of time I went ahead and did it. Sure enough, as I walked in to the warehouse I was stopped by an employee asking what I was doing in there. After I explained I carried the bag back out of the tunnel and up the ramp.
ELVIS SThis was my third visit to this location in a week. I rented a van each time. During the first visit I was unable to retrieve the additional items that I rented ( moving blankets) for about 2o mins. I was told that If I wanted the moving blankets I ordered/rented that I would have to walk in to the warehouse and get them myself. I visited a second time, this time I needed additional rental items but refrained from ordering them because I suspected the experience would be the same. The location once again asked me to walk in to the warehouse and get my rental items myself. During the third visit I also rented moving blankets. Not to my surprise, I was told to grab them myself from the warehouse while the two employees tested in one of the rental vehicles. Additionally, the rental vehicle had a bumper that was previously damaged that scraped the tire and the fuel gauge was incorrectly marked making it more difficult for me to pickup. I wasted a lot of time.

NOAH CThe representative at the front desk took way too long to find my reservation, and kept telling me that they didn't have any reservation for me even though I had email and app proof. Seems like they simply didn't understand the computer system they were using. additionally, they were not communicative with the process at all when I finally got the keys, such as where to go pickup the car, or where to drop off the car. The box truck itself was covered in graffiti, which looked very unprofessional for the use of the box truck. Lastly, something is wrong with the gas tank hose as it would not intake gas easily at any gas station we went to (we tried two different gas stations, and four pumps total and each one had the same issue). The person who received the vehicle was very kind, professional, and definitely a joy to work with, though. Thank you!

The property Mgr Name is Anthony Brown, on Bryant St. San Francisco, CA This complaint is not for the store I'm returning in Hayward CA today
Paris E | Overall ExperienceGetting checked in to a storage was a mess. The person that originally helped me did not do the paperwork for the storage so when I came back I had to do it. Due to this I to pay the movers 2 hours extra for the delay of getting the paperwork done and unit figured out. The original unit was too small and then had to go get a new one. Then it had a lock on it so staff had to find another one and we looked at 4 different ones. When we finally saw one that didn’t have a lock, it was an upstairs unit, which was tricky for the movers to put everything in! The only positive is that the staff here are super sweet and definitely deserve a raise !!! Also the truck return there was only one staff , I felt so bad for him because there were 5-8 trucks being retuned at the same time and he was by himself!

ANTON SWould not recommend Anthony Brown for any customer facing positions as he is very rude and dismissive of any asks brought to him by customers. He was the first face I saw when arriving at the location, and he did not address, greet, or let me approach. When I asked additional questions, he did not seem receptive to additional questions, resulting in me going back and forth between the office space and rental. All other staff were very friendly and helpful in lieu of their manager.

At that time all dollies were locked. Luckily, why wondering around, I located one. There gotta be a way for late movers to get a dolly with certainty. 2. After I booked a van in person, I realized that I forgot keys from unit home. On the way home, I noticed two passenger cars occupying the ONLY two loading spots. I came back in 2 hours, the same card were occupying the ONLY loading spots. When I finished loading the van 1.5 hours later, the same card were standing there with no visible action whatsoever. When there are so few loading spots, they MUST be used for loading ONLY!! 3. The rails on the loading dock prevent use of the side sliding doors on the vans, which is a MAJOR inconvenience. This is too easily fixable by putting a bit more concrete on the parking spots, this raising the level of the spot in relation to the level of the dock. Otherwise, outstanding experience exceeding my most rosy expectations. Thank you very much specifically to Hakili and manager Brown: both high class, superb professionals with outstanding customer service.

Diederik V | Overall ExperienceThe biggest knock was when I moved into the unit, I reserved a truck and moving equipment, at 6 a.m. on the day of the move, I was informed my reservation couldn't be honored and that I had to drive over an hour and a half away in the South Bay to get a truck, and not only that, I had to rent it round trip, so it added 3 hours and a ton of gas costs to my rental. The next Uhaul didn't have any of the equipment I reserved, and it doubled my costs, even after the standard credit for not having a truck ready. Since I was renting a truck from the facility and renting a storage unit, I would've expected far better customer service than I received. Not only were they unhelpful, they were rather rude and ended up hanging up on me.

I experienced some slight difficulty related to 1) determining the location of my rented storage unit within the building and 2) using the freight elevator. I feel that the customer experience could be made even better by considering and making improvements to both. I'll provide more details below. 1) Location of rented storage unit: I entered the facility on the 2nd floor. Welcome emails from Uhaul storage indicated to me that my storage unit was in the 6000s. However, when I reviewed the posted maps of the 1525 Bryant Uhaul facility I wasn't able to visually locate where my unit within the facility. A Uhaul employee passing was able to direct me towards the correct floor/section of the facility, but this was briefly a confusing experience. 2) Use of the freight elevator: While the documentation provided on the walls of the elevator is pretty good, use of the freight elevator is a bit challenging for new customers like myself and realistically requires some trial and error or observing others operate. It's my opinion that any improvements that could be make to simplify the controls of this elevator would make for a better customer experience.

The GM didn’t return my message. I finally got through by insisting that I would wait on hold to talk to him and that it was urgent. Meanwhile, me and my emergency contact are receiving letters and emails threatening liens, which made me look irresponsible to someone I care about, through no fault of my own. I finally got it dealt with almost a month after I first tried to cancel. Since I moved out, took my lock with me, and left the unit visibly empty and the door open, it shouldn’t have taken so much work to confirm that I was being charged for services I didn’t receive.

An employee told me that the facility had a rodent infestation in 2018 and I could file a claim. My belongings were properly stored in sealed boxes and luggage with nothing perishable or anything that could attract pests. No one from Uhaul showed any accountability or assisted me in any way. I contacted Gene Carr, who ignored me. I brought in a rodent cleanup professional from American Attic at my own expense to help me salvage my belongings. He told me the rodents were small rats. The rats had gotten into all my sealed boxes and luggage and contaminated and damaged everything. Even with his help, I had to throw away many treasured items. My Persian rug will have to be professionally cleaned. Until the end, Uhaul was rude and unhelpful. The staff would not even unlock an outlet so my service person could use his hepa vacuum for disinfection. Uhaul knew about the infestation in 2018, but did not inform me so I could retrieve my items.

The GM is great and is good at his job most of the employees seem great too. Security guy was also very kind and helpful. The girl behind the counter when I came to pick up my card was the only issue. She gave poor instructions and I had to return to her 3 times for assistance when she could've just gotten up and helped me the first time. Wasted mine and my movers time. Also the card system is a bit wonky, it requires multiple attempts which is fine once you know but is very disconcerting at first. Should be warned about this when receiving the card.

I called customer service asking to change the unit because it was too late to get a lock, however they mentioned there was nothing they could do. It was too late to buy a lock from anywhere. all in all it was not the kind of customer service I expect from a company like U-Haul. I ultimately found another customer by chance and bought a lock from them for $50. Poor experience would not recommend.

That said, I will not advise putting someone who has below average interpersonal communications skills in a customer facing role. The person did not have the cognitive functioning and critical thinking skills to answer simple questions and to support a smooth and friendly customer experience. They were even vindictive as when I asked for a unit near the elevator and door, they gave me a unit that was absolutely the farthest from the elevator door and up the stairs.

Giving 2 stars instead of 1 because of his help, but he *really* needs to get some better people around him. Every other employee I've interacted with over my 3 years of storing things here has been rude, flippant, and unhelpful. I've seen employees yelling at other customers for not understanding instructions that were obviously not presented clearly. The employee putting away vehicles in the 4th floor parking lot on the afternoon of August 2, 2023 (white guy with facial hair) was driving extremely dangerously — flooring it up the ramp and skidding out, drifting cars into spots. He came very close to hitting my partner, who was on foot. Pretty much every time I've visited, the internet has been down in the building, leading to multi-hour-long wait times to get anything done. TWICE I reserved things at this location and showed up day-of to find that they had been given to someone else, causing havoc on an already stressful moving day.

Moving out with a trailer instead of a truck meant having to take the carts to an elevator (which was often in use, adding extra tedium), downstairs, and out to the loading dock. The biggest issue I have is that when I originally reserved, it was for a smaller unit, not up any stairs, and $89/month. When I arrived with my U-Haul truck full of belongings, I was told that there was a glitch in the system and the unit I'd reserved was not available. I had already moved, so I had no other choice but to take a larger space, up a set of stairs, for $209/mo, which was outside of my budget and which I struggled to pay. The person who checked me in that day did not care about the bait-and-switch, but service is generally good here. Shout-out to Gino who is especially helpful and awesome! Total pro.

For instance the day I moved my things out of storage, I went to the counter to let them know and close my account. Or if they did, it was not clear to me because of their attitude. What happened was I packed up the truck, removed the truck and then drive out of their, thinking I had already informed them of my leave and was good to go. When I received an email stating I’m late on my storage payment, I was confused. Uhaul also notified my employer who I put down as an emergency contact, so that was embarrassing because he asked me what’s going on with Uhaul. I got on the phone to take care of it, expecting some more attitude and hassle. The woman who ultimately closed my account was surprisingly very helpful and courteous, reducing my fee to half which that was above and beyond my expectations and I absolutely appreciate that.

They followed me into the store and looked over my shoulder into my purse. I got nothing that I paid for. After my key disappeared I abandoned my goals of moving into storage. I was approached by a gentleman claiming to be a locksmith who also asked me to go to the bank. The moving helpers that I hired ($205) were inadequate looking and I felt scammed. Other than that the location, prices and storage availability are very good.

I was also paying a lower rate - so a much better value. My prior storage facility allowed vagrants and people loitering at or near the facility - so there were safety issues in addition to fumes and dirt. I personally recommended U-HAUL storage to a number of people needing storage in San Francisco.

Starting with helping me coordinate the shipment of the pods, renting a truck and renting the storage unit, to any subsequent time that I needed a truck or van to shuffle my things around, every transaction was easy and everyone was always friendly. The building and the unit were easy to access and felt secure, and a truck was available each time I needed to rent one. I've been so impressed, and I'm very happy with my experience. The staff was not helpful during that time and refused to extend our truck rental time even though we spent 2 hours in the emergency room before we could use the truck. Since then, however, the staff has been kind. The manager is very friendly and flexible. Although the facility is a little cumbersome to navigate, I was happy with the late hours of operation. Because every other encounter was excellent, I gave the excellent rating despite the harrowing events earlier in the year.

Mary R | First ImpressionsService staff was condescending and unhelpful. They seemed more concerned about theft prevention than provide us excellent customer service. We were upgrading our unit and the unit size we reserved online wasn’t available in reality. No apologies, no empathy, nothing. Your current process made it VERY difficult to transition to a larger unit. We ended up with a smaller size unit and did our best to make it fit our needs. You have us trapped as customers because you know it’s not easy for us to move our business elsewhere. The alarms in the building are at an ear damaging decibel and go off regularly. They are unbelievably loud. You should swap out the yellow buttons used to keep carts in their home location. Twice while moving our storage contents we clipped a yellow button and sent our valuables tumbling to the ground. The location is a huge maze and the staff didn’t do anything to help show us the easiest route from our old to new storage unit. Half way through our several hour move we identified a closer freight elevator and a much short route between our two points. It would have been nice for the staff to have provided that guidance and improved our experience. The pass card to access the building (which we have been using for years) denied us access into the storage floor and when I took it to the customer representative to find out why she told me our card wasn’t assigned to our unit and then proceeded to argue with me when I shared we’ve only had the one unit will ever at this U-haul location. She we a larger woman and very unpleasant to deal with. I tried to engage with her and be friendly and got nothing from her. Same with the gentleman who helped me. The sign about the large, recent investment in carts above the cart station on level two is tacky and should be taken down. Ensuring there are operational carts and moving tools is a cost of doing business. There were messages all over the building of what we can/can’t do and some with associates charges for braking any rule. It didn’t add to our experience in a positive way. The only positive point in our experience was a cleaning lady on the fourth floor who could see we were lost, stopped her work and proactively helped us. You need more people like her on staff. Our visit was on 10/22 from about 11 am - 3 pm.

I only used the unit two months as $113 for that small unit was just to much.

Staff generally friendly and professional though. I sympathize that their job is difficult under the conditions at this site.

But I was told on the phone twice that I had reserved a 12 x 7 x 8 on the first floor and arrived to find it wasn't available. I ended up having to get a 2nd space because we couldn't lift the sofabed and some other heavy boxes up the stairs. I was quite disappointed and will now have to call daily to see if another opens up so I can have just one space and on a floor without steps. Will also have to hire movers to move everything once a space becomes available.

Luckily, another similar unit was available, but this could have been a significant concern if there was not another unit available. This should be fixed. Happy with the accessibility and cleanliness of the location. Providing carts and a free section to leave lightly used items was convenient. No lighting in my unit which made it hard to see in there from just the hallway lighting. But generally a good experience.

I called multiple times to ask questions almost a week before my move-in date in order to get some clarification, and no one had any idea how to answer my questions. I was told conflicting things by different people. The website wouldn't let me check-in for a unit and get my one month free from renting a truck. Of course the storage people said there's nothing they can do, so we called 1-800-go-uhaul. The lady did it with us on the phone, and there was still no way to get the free month. She told us to reserve a new unit, pay for it, and present the receipt + truck confirmation at the location for a refund. Of course, the storage people later said they couldn't give me a refund and that I was told ''wrongful information.'' Unbelievable. In addition, because I had to make a new reservation in order to check-in online, I ended up getting a unit that was on top of another one. It took OVER 3 HOURS to take big pieces of furniture up those metal stairs, and my back was destroyed by the end of it. I had specified in the original reservation that I wanted one on the bottom. The map was also useless and it took us over 30mins to even locate the storage unit in the first place. The location is in a terrible area and we had people try to take our stuff, as well as tailgate into the facility after we unlocked the door. I am extremely angry and disappointed, and would not recommend this place to anyone. I can't wait to get my stuff out of there.

We were coming from out of town and were going to arrive after hours and was told that we could not do online check in of our existing reservation, that we either had to check in in person or cancel our reservation and select a “rent now” unit. After 2 hours of frantically trying to rent another unit that the manager said was going to be available, we saw in the footnotes that you CAN check in online. All that stress for nothing. Once we got there after hours, it was very unclear the process for which to access the building using the arm/disarm and unlock gate. Luckily Gene picked up the phone to help us get in, otherwise we would’ve been screwed. Please train your staff on the self serve IT capabilities and make it clearer how to use the code to check in.

Otherwise everything else was good as far as physical experience.

Card replacement when I lost it was a breeze, when I expected it to be a lot more complicated. My only complaint is that over the years everything in my unit began to smell like mouse or rat pee. You can barely wash that scent off from plastics try as you may. Ugh. Oh well, probably comes with the territory.

The storage manager advised me to call in and speak to her to check what was available but whenever I called nobody would let me speak to her she is always “unavailable”. Everyone that works here seems miserable, they sigh and roll their eyes when you try and ask for help. It wasn’t clear that my lock would be in the locker I waited in line for nothing. By signing up online I couldn’t add a storage unit to my existing contract, I now have two separate contracts. The moving carts they used to have at this location are gone, they claim they are available at the front desk but when you go and ask they say there are none.

I asked where to park to unload things and the staff member on the phone said to park in the loading dock. I told him that my movers were going to park there and start unloading the van. He said okay and told me he couldn’t take any of my info regarding emergency contact/additional contacts over the phone. When I arrived, I had to wait in line for 45 minutes because there was only one employee. My movers unloaded the entire truck in the van. Then I was told my unit would be on the 4th floor so they had to drive up to the 4th floor and unload up there. I couldn’t find it and asked for help because the map was very unclear. No one helped me initially. I had to go find someone else and they couldn’t find my unit. When i found it, it had someone’s name written on it so it was unclear if it was mine. Then my key card didn’t work so I almost got locked in the elevator. The unit I had was the dimensions described but the 10 feet goes to the ceiling instead of wide, so it was not helpful at all and I couldn’t fit enough in it because no one can stack things 10 feet safely. I ended up having to pay my moved for an extra 1.5 hours due to the lack of service and the employee telling me it was okay for the movers to unload things on the first floor, only to tell us it needed to be reloaded and unloaded again on the 4th floor. I wasted so much money and I’m VERY upset. There was no manager available to assist with my issue. I would not recommend this facility to anyone.

An employee came and found me after I called the office to notify them the elevator wasn’t working. It was only at that time they told me the elevator was in fact broken. A u-haul employee quickly came to find me. He was great - explained and showed me what to do next. I ended up having to carry all my stuff up to the 4th floor to exit the building. There is no access out with you things off the 3rd floor. I was told the elevator could be out of use for hours and they notified the “offsite” technician. Fast forward an hour or two I learn on my own that the elevator had been repaired. But no one told me and they knew Of my situation. Turns out I spent 90 minutes lugging mattresses, furniture and boxes one by one upstairs when I could use the elevator. Not ok.

When I first rented my unit, the staff member who recommended my size was completely off which required me to last minute rent an extra storage unit, raising my cost far above competitors. Management was impossible to get in touch with and was so unprofessional in their communication that a Uhaul representative was concerned. The representative sent notices for management to return my calls and they never did. My move out was disorganized and never logged in the system, requiring my hired movers to stay late and charge me extra. All of these issues were attempted to be resolved before leaving this feedback. A horrible experience from beginning to end.

But when we came with the loaded truck we have been told that the size is not available and UHaul Storage can give us bigger storage for bigger price. We accepted the bigger size and asked to honor the price of the reservation. But we were told that they can't do it and that we are not reasonable by asking such things. ?!!! We called the corporate Uhaul customer support and they were absolutely useless because they have no decision making power. Since we were put on the spot we had no options to choose other alternatives, so we accepted the bigger storage with bigger price after an hour of argument with the manager Gene Carr III. It is crucial to fulfill the reservation, because moving process is very stressful. The reservation means that Uhaul gives us a Promise that when we come we get it for 100% in the way it was promised. Uhaul broke the promise and the value of the brand. I am asking to fix your reservation system. If for some uncontrolled reason Uhaul can't fulfill the promise, then Uhaul has to notify the client immediately, so the client would get a chance to look for he alternatives. The Uhaul customer service representative told us that the price of the reservation can be honored. Please adjust the price according to our reservation.

The when you sign up for autopay they take it out whenever they want. No set date. Then the pandemic. Struggling to make ends meet and hit with yet another email and price gouge. spencer v | Overall ExperienceI booked this storage unit a month in advance & when I got there heard that the units were overbooked & I got the last one in the place. Online this unit was listed as a unit for a one bedroom place & it was a glorified closet. I got one of the units that was not even full size & it had mouse traps in it & a pipe straight through the middle. There were no other units so it was either I get that one or I leave my stuff on the street. I was able to fit half of what I anticipated. Nowhere near the size for a one bedroom place. Definitely did not get what I paid for.

The 15th street storage facility is so convenient, across from post office and easy parking. Gene was especially helpful, always available, and always made me feel welcome. All staff were diligent in following all COVID precautions and mandates. I only needed short term storage and it was so easy to cancel. Thank you for great customer service and experience. I highly recommend Uhaul and the storage facility at 15th street.

I needed to put the truck in the same line as car returns and then back it into a space causing all kinds of confusion. Then I couldn’t get it out of there for 30 mins after I was done due to a giant return line. The arrow says to go one direction but I had to reverse out where the line was. My unit also has a giant structural support inside it taking up a huge amount of space - I don’t know if the second load of stuff I take there will even fit inside!!
Michael E | First ImpressionsMy only complaint so far is that when I pulled into the equipment return bay to park, I was approached by a man in work clothes whom stated that he would park my truck for me and asked if I would need help unloading my truck. I assumed that he worked for Uhaul and agreed to his help, assuming that if he worked for Uhaul, I could add any charges for his help to my bill. I had assumed that if he did not work for Uhaul, that they would not have allowed for him to be on their property soliciting me. Even the manager knew he was there as he followed us on my tour and moved my truck to the garage area. The manager did not say a word. Mid way through unloading my truck, the man asked me how much I would be willing to pay him in cash for his help. I was shocked to find out that he did not work for Uhaul and was upset that he required cash payment since I did not have much cash on me. The man was super nice and helpful, but I felt very deceived and upset that the company allowed this to happen on their property right under their noses with no warning to me.

Upon arrival to confirm my space I was told "there was a glitch in the system, that space is not available anymore, we have a smaller unit for you and that's the best we can do." I'm glad I came to confirm my reservation two days before moving my stuff into it....otherwise all of my belongings would have been stuck overnight in a Uhaul truck on the streets of San Francisco. Needless to say, my things wouldn't fit in the smaller unit, therefore I had no other choice but to take my business elsewhere. I've moved several times in the last 3 years, and every move I used Uhaul. This is the last time I will ever conduct business with your company. I have made it a point to tell this to post my experience on social media as well as leave you a horrible review on Google and Yelp. Good luck with your business model of price gouging and not honoring your reservations.

Luckily, they did have one, and increases the price over the price from my online reservation. I was told to sign without giving any details about the unit, “does it matter? it’s the only one available.” I wasn’t even told the price until I asked for a breakdown of the total. I wasn’t given a chance to review the contract, which was very unfavorable (2 visits per day, 30 min max per visit, etc.). Wasn’t given any instructions for locating, or accessing unit.

Quran M | Overall ExperienceI got there at 1:30 PM to get the storage unit and truck I reserved online the night before. When i got there was told the unit I reserved was unavailable and they attempted to charge me more money for a significantly smaller unit. When I mentioned the $50 reservation gaurantee, they started texted for a while and eventually I was told the original one actually was available. Then was abotu an hours-worth of going to the unit and finding it already had a lock, going back to tell them, being asked to go take a picture, coming back and then being told they gave me the wrong unit number, then going back, finidng another lock, going back to the front desk an telling them, waiting for someone to come with a key: the key didnt work. had to go back to the front desk, they got all these other keys... none of them worked and they said they had to cut the key. This basically took 3 hours from start to finish, not including trying to get the truck I reserved (which was similarly a disorganized chaotic nightmare). I ended up barely making the van back to the storage unit before the access would cut off. While I was in there loading it, the window of my car was smashed... lots of people hanging around out outside looking for stuff to steal I guess. I left my phone in the unit and was locked out,still dont have my phone... there is no mechanism in place to help with these legit issues. Also, requested a van and got a truck which charges double the mileage, and ordered a dolly and didnt get one (but surprise, got charged for it)
Shelby S | First ImpressionsI rented a UHaul van and storage unit to store my belongings for a temporary move out of SF. This was the craziest moving experience of my life. I reserved the storage unit a month ahead of time, but wasn't able to move in the first day of my reservation. I figured I would start being charged on the start date and could move in whenever, but I showed up a week later to pick up my van (the day before my flight out of SF), I was told that my storage reservation had been cancelled **without notifying me** and there were no other large units available. HOLY ****!!! What kind of insane corporate policy is that?! Luckily an AWESOME employee, Gino, worked with me for hours to find an abandoned unit and clean it out so I could use it. If he hadn’t been so helpful, I would have had to abandon half of my belongings in a dumpster. As is, the delay meant I had to make my last storage drop-off after the office closed. The neighborhood is a bit sketchy in the daytime, but at night, it’s downright dangerous. For context, I’m a large guy, so not usually concerned for my safety in the city. But there were at least five people siphoning gas from trucks left on the street, and multiple others that started circling me as soon as I parked. I decided to leave and come back in the morning for fear of my things being stolen. Thankfully, Gino helped me extend my truck reservation to the next morning and I was able to move the rest of my things early before my flight. The higher-ups at UHaul need to rethink their reservation processes and invest in better security for this location. Gino deserves a serious raise/promotion!

She was immediately unpleasant to deal with over the phone, after I explained my situation, she responded with “that’s not how things work around here” as if I work there. Will not be returning/using this facility in the future.

De verdad tengo una muy mala experiencia con ustedes, y tampoco encontré un storage del tamaño que yo quería, solo tomé ese por urgencia pero si no hubiera tenido urgencia de verdad no rentó nada.

I called once and the manager kept me on the line for 10 minutes then got really snippy with me about my form of payment, refusing to run my card again. Eventually he ran it again and it was fine. The day I turned my unit in was fine and easy, the lady at the counter was kind and didn’t bug me for anything. I will never return to use this u-haul rental bc of the way the male manager treated me over the phone.

John R | Overall ExperienceStarted off good, but when our storage key, which we bought at the uhaul office, broke (key snapped into half) at the time of the first use of the storage, staff at the office did not offer anything helpful. They told us the technician left for the day (3pm) therefore only way to get it fixed is we call locksmith and pay for $175 by ourselves. We are not satisfied of this solution as the key is bought brand new at the uhaul office and the door was poorly aligned to begin with. Also, we had to pay $175 for locksmith out of our pocket just because technician was not around even during the office hour is extremely frustrating. We do not understand why we had to cover the cost for all of this when it was due to poorly maintained door on our storage unit. If such misalignment is typical, or hours of onsite technicians is limited, the staff needs to inform new customers like us in advance.

He went on to say he did not have room. It is not my job to balance inventory. He carried on about how I needed to work with him. If I did not negotiate with him it was disrespectful. I had an attitude? It was rude and equal to the pickup when they told me even though I had paid reservations, the trailer was not ok and I needed to take an uber to another location to get my rental. Just the worst. When you read the bad reviews, times it by 100. Just awful.
