I believe this should have been working and this was disappointing. Also I had to return the next day to correct the contract as there were spelling issues on the paperwork.

CHARLES HThe elevator has been broken for almost a month. When my ubox arrived, I could not bring my belongings into my unit on the second floor. The staff offered “1 month free” in a 5x8 unit. This must be the unit that they cannot sell to people because half of it is taken up by a staircase. I had to request a different one then was moved to the back of that building. I need a manager to contact me about the elevator, as I will not be paying for the additional unit after the first month. My email is jacksgagnon@hotmail.com

KARL MThe truck I got appears to have an exhaust leak or cracked exhaust manifold, which got noisier as I drove cross country. The truck also had a minor steering pull to the left. Not a concern or even noticeable around town, but annoying after a hundred miles or more. It would have been hard to find these before the trip, so I don't hold that against U Haul. I reported them to the top-off site, so I trust that they will get fixed.

JUAN ACheck-in was easy. Check out was a little confusing. Lots of signs to read and it wasn't clear when I should actually get out of the van, so that was a little confusing. It would help if the attendant would clarify what they needed to do to complete the transaction/inspection and then to inform the driver that they could exit the driver's seat. Otherwise, very easy. The van wasn't real dirty. It was just apparent it had not been washed off inside the doors and along the bottom of the outside of the van.

When I went to return the truck the girl at the counter was really rude and told me that because I didn’t call roadside there was nothing she could do for me. I told her I was afraid to turn the truck off to put gas on it because it may not start again. She called her manager who informed me that if I didn’t put gas on it o could no longer rent from Uhaul ever again! It was the worst customer service I have ever received. I did end up putting gas in the truck and when I returned i checked out with a young man who was nice! The girl and the Manager were not nice and could use some customer service skills!

JOSEPH MYour inspection should be your responsibility not mine. Its your equipment. Can rental places walk through an inspection with you, rather than pushing that responsibility onto their customers. Uhaul should fall in line. You should have photos of the condition of the vehicle if you are tracking it that closely. Nextly, its impossible for me to get up onto the roof to inspect it. Its not reasonable to ask your customers to do so. I've never seen a Uhaul employee do this either. It requires a ladder. So quit asking. Its not reasonable to ask your customers to take photos when you have the van in a narrow parking space that makes it impossible to take photos of the side. Its also VERY unreasonable to ask your customers to even walk through an inspection when your website doesn't work properly. I tried doing so and it says "At least one photo" is required. I took 3 using the button on the site but they did not seem to get uploaded. Instead I had to waste my time continuing to try and get your website to accept them. In the end I gave up. If I'm renting equipment, its because I have something to do with it. I don't want to waste my time when you have 5 people working there who can do all of the above in advance and you don't even bother testing and properly maintaining your website.

GEORGE HToo, too many furniture pads for small unit. Just used up space I could have used. One of two boxes was smaller, obviously older, and in poor condition. Then I saw one our the new metal boxes and knew I drew the short straw. All else was fine but your app doesn't quit work accurately so I quit using it. Great staff friendliness, response time, and accuracy. True professionalism. Lastly, I ordered additional items on line like tape and boxes but that order never went through. Then I learn it's from a secondary provider and that if I'm billed that I should contact them. Troublesome. Last, my boxes arrived in town a week before delivery to my home. Is your business really too busy to keep the boxes a week in storage? Seems odd, but if business is that could, you should hire more staff and buy equipment before bad reviews catch up to you.

My wife and I were without half of our possessions for over a month. Staff was hard to get a hold of and did not communicate well. Glad I don’t live near the Hazel Dell location anymore.

I got a few texts about it but was always so busy I never had time to cancel it. Of course, I got charged $95 as the next month rolled around, so I had to call during my break at work. Cameron (I may be remembering their name wrong) picked up Wednesday morning. I told them I would not need the unit. Before I even asked for a refund, they told me they already processed the refund. They were very friendly, helpful and polite. Overall a very good experience, even if I didn't need the unit. Thanks "Cameron!"

You then harassed my daughter despite having texted me and a response. Also, poorly lit loading/unloading area caused a lost lock which you refused to unlock costing me an additional 55 on top of close to $700 I spent that week on uhauls gas insurance overcharged 20 for unrequested dolly etc. Definitely going with a different company for my upcoming move.

My previous storage in Syracuse, NY was very convenient because there were large garage spaces you could back your car into and close the doors behind you so that it contained your car while you loaded. Here, you have one small place to park a car outdoors. And then you have to slide your access card every single time you want to head back inside. It is extremely inconvenient for loading and unloading a large amount of things. That said, the carts were dirty all the time and so my things always got more dirty. The U-Haul truck was dirty so my things got more dirty from that and every time I leave my hands are completely filthy. At least, this place does a good job keeping down the mice population, as far as I can tell. I was moving out of my storage unit 20 days ahead of schedule due to my moving situation. I requested to borrow a broom from the staff since the U-Haul they rented me was full of dirt. They said they would bring one to me but they never did. I had my belongings outside ready to load so, I had to just load into the dirty trailer, again. I was not reimbursed for the 20 days that I did not use the storage unit since I was moving out early. I think this is a huge flaw in your service and I will not recommend U-Haul storage to anyone in the future. You are money hungry. The staff are friendly at the beginning when they are taking your money but if you have an issue later, they are not helpful. This is a very busy U-Haul facility and I understand that takes into account.

Sometimes money is tight and the due date should always be convenient for the consumer. Your fees are becoming too high. Just because you can raise prices doesn't mean you should. You will lose more money with people being unable to pay their bill.

I’ve forgotten my online passwords, phone numbers (international moves) bank cards… I was always assisted by kind, empathetic people who made everything easy. In these years, my rent had only gone up $50. My husband had a similar storage at another national storage facility and his rent went up $250! (Not to mention what a huge pain they are to deal with!) Great staff - recognizing most people using your facility or service are most likely going thru stressful times, so having staff like you do is important!

ROBERT C | First ImpressionsI payed almost $3000 to uhaul for the safe and clean storage of my belongings. I also paid another $1500+ to move my belongings. The truck and the storage unit I rented were not clean at the time I rented them, the bathrooms and the elevator at the facility were disgusting every time I visited the storage unit, there were vagrants wandering the halls several times I was there, half of the time the lights were not on in the corridors where my unit was located, there were no lights in the unit at all, and the layout of the building was inconvenient and ill-conceived. Seriously, who's short-sighted idea was it to put stairs in a storage facility with floors ADA inaccessible? I am surprised you haven't been sued for this. Perhaps uhaul does not value my money or patronage or even safety, as they are a corporate entity with little to no regard for their customers. The money I paid uhaul was not a small amount for most people in this country. The fact that there is no benefit to actually cleaning out a storage unit or rental vehicle, or for vacating the unit/returning the vehicle early, but would be penalized for the opposite, is not customer centric and is included with the above reasons I will avoid doing business with uhaul in the future.

Edward H | Overall ExperienceI called ahead of time, reserved a unit and left a credit card number. With no notice, my unit was cancelled and the staff were difficult to work with on finding a suitable replacement, so I had to escalate my concern. I was then given two 5x10 units and told it was a 10 x 10 with two doors. No communication to me that it was two completely separate units. Fortunately an employee recognized the issue and was able to find me a new unit, however, since there were no 10x15 like I had originally reserved, I had to store in two separate units. Security is lacking, if present at all. The gaps at the top of the divisions between units are so large that someone can, and did, enter a vacant unit next to mine, reach through and steal my stuff. The office and manager did not care at all and just told me to file a police report. I did get an employee to walk over and lock the adjacent unit, which was then removed by the next visit. I was told their "storage workers" wouldn't have known why the unit was locked. Any sort of communication could have fixed this. Front doors were constantly permanently open when I visited and there is no staff near the entrance of storage, so anyone can walk in. Every time I had a problem, I was assured by the staff they would communicate it to the manager. Every time I asked the manager why he had not contacted me, he just blamed his staff for not telling him. I even emailed and was told it was "lost". I spent a huge amount of time and money moving my items to a new storage facility because Uhaul left me with no confidence my items would be secure. The only positive was that Uhaul did pay for my truck so I could move my items out of their facility. There are many facilities in the area for storage. Uhaul needs to figure themselves out.

Phillip P | Overall ExperienceThe billing cycle does not correspond with the end of the month; which caused me to have several late fees in the initial rental period. I paid until the end of the month~ why was I charged a late fee by not paying by the 23rd. After several months of late fees/ complaints/ coming in and arguing with employees~ I finally figured out how it works! Problem is~ when I checked out I was not reimbursed for the time from 23rd of the month to the end~! I am ok with this but make note~~ I will not do a survey where YOU ask the questions! Yes ~ your units were secure/ clean and assessable when I needed. Your Staff always provided timely answers and solutions. The sign in kiosk in the building had a few problems reading my card and had to walk up to the office on SEVERAL occasions to have them run my card and they never had a problem! The kiosk was the issue but no one seemed concerned because I got checked in. Well the distance from the storage building to the office was MORE distance than my disability was rated for! The inconvenience and not so much interest in fixing a kiosk did not set well with my feelings. I hope I have helped you with my feedback!

harold w | First ImpressionsI was told that if signed up for auto pay that I would get a free month, I got the free month, but auto pay wasn't even set up. I assumed it was, that's my bad, but I was told that was all I had to do. When it came time to pay rent, you guys sent my driver, the late notices, and all he was just my driver. So I got charged a 30 late fee that I had no idea about. I called over and over, someone sent an email to an upper and said he or she would get back to me and they never did. That's frustrating and annoying.

I had three units at your facility and the first time I dealt with Jonathan and each subsequent time I hoped I would be able to deal with him. I arrived at the storage facility with a trailer after having driven 2,000 miles from Northern Michigan. I was tired and Jonathan took care of me and even stayed past 7pm to ensure I had unloaded my cargo and unhitched the trailer. He deserves a raise and extra paid vacation days. His diligence and patience has made the whole process stress free. You should make him the manager!

I was on a bit of a time crunch and working off of two hours of sleep within the last 24 hours from moving a 5 bedroom house to 4 different locations solo and had only about 30 minutes left of my truck rental to load up the little remnants i had into a storage unit. He was lighting fast without even passing up the important disclaimers and regulations and even assigned the most convenient unit for me to unload to. I broke down trying to figure out how to get the latching mechanism to close and the woman working at the units ( I wish I could remember her name, but I didn’t make a mental note of it through the panic) was calm and helpful. She assisted me through it with enough time to get back to the truck check in on time. I will honestly continue to use this facility for all of my moving needs (which is absurdly often) thanks to the delightful and understanding staff.

When I first open my unit you made an error and my key didn’t work, your guises system had a glitch in auto pay stopped working and you charged me a late fee, I made a reservation to downsize from one unit to another and the call center put my name incorrectly and got the wrong storage unit and then when I had to move there was no available unit that I could use so I literally had to go to a different storage facility. There were so many issues with just the bookkeeping and being at the unit the alarms will go off all the time even though I checked in and it was so loud and so ridiculous and so many times that I would never go there again simply for that reason. I would say it was an overall horrible experience and not worth the money but they had 24 hour access which is why I originally wanted to use that facility. They were a bunch of sketchy characters there at night though so it really wasn’t that safe and people kept asking to get in or to use the restroom so I didn’t feel safe when I was there at night. The day I finally moved out and went to a different storage facility they were two tweakers outside screaming at each other and punching the windows and throwing their stuff all over the place and my toddler had to get rushed into the vehicle so that we could get out of there as quickly as possible because they were literally fighting in the parking lot and I couldn’t help but think well this is how it always goes here so what’s new?

Hosanna J | First ImpressionsThe people I interacted with were great. The hours were not as advertised. Online says 5am to 10. That's a joke. I couldn't get access to the building when I wanted. I would come before 8 on a weekend, locked. At 7 on a Sunday, already locked. The inside of the building was fine. The outside is a dump. People just leave stuff wherever and nobody picks up. Food and trash in the parking area constantly. The "free" area might as well be a dumpster. There were only a handful of parking spaces in front of the building. The U-box's were constantly in at least two if not more. I had two issues with my autopayment go through in the year I rented here. The first was annoying. The second was ridiculous, they couldn't even tell me why it was denied. And despite it being less than a week from the due date I had a $35 late charge (luckily waived by the great customer service) and denied access to my unit which had to be removed. Seems like there should have been some more courtesy warning and "failure to pay in X days will result in lock-out". The location was convenient and the staff nice, otherwise this would a 1-star.

The policy of not pro-rating after move out is also pretty bizarre. It's too bad that U-Haul is a monopoly without much competition. Matt was responsive and did a good job, but this is just a bad company.

I pray that other follow and that the storage or people don't maybe killing this year off of everybody not to say that I wouldn't buy a few hundred. Kristene P | First Impressionscalled up to rent a storage unit for a 5' wide habitat that I got from work as well as a 1500 sq foot home and we went through 3 units (Not one time did they check the doors for proper access for me) assured me that each one that the habitat that I got would " FIT JUST FINE" so I unloaded the stupid thing trusting them at their word that it would fit ... it did not I was less than impressed, and due to the problems with the rental unit I had to leave the Habitat in the back of one of the rental box trucks (of which I was assured that I would only be charged one day because of all the hassles) I got charged for the full time (not just one day) and they never bothered to cancel my storage unit that I obviously would NOT be using since I couldn't get anything through the doors ... NOT HAPPY with this location at all ... will not now and will never rent from this location again.

I rented a $19.95 truck, for a day only to find out it was for only 12 hours and the employee who rented it to me failed to tell me it had to be back by 8am the next morning and when I turned in the truck after I filled the gas tank which was not full to begin with, but the vehicle is parked on a slant so it appears the tank is full when it is not. Next week I will try and close my last storage unit with Uhaul and never use their services again.

I came in on a Sunday right at office closing (5pm) and my card wouldn’t let me get in. I went to the office and the girl was rude saying they’re closed and brushed me off. I said I have access until 10pm, even says so on my app. She just repeated “we’re closed” I went BSCK to the storage facility as 2 employees were walking away, I asked for assistance and they flat out ignored me. Turned around and looked, then kept walking away. Luckily another guy came. He spoke with me a moment, looked at my app to see the time I had access, and fixed it from his phone. No one else even tried or gave me the time of day.

As I had left my phone in the car and it was pouring rain I did not want to go retrieve it. I had no choice. It would be extremely nice if a FULL accounting of required information was listed in order to avoid confusion. Also, the 10x10 unit assigned to me already had a lock on it. I ended up with a 10x15 as that is what was available. I assume the charge will be for the assigned 10x10 unit as you were unable to provide the unit contracted for.

I went in around Early December and my container was locked and I couldn’t access the building-had to walk to the office three different times and the boy there was not helpful-rude and when he finally went to unlock my storage after I had to walk back a fourth time he then apologized to my male friend who was there to help me unload AND NOT TO ME who’s name is on the storage, I used my card to pay and HE SPOKE TO THE MALE FRIEND LIKE HE RENTED THE LOCKER. Apologized to HIM for wasting HIS time-and not to I who had to walk back and fourth and deal with this bulls$!t. 0/10 I didn’t have a pleasant experience any time I went to this facility. And after I paid my late fee, the very next day I got a letter that said you’d waive the fee. I am so upset, still, half a month later.

The service I received greatly depended on who I talked to (either on the phone or in person). I had used U-Haul Storage before in another city and had great experiences there, so I thought that it would be similar here, but I was mistaken. I realize that the staff were more than likely overwhelmed with a lot of customers, but a little bit of niceness would have helped a lot. The covid measures put into place just made it more awkward....where do you stand, and where do you move?

Jose S | Overall ExperienceI was not able to move in the day that I wanted to move in because my card did not work and then the next day I went to move in and they said they were closed at 8:00 and the gate closes at 10:00 and they said no that was wrong so I did not get to move in the second day the third day I did get to move in but I was told I owed them money and I was supposed to get a free month I don't know what happened I decided at that point I'm moving everything out because one it was on the second floor split level had to walk upstairs I am disabled cannot walk upstairs so I said forget it and moved out I am trying to get my money back for my month of insurance but I cannot figure out who to contact on that so I will be going to U-Haul tomorrow and asking them who to talk to.. just make sure you're not in a hurry because if you are it won't matter they are very short staffed and nobody knows what's going on in the buildings good luck.
Kim T | Online Move InI never would have thought I'd be crying out of frustration at a U-Haul until yesterday. I spent 3 hours here moving a 5x8 trailer load into a storage unit. This location is severely understaffed, most employees are not trained in all departments, and the technology is slow. I arrived and rented a 5x5' unit, which went smoothly for the most part. When we got most of our stuff down to the unit, we realized it was going to be too small. I went back to the office to upgrade to a larger size, had to wait about 45 min for a staff member who was knowledgable enough to help me. The "only employee who knows storage" (their words) was outside filling propane tanks and a line of other customers were assisted inside while I waited for her. Finally, another employee came and helped upgrade us into another unit. Great, ran back to the storage facility to help my partner move our stuff down the hall to that new unit. Only problem, the new unit was actually already taken by someone else. I went to the intercom system and asked why they sent me to an already occupied unit. Someone said they'd be down "in a minute" to help. Twenty minutes goes by, haven't seen anyone. I call back again and asked if they had meant this other unit that had the same numbers, just in a different order. They said yes and they'd be down "in a minute" to get me a new key. A man came and brought me my third key of the day and told me "if you need help, just use the intercom, since you know how to use it now". Except this time, the key didn't work. I hadn't waited for the other two keys to activate but now this key needed "5 to 10 minutes" to activate. At this point, 2 hours into being at U-Haul, you'd think a manager could override the system, just let me inside and get me to the correct unit? I've been waiting around all day, every time I asked for help someone was going to be "right there" or "in a minute". It was never that quick. My experience here was surprisingly poor. Some of the employees are nice but it doesn't make up for lack of training and staff. I believe that the employees mean well, but they do not have a great understanding of how to prioritize customers, or are too busy, I'm not sure. My issue could have been resolved in 5 minutes if the sole employee with storage knowledge came inside and helped me. I understand there were people waiting to get propane tanks filled, but my issue could have been resolved quickly with her help. Getting through a whole line of new customers, while I was waiting inside for help, does not make sense to me. I would prioritize fixing the issue with the customer that was here first. I would not be leaving this review if things had gone that way. No hard feelings, I think it's a difficult time for everyone, I am just disappointed in my experience here. Thank you for your time.

I believe the person that helped was Kaylen Andrews or something close to that. She about 5'6 with long blonde hair. She listened to all my concerns and made sure I was completely taken care of. This card issue created major difficulty because we had hired movers to help us. They were paid by the hour and had to wait for other movers at the facility to let us in. Luckily someone else was moving in so they would help us by using their key card. The staff said it would work in about 15 minutes, but it didn't. I used the intercom at 15 minutes and they said to give it more time. At 30 minutes I tried to call them again and it was not answered. Finally, after an hour I tried again and they answered and although my key card still didn't work they were able to set the doors so that they would open when we walked up to it. The staff was incredibly patient and helpful. It was insanely busy in the store and they handled the tech issues well.

The staff should monitor loading areas to ensure everyone is safe and room for all to load and unload. The staff at this Uhaul are nice in person, but do not follow up on verbal commitments. 1. We were verbally told one price, but charged $30 more for our unit. The manager, Matt, did nothing except offer to let us move out. 2. Upon closing one unit, the employee committed to emailing us a receipt and closing document. It didn't happen and we were charged for the next month. Another complaint is when a couple rents multiple units, an access card should be given to each. We were told this is not possible with your system. And,, finally, all fabric (clothing, furniture, rugs) stink as a result of being stored.
