The van smelled like it had been used to haul cattle. I spent more than a half hour trying to get the app to work sou could return it before giving in and dropping the van off and because it was 45 minutes past the return time I was charged the full rate. Then spent 50 minutes on hold trying to get a customer service rep. I will never use uhaul or recommended them ever again. Penske it's better to their customers and their equipment is always spotless. The ONLY reason I chose uhaul was because of the convenient location and the limited time I had to get there before closing .RHODA D.
Excellent staff. The equipment was great. My only recommendation is about the overall Uhaul company, not specifically Elm St. The wait times when you need to call are pretty outrageous. I know you encourage people to use the internet features but when people are moving, they may not have internet set up yet and they need to call by phone. The wait times to confirm the reservation, ask questions etc... were between a half hour and 50 minutes in my case. This is an area that needs to be addressed. The dolly in the back gets in the way. If you cut the tie and remove it you get charged a rental fee. It should not be it the truck bed unless you want to rent it. There was trash in the back of the truck from the prior renter, it obviously hadn't been checked before renting it out again. The attendant who assisted us when we picked up the truck was a bit nasty, she could stand to have better communication skills.Joseph D.

The tire blew within the first 13 miles of the drive and when I called for assistance, they put me on hold for 2 hours while I sat on the side of I-95 until the location closed. They never came to the phone and I had to go through a third party to get any help.SONNET M.

A couple of thoughts, if I may: (1). It may be a good idea to remind customers who are inclined to rent a 10' truck that the ten-footers do not have a pull-out loading ramp; (2) There really is a problem with using the "24/7 return after business hours" software. Despite trying desperately to follow carefully the instructions, both at the Waterville and previously at the Portland, ME, U-Haul franchise, I eventually had to resort to calling U-Haul "customer support," and after a wait of 25-30 minutes, to give up.Parker B.

When I arrived I was told the â€œcomputers went down yesterdayâ€ so they were unable to take my credit card. How is this a thing in 2021? I was told cash only. My only option was to drive around town, find an ATM, pay $3.50 ATM fee and drive back to pay with cash. In the meantime someone else arrived and I had to wait 20 minutes for the guy to deal with them. Not happy.Shane G.

I tried to do contactless pick up. When I got to the location, the wireless connection was bad~ as I could not get a signal because of the location. So, I had to go in and take care of it. Come to find out, if my wireless connection would have worked, the key placed in the box was for the wrong vehicle. The Service Rep (that was incredibly helpful), had to go through all 6 boxes on the outside of the building to find the correct Key for the vehicle that had been issued. Then~ it was a very rainy day here in Maine~ We got the truck loaded, only to find out there was a leak in the roof of the truck_top right corner near driver's side of the truck. Many items got pretty wet. That was a disappointment. I reported this when I dropped off the vehicle. The Service Rep (a different one than in the morning) was courteous and told me they were not aware of the leak and apologized.MaryBeth B.

Not so much for the next customer but I do have a complaint. I rented a 17 foot van/ truck on the 15th. I got the truck at noon and was told I had to have it back before close of shift that day. Leas than 8 hours away from my pick up time. If a rental is 24 hours than why was I screwed out of 16 hours and had to scramble to get the truck back before they closed so I wouldn't get charged for another 24 hour rental. Just kinda frustrating is all.Jason W.

I was pleased with this U-Haul office. I picked up my truck right after they opened at 7am. It was only a short wait to get loaded up (nothing more than usual). The check out, and return of the truck both took only a short time.Jordan T.

The person helping us with the drop off was awesome! Great customer service, nice guy, and made the process so much easier. The only unfortunate thing about the Elm St location is the incredibly small lot that makes it nearly impossible to fit multiple trucks and park your person vehicle. I also used the uhaul site to give my location a call during our move, but the number I used from the site from the location (207-873-6171) direct me to the uhaul call center instead of the place at elm st which was confusing. Other then that it was a great move! I definitely benefited from the upgrade to the 15 footer, the ramp was a lifesaver.Dakota M.

The only issue is I made a reservation to pick up a trailer in Winthrop, Me at 3 pm. I was there at 230. They were closed with no phone call. I then was sent to Waterville , that was great but the initial reservation was set up for me to drop off in Jay, Me. Since that wasn't an option I was charged for 2 days rental because of the extra travel. That part was a little bitter to take.MARCUS R.
My car almost fell off the trailer, becuase the strap holding my car in place, dislodged. Uhaul then charged me 194.00 for returning the trailer early, EVEN THOUGH the reason I returned it, was because my car was literally unsafe on THEIR trailer.
