My iPhone phone detected air-tag purposefully buried within the truck that was tracking my location, which I didn't realize until after I had returned the truck. I both called and returned to the Uhaul site to notify them. Using my phone we could hear the air tag ping but could not find it in the truck, and ultimately had to contact police to search the truck as it was determined that the tracking device was likely planted purposely. Overall I walked away uncomfortable, knowing that there is now someone out there who tracked my every movement in that U Haul truck, even more alarmed that U Haul staff were completely unaware until I notified them. I will say that the staff at the Ben White U Haul location in Austin were awesome. They took my complaint seriously from the start and took the time to search for the tracking device and even though we didn't find the air tag I felt like they went above and beyond to follow up with my complaint.Jason D.

I did my reservation online, and I removed the $10 dollars protection I thought wasn't necessary due to the fact of having full cover insurance. I was charged even thought the person who make me sign the contract say to my : you will pay $19 plus tax plus the miles you drive. Not this locations fault but got an email saying our ubox and reserved pickup truck would be ready at a different location. Went to that location and was told that our ubox was at Ben White location. Got to Ben White location and found our ubox but was told that they had no pickup trucks. So we had to go back to the other location to get the truck. Except that they had no record of our reservation for a pickup truck. Even though I showed the reservation (from my uhaul account receipts). When reserving the ubox I chose the option to rent a pickup truck to self deliver. Ended up getting a bigger truck (which wasn't the vehicle I reserved) because they had no pickup trucks available. We had to go back and forth between these two locations throughout the day (adding unnecessary mileage to the rental costs). It was very annoying but everyone we talked to was professional, just seemed to not know what was going on. The reservation system is just messed up or something. Was just extremely unorganized. This U-Haul did not have enough furniture pads when I have requested to have 36 pads, they told me the day of, so I open what was inside the back of the truck, it says it had 6 pads, but it only had three inside of it. When I got the truck, the truck was almost on E. So it was time consuming to make several stops. The truck doesn't feel right when it's driven, and the brakes take a while for it to stop. We went to pick up truck and the one assigned to me was not even there after searching the lot for 30 minutes, they assigned me a new one and that one was dirty with an empty tank of gas and we finally were assigned a third truck that was clean and full of gas but we received almost an hour into our paid time and we returned it an hour earlier and were not refunded for the hourly rate.Douglas A.
Whilst the truck itself was in good condition, there were some significant challenges in the process and extras: - mobile pick up was not working, and this was not communicated, resulting in an hour of waiting in line, which is challenging when you're on a restricted hire time - we got the truck and hour and a half after the reserved time - hired extra equipment via website, which is apparently not connected to the stores stock - this makes no sense. So we booked extra equipment like dollys etc which we then didn't get. This massively complicated our job from beginning to end - no follow-up from uhaul regarding refunds on equipment we paid for but didn't receive, and lost hours of booking due to uhauls mobile app not working. We booked online and the â€œlocationâ€ to pick up our truck can best be described as a crack house than a Uhaul (or any other business) location. An old man with no pants on answered the door of this Meth Den and invited me into one of the dirtiest environments I've ever stepped into. He then walked into a back bedroom to which their was a matress on the floor and topless female junkie passed out. The lady got up, got dressed and then proceeded to rant about a hit and run that she was involved in the night (more like hours) before. Her and her boyfriend were driving drunk and high when they hit another vehicle on I-35! By this point you can imaging they not only didn't have the rental truck but cost an hour of moving time by having to call a uhaul support to find a real business location. I will never use Uhaul again and if you're in the Austin area do not attempt to use the East Cesar Chavez Uhaul locationsâ€¦it's legitimately a crack house. Worst experience, year-to-date. I have never experienced such a poorly managed organization. I will be filing a formal complaint with the Better Business Bureau given the inadequate resolution from GM Tommy Mendez. Mr. Mendez, provided me with the worst customer service that I have ever encountered by a general manager. I was provided a 10' truck, reference #3935461, with a car pull. I experienced issues with the truck and called Road Side Assistance, reference #2488000 and worked with Jennifer. I spent over 6 hours, mainly spent waiting for arrival. After 6 hours +, as documented by Uhaul's notes, I grew frustrated and simply wanted to change my plans and return the vehicle. I was incorrectly charged the full amount of $377, plus an additional $147. When conversing with Jennifer, I was told that I was going to get reimbursed given my unique situation. I explained my experience to Tommy Mendez who experienced no sympathy, and was harsh with his responses. I was very surprised by Mr. Mendez's methodologies to address a customer's needs and concerns. Called Friday to access UBox. Was told the store needed 24-48 hours notice so they could have it ready, and that Sunday was the earliest I could get in it. Sunday comes, we get there 5 min after they open and there's a long line. Takes us 40 minutes to get through the line (only 2 people working). When it's our turn they say at first they can't find our UBox. They go looking for it for 10-15 minutes. When they find out they say it's all the way at the top and in the back so it'll be 40 min or so to get it (so what was the point of the 24-48 hour notice?) after 30-40 minutes they come back out and say they can't get it. Their fork lift guy will be in sometime today, but not sure when. Could we either come back later or another dayâ€¦ Meanwhile while our 1 guy is looking/trying to get our UBox only 1 guy is working the line, which is getting very long. He's sassy, and customers are getting impatient. He tells a customer that â€œit's backed up because we don't normally do uboxes on Sundays, but they're going to do one for these people (us)â€ as if we're getting special treatment and not just following the instructions UHaul gave us. This paired with the fact they said they couldn't actually get our UBox was extremely frustrating. We had also rented a truck and dolly with the intention of clearing out our UBox. The guy also tells us they don't have Dollys. I ask for the owners contact. Call him as we leave (keep in mind we've now been there almost 2 hours). He says he'll call me back. When he does he says give them 30 minutes and they'll have it done. He'll call me when it's ready. In the meantime, we go to Hone Depot and rent a dolly for $30. Then he calls me and says it's ready, so we head over. Wait in line again about 20 or so minutes this time. We get stuck with the sassy guy. He tells me we can't access our UBox that it's out of propane. I literally have to argue with him that that's not true bc the manager called us to tell us it was ready to access. He finally caves and says we can access it. Like I feel like he was just being a jerk to be a jerk bc we reported his sassy comment to his manager (and only the one he made about us, but all you have to do is stand in line for 5 minutes to hear the way he talks to and about other customers) We get a trick to clear itâ€¦ it has a dolly. The rest goes by without issue. Overall experience is WTF. Keep in mind this is after our UBox was delivered a week late with the Uhaul company unable to tell us a delivery date during that time period. They're the cheapest bc they're extremely disorganized. I used them to save some money, and I have regrets. Plus I'm literally the type of person who hates arguing. I never return food at a restaurant. The truck rental worked fine. The appliance-dolly rental didn't work fine. I'd reserved one, and you'd charged me for it, but when I arrived, you said you had none to give and that the reservation was only a request. Well, that's not what your reservation site implied. It treated the truck and dolly as equally reservable, and if both are requests, then you could deny the truck as well -- a completely unacceptable scenario. Long line to pick up. First he said our truck wouldn't work for the tow dolly after we confirmed with a rep on the phone that it would. I’m very disappointed with the UHaul representative behind the counter, Roy Amaya. He was rude, abrupt and did not seem to care about the customers he was assisting. He did not answer any of my questions clearly. What happened to providing excellent or great customer service, or better yet, treating people as humans or even with a hint of compassion. Not to mention, he had the audacity to charge me for the one month of storage even after I told him that my truck rental came with a one month FREE storage unit rental as a promo that UHaul is having that I agreed to upon reserving the truck. He said he will not honor the promo because their location is already at 93% capacity and that he will only honor it if their location is in boy at 70% capacity. The facility was ok, but the staff were honestly incompetent and rude. Jessica was rude to me a few times when I was checking in, and she got me set up at the wrong storage unit. That wasted about an hour of my movers time that they could have spent unloading my truck. And the older lady was not very helpful, either. I went over there to check out, and it looked like she was busy. So I waited for her to finish. I couldn't help but notice it was taking awhile for her to wrap up what I thought she was doing on the computer. Turns out, she was dorking around on her cell phone and was completely oblivious to the fact that a customer was waiting on her. Long-time storage customer, never late with payment. Rented trucks and trailers for move in, moving storage contents, and storage checkout. The alarm at the Ben White facility is deafening and incessant. Why can't this be disabled or another method of alert used? It is a problem for individuals with sound sensitivities. First I can from Ohio they out the wrong hitch onto my truck then they messed up my whole reservation got here for charged for locks twice bcuz my original storage space they didn't honor so I ended up with two small storage spaces which all of my things didn't fit in them then I was told that all of my reservations were the same for here and the drop off was for another part of Texas nobody knows about then was told I had to pay $250 not bcuz if some mistake I made but from the original person who completed the the paperwork did what they wanted and told us it would be changed by the time we arrived but I wasn't. So in short the hitch wrecked my truck, my storage space wasn't what I was given and had to pay for two separate locks because of it, then the drop off and storage was in the same place but when we got here Ohio didn't correct the mistake and so now I have to pay for something that wasn't my fault and the clerks inside the store were very rude and acted as if we robbed them of fees when I paid what was told to me and nobody told me about another Dee once I arrived I doesn't say in my bill that I have a balance due. I'm very upset and when I can move into my new place no I will not recommend this service to anyone I'm so disappointed 😞😞Lena A. | First Impressions

I drove directly to U-Haul from Greenville, SC, to meet movers at a particular time and was beyond stressed. There was a minor mishap with the online reservation for my storage unit but Caleb was AMAZING! He was really sensitive to my situation and was extremely kind, helpful, and accommodating. He really came through for me in this highly stressful situation. The facility was impeccably clean and carefully monitored, I felt very safe here. Pulled up to begin unloading items to place in storage and was told by an employee I am not allowed to park where I was. I explained we were taking items into our storage unit which was why I was parked up front by the door leading inside the building. He stated where I was parked was “their” parking and customers can’t park there. When I asked where we should move he stated he didn’t know but I can’t stay where I’m at. Another vehicle pulled up and parked close to the entrance to begin unloading to which the employee told them “you can’t park here”. We both asked again where we should park and the employee began to get frustrated only stating “I don’t know but not here”. We were not blocking the flow of traffic for other customers or other employees to move trailers, cars , trucks etc. Overall I was rather shocked by the employee’s statements and lack of help to know where we should park to unload.Mark P. | Online Move In

The elevator broke after my first trip to the second floor. The staff was difficult to reach, did not answer the phone or assistance button until a few tries. Somebody broke into my storage unit and threw my clothes/items all over the unit. Nothing was stolen, but it was certainly less than ideal. The only saving grace was Mandi, as she was super helpful and understanding through the whole process. She deserves a pay raise and promotion. Uhaul as a whole was not helpful with the process of reviewing what happened to my unit, but that wasn’t Mandi’s fault. She was handcuffed by a horrible policy.Logan F. | Overall Experience
