The staff is friendly and accommodating. The 17' truck I rented was clean, but the steering, alignment and suspension need to be addressed. I used it for in town move of home goods, but I would not recommend using it for a cross country move. The steering wheel has too much play in it. I was not able to provide this recommendation to the staff there when I dropped it off due to other scheduled appointments I had to maintain.MICHAEL P.

I rented a truck for 5 additional days. I was not told uhaul's definition of a day ends at 0700. I return rented trucks/trailers the day I unload, so I do not get uhaul on this one. Anyway, I was charged an extra day for returning after unloading the truck on the 5th day, but after 0700. Strange policy by uhaul, but it is done. These comments are uhaul policy, not regarding the W Mercury Hampton VA store which I consider well managed and responsible. The attendants were quick to get to the job and had great attitudes. They charged me for the Uhaul truck, but I already paid $125 for it The Day before when I booked it with helpers. They sent the receipt to the wrong email address. I called and corrected it, but they never sent the original receipt. When I complained that the helpers couldn't get paid because of this, they texted the helpers payment code to my phone, but never emailed the original receipt. I was sick and stressed out, and hate the thought that they would take advantage of my vulnerability. The following days (yesterday and today) I stayed in bed because of my health. Each time I try to go online my computer shows an error page. It appears that one should only use this Uhaul store if you are feeling in top shape and ready to fight; and if you are computer savvy and your computer is working. I used the truck 4hrs, drove approx 20 miles, put $10 gas and drove the 4 miles back with the window opened to avoid using the air conditioner and using more gas. Not only did I pay twice, but was also overcharged the second time. I am very very very disappointed. I started using Uhaul in 1976 in every state, town and city I ever lived in. The staff at the Coliseum location were exceptional, thanks Rhonda, after a tragic last minute reschedule of my reservation - which was made weeks in advance! I had a reservation set for the night before. The location was in a storage facility located in the most desolate and darkest areas ever - EXTRA STORAGE INC, GLOUCESTER,VA 23061. Picture 10pm in the middle of the rain (storming really), no lighting, and NO ONE at U-Haul was picking up the phone for a 24/7 reservation issue. I'm there in the dark trying to activate the 24/7 pick up on my phone with my kids in the car, and for 45 minutes we were on ULTRA HIGH alert only to find out my truck WAS NOT THERE. The person had extended their reservation and the truck was never dropped off - no one at U-Haul called to let me know the truck was not there and save me the 45 minute drive away from where I was going or to at least allow me to go to a safe place. I had to find a hotel and stay until they could find me a truck the next morning. Worst experience ever with the 24/7 Pick-Up process. If its not at a U-Haul location, bring your whole squad with you to ensure your safety because shady isn't even the word of how this place looks at night.FLORJOMAIRA M.

I was charged incorrectly. I went out to take my truck and the mileage and gas was incorrect. I told the attendant and the said they would fix it and email me the new invoice. Original gas was quoted to be at 7/8 full, it was a little less then a quarter tank. The original mileage it was at when I pulled up was 10045, I bought the truck back at 10156 I believe and was charged astronomically. We were promised pick up locally but had to travel 80 miles to get the truck. And we were never informed of this. I luckily called and found out the day before after waiting on hold for an hour. We were then "given" 60 extra miles on the rental to make up for it, but we did NOT receive them and had to pay mileage overage. And the transition was shot and scary on the truck. The 5x9 trailer was in excellent condition and extremely well built. The attendant hooked up the trailer and checked to make sure all the lights worked properly. The only minor complaint is the trailer was not swept out. There were a lot of grass clippings on the floor from the previous renter. Also, the interior dimensions of the trailer are a little under 5x9. I was moving some appliances whose nominal dimensions are 30â€ wide by 24â€ deep. Couldn't put in as many as I planned because the width of the trailer was just under 59â€. That small difference meant an extra trip.ROBERTGLENN V.

It took almost an hour in line to get someone to help me find my truck. Truck was dirty. They didn't give me any brochure saying odometer mileage or what gas gauge was on. I had to take to car wash to spray out the back. The truck shook, tires needed balanced. Inside cab was trash. At first my reservation was made with the ace hardware in Hampton and when I got there they didn't even have a truck and wouldn't help me find one so I cancelled it myself and found one at this location. I wasted two hours trying to get a uhaul after making a reservation. Complete waste of my time and I had movers waiting that left so I had to load alone! It took me 8 hours. I am completely unsatisfied as I use uhaul a lot for my rental properties and am renting a 20 foot on June 30. I would like a full refund and my truck June 30 should be free as well due to all of my troubles!ELIZABETHMARIE D.

Please double check the vehicle stats before renting to next customer as it needed an oil change (0% oil life) and the tire pressure was different on all four tires (53, 60, 77 and 78). I added air in the front tires, but could only go to 70 psi (max at pump filling station) and by end of day, they had dropped to 67.VIBEKIRSTEN B.

When a truck is late for dropnoff let the next customer using it. I was suppose to get a 26 foot truck but there wasn't any because other customers didn't follow rules. Since we had to get a smaller truck I had to make numerous trips which we didn't plan. It was a huge inconvenience to me and my family. The ladies working the inside were slow and talked to each other more then the customers. From the time I entered the store until getting in the truck was 52 minutes. I’d rented at this facility for 2 years in a row (during the summer). When COVID hit and students were forced to leave campus I again went to this facility. We live in California so I was forced to rent the unit for 14 consecutive months because Hampton did not reopen their campus. Month after month I asked the staff if there were any discounts being offered and was always told no. We wound up going to another storage unit place because the halls for the storage facility were too small to where we coiling maneuver things into the unit. The doors for the 8x10 units are too small, large furniture would be difficult to fit in. The entrance into the units are fairly hidden so we had to ask where the entrance was. The difficulty is in the design --- narrow labyrinthine hallways, low ceilings, limited access points, lack of carts, lack of elevators or lifts to the split-level units -- which made this facility very unwelcoming. My only issue is that when the doors were changed, the new keys for the lock weren't mailed right away. I waited almost a year and then had to send a friend who lives locally to pick them up for me. The lack of communication regarding the keys was not what should have happened. Every time I called, someone who tell me that the keys haven't been mailed because they were waiting on people's updated addresses so all the keys could be mailed at once.
