Arriving at U-Haul at 4411 Durham Chapel Hill Blvd, Durham, NC 27707 I was meet by an elderly white, gray-bearded male who was in the least rude and his overall appearance was unkempt. He "attempted " to chastise me for where I was parked but quickly lost that argument. I was pulling my personal trailer which made it too long to park in the single-car parking area lot. which forced me to park in the area he said was reserved for U-Haul trucks which was less than 25% full. I suppose the most distressing issue about my encounter was he did have a mask around his neck and over his ears, but not covering his mouth or nose.CARL H.
I checked in on line, which is supposed to make everything go quickly, but I still spent 5-10 minutes at the counter while the agent there clicked away on his computer, asked me things I'd already answered in the on-line checking, and swiped my card, again despite having already provided that. It takes far less time to pick up rental car than a rental trailer. Makes no sense.Stephen D.

When I rented the truck, the staff was extremely professional and helpful and had an outstanding experience. The after-hours return process was the complete opposite. It was easy to return the truck but the online process was horrible. It wanted to determine my location on my phone and I had turned on the ability for the app to read my location, but it wouldn't accept it and I couldn't go any further in the return process online. I tried for over 20 minutes and called the customer support line and waited for over 30 minutes before I had to hang up. Due to not being able to finish the process online (the app wouldn't let me), I was charged a $20 service fee. On my bill that came the next day, I was charged fo r3 gallons of gas because they read that the gas gauge had dropped from 3/8 to 1/4 of a tank. I drove the truck SIX miles total. I guess the truck gets 2 mpg. Loved the rental process, hated the return process. In the end I would recommend this site as the employees were great, but don't use the after hours return process... and no it was't because I couldn't figure out the technology.STEVEN JAY S.

The truck I rented was in perfect working condition. This was probably the best truck rental experience I've ever had. Can't think of anything to improve. When a customer rents a vehicle you guys shouldn't call everyday to check on it and when calling a voicemail should be left. I planned on renting a van for 7 days and a sells rep started calling my phone after day 1 so on day 2 made me feel pressured to return it or something was going to happen to my personal car that was parked on uhaul. Sales rep told me verbatim â€œI'm just checking on my van! Make it make sinceâ€CARL M.

This location was great and the staff was quick and on the ball. However, I had a terrible experience experience with Uhaul overall. While I would recommend the 4411 Durham chapel hill blvd uhaul facility for its team, I would never recommend uhaul community partners because I believe Uhaul is unable to manage those relationships effectively. The community partner I initially went to had no idea I had a reservation on a truck and no training or ability to figure a solution. The fault here ultimately lies with uhaul for offering a service though a broken channel. I had to spend hours dealing with uhaul on a day I had to move.WILLIAM B.

Very disappointed that you're charging me $9 including gas that I am sure I return as it was when I picked it up I don't agree with paying the extra dollar for Environmental. I used exactly 2 gallons and I put 2.2 gallons in your tank again unfortunately you overcharged me for gas. The 1st trailer's right rear lights did not work. The 2nd trailer worked great however I noticed when I was part way through my move that both of the safety chains had several links that were ground down beyond what would be considered safe. These thin links were rusted which means they had been unsafe for a while. Upon returning the trailer I pointed this out to the employee who thanked me and said he'd get them replaced. I point out these safety issues because they could be of concern to other renters. However the service was good and after they fix these safety issues I'd definitely recommend this location.Clyde M.

STOP CUSTOMER RIPOFFS. Although I have used UHAUL successfully in the past for transporting our Girl Scout Cookies, this latest rental was a disaster. UHaul ripped us off on two of our four rentals this year, costing us $14 for non-ordered SafeMove on one of the rentals (Contract 22651269), and latest ripoff on the fourth rental (Contract 23073013) of $14.16 for mileage and $11.28 for gas. Appeals of these errors got nowhere.CHARLES R.

Originally attempted to do mobile check-in to get truck myself without needing to enter store to better social distance due to pandemic. Unfortunately, the lock password given as part of the mobile check-in process did not work, so I was not able to actually unlock the truck. This resulted in me having to go into the store and get a different truck assigned to me.Daniel S.

Is there any way for customers to get a discount on the current rental and/or future rentals if you return the equipment early? When the moving van and movers we hired arrived at the facility, there was no one there to explain that they had lost power and that the facility was closed. We talked to duke power employees who were fixing the broken transponder and they let us know what had happened. I had to pay an additional $600.00 for the movers to then take my belongings to their Raleigh storage facility to hold until I could find another storage facility. When I called for a refund the next day, no one apologized. I was told, "i had booked the facility for 11-20, if I had just moved in then, this wouldn't have happened." Called ahead to try and update my reservation to a first floor reservation. Was unable to do it over the phone and had problems initially with the first person I spoke to and gave up on getting a first floor storage. Then TraShawn Chambers got involved and had the situation resolved in no time. Very grateful for his assistance and the assistance of the other employee at the time. He also helped and explained how the facility security worked after we triggered the alarm accidentally. Facility condition was clean and move in was quick and easy. It took two months for them to process my move out. In that two months, I was hassled with mail, emails, and phone calls regarding rent that I wasn’t responsible for and statements regarding lien on my property (which had been moved out before my one free month was even up). Uhaul support told me they’d contacted the manager three times on my behalf but the issue was not resolved until I got a phone call from a representative asking me when I was going to pay the back rent and fees. The instructions to access the building worked perfectly, but the doors didn’t work. Additionally, there was still a lock on my unit when I arrived at at 7:50pm. This is 10 minutes before they close. When I went to the front, they asked me if I had ever been there before. I said no I reserved online. I can only imagine they’re supposed to keep track of those with online move-ins to unlock units before tenants arrive. I was told by the employee, “Word of advice, don’t arrive 10 minutes before we close.” He went and unlocked the lock I said Thank you and he said nothing in return. Additionally, the climate in that side was reading 88 which is outside the range they promise for climate controlled storage. It’s supposed to be maintained from 75-85 degrees. Finally, they promise you a free lock in the unit. There was no lock provided. Online process was easy, but this facility is a disaster. The gentleman who helped us check in ("Y" Caldwell) was extremely helpful and positive and polite. The woman who reserved the storage rental over the phone for me reserved one that was half the size of what we needed, and you can imagine our dismay after traveling 5 states! "Y" was very quick to assure us that he would take care of it and fix the situation. He was compassionate to our frustration over the situation and understanding in our apologies that our upset was not directed at him. He worked diligently to find us 2 storage units that were relatively close to each other, took his time to walk us through how to get there, including highlighting a map and providing us with it AND taking us personally there. He took the time to explain that the codes take 24 hours to upload before they stop setting off the alarm, how to enter the codes, the best doors to unload and come through, and what the best locks were for us to get. As we were in the midst of unloading the truck with helpers and movers and figuring out what was going into each unit, "Y" took the time to walk over to us to let us know his shift was ending and to see how we were doing and if there was anything we needed or anything further he could do for us. I asked a few questions about returning the truck while we were still there and their hours and he took the time to not only answer those questions but to just chat and laugh a bit. When I asked about if we needed to extend our storage a bit, he assured me that I could just call him and he would handle it for me. He truly is an exemplary employee who is not only focused on the customer's needs, but clearly on the entire customer experience. He exhibited excellence and, in my humble opinion, deserves a promotion and a raise. Not the best set up in terms of getting things into storage units that are down winding hallways. As there was only one way in or out, it was difficult if multiple people were there at one time moving. I had to wait about 3 minutes for other people to move out of the way to be able to get my stuff in. I needed a small storage unit and a van to move my son out of an apartment until he knows where he's going next. Jarron was the general manager, Jeremiah helped me, and there were at least one or two other people working. They were all incredibly professional and courteous, and incredibly aware of how stressed people are now, because of covid-19. I overheard several phone calls and they were always polite and friendly with those customers, and with the in-person customers they were as well, and offered all the protections (distancing, hand sanitizer, etc) to keep everyone safe. But beyond that, they worked REALLY WELL together as a team. It was obvious that they liked and respected each other, communicated well, and were primarily concerned with making sure the customers got what they wanted.
