Our biggest challenge was Uhaul not guaranteeing a vehicle for the day we needed it. With a major, cross province move, the uncertainty created a lot of anxiety, so we confirmed with a competitor who could guarantee a truck. Only problem was it could not be one-way. When Uhaul confirmed availability two days before the move, we decided to go with Uhaul because of the one-way rental, but we had to spend nearly two hours on the phone as Uhaul Had now arbitrarily changed the rate, adding nearly $600 to the cost. So while in the end, the truck did what we needed it to do, it was not without a great deal of difficulty and frustration.TIMOTHY H.

When I moved into my storage unit the rental agent was unable to pull up my reservation despite the fact that he was reading the reservation number off an email from uhaul on my phone. Only solution was to rent me a bigger unit than I reserved and I had to pay the extra monthly fees for it. Also they made me buy a lock from them simply because they didn't like the one I had and said I couldn't use it on their locker. A couple of weeks into the rental I then got an email informing me that my monthly fees would be going up an additional $10 per month. To top it all off they don't list a phone number for the actual Kelowna location anywhere on their website so if you want to talk to someone at the office you literally have to drive all the way down there and do it in person. Although we had booked with your company near a month in advance. At 5:30pm the day before pick up, I recieved a notice from your company saying that despite booking well ahead, we would recieve the wrong vehicle, in the wrong town, 2 hours away from our selves. All locations close at 7pm around my area, I spent the next 2 hours in automated hold loops trying to fix your mistake. The only person of whom was any help was the kind elderly man at the wrong location in a small village 2 hours away. Aside from that one individual the entire experiance of dealing with Uhaul was underwhelming in the least and near criminal at the worst. Though the location is great, the truck was clean, and the people working at the location are great, let me give you my whole hearted feedback: I have never seen a company try to push off the work load onto an app/web interface and force the client to do everything. Of course, the app/web started misbehaving for me, and I had to keep trying and trying and trying to get the pictures to upload, but they wouldn't. You are now forcing people to be technologically advanced and have the phone to do the work and you're taking the workload off of any of your workers. Maybe that is so you don't have to hire as many people, but let me tell you as a technologically adept individual, I resented the fact that I was having to do the work YOUR company should be doing, and I strongly recommend that you abort this client-does-the-work methodology and get back to servicing the clients. I will avoid renting from you in the future to avoid that frustration again. I just want to pick up and go, and then drop off and leave.REES M.

The only staff member needed to leave the front desk and did not return for almost 45 minutes. No one else was in the front office, people were just standing there for 45 minutes not even seeing anyone working in the front... Just a really bizarre situation. When the sign posted says new staff please be nice and it has dust on it, it shows that the management of this location must be pretty bad and unacceptable to the people working there... Renting a truck by walking into a location and talking to a person used to be a very quick and simple procedure. Usually driving away in a truck in under 10 minutes. Now with this new mobile system it's slower. Whether it's pages that won't load or buttons that don't work it's generally a time waster. This last time I had to get a staff member inside to do the whole thing on the computer for me. And he was very fast. I'm sure that U-haul corporate has spent a lot of money on this new online option for checkout. Not a great product considering everything is done on phones now. Please try harder.DAVID O.

Instructions on contactless pick up. We picked up the uhaul on Sunday morning and it took us a half hour. The instructions to get the key were totally incorrect. I waited on hold for 15 minutes then we found the lock access at the front door not in the truck like it stated. I never did end up getting through to anyone on the phone. I rent lots of trucks and on this Thurs past some head office rep cancelled my booking without my knowing or permission! This could have been disastrous!! I was stressed but we found a truck after un-cancelling my reservation I made a month to the date! The truck I got was old and am worried lots that this location gets the bare min on trucks to rent! I am grossly dissatisfied with my entire experience at UHaul. The clerk serving me treated me like I was a moron. At first, he told me there were no cargo vans available despite having given him my name and let him know that I booked online. Then he did not give me any instructions on how to find the van. I thought the van parked out front was the van I rented but the key didn't work. When I went inside to ask, he continued to be condescending toward me -- he and another snickering as I exited the shop. Then a helpful clerk (didn't catch his name, he was black) came out after to me to explain that there is a number on the keychain that corresponds to a number on the vehicle - this was not explained to me by the first clerk. The van was dirty inside and out when I picked it up, yet I was charged a cleaning fee. I did not contribute at all to any dirt in or on the van. Further, the clerk serving me did not tell me where the key return was so when I returned it that night, it took me awhile to find it. 1) Staff put an extra lock in my storage unit even when the monthly rent was being withdrawn from my credit card every month 2) The excuse was that I did not have a proper lock in my unit, although the lock we used was a uHaul branded and recommended lock 3) When I complained about this I was informed that they had left a telephone message advising me to change the lock to a round style lock to get in line with security guidelines 4) When we rented the unit those locks were out of stock and on the recommendation of the staff at the time we used an alternative uHaul lock 5) I was unable to change the lock even if I wanted to because I was in Calgary at the time of the message and I would not have spent $550 for a trip to Kelowna just to change the lock. 6) I had a very poor experience with your staff this time not only because of this, but because uHaul had messed up my trailer reservation for Monday, September 27 and given me notice just a day before that my trailer was a 4X8 instead of the 5X8 I had reserved in August. I will avoid using Uhual even again. Worst company I've ever dealt with. To clarify, staff were friendly and tried to help within their limited means. I was rented a vehicle storage stall that wasn't even available as it was covered in construction debris. I walked around and around trying to find my spot, not a single person available to help me. Finally another customer helped me out. I did finally find a staff member to help me but he was reluctant to do so (but still friendly once we started walking and talking). Got my stall switched to one that was actually available. Then I needed to refund a storage lock I had just purchased as it wasn't required. Not sure why I wasn't told that when I was purchasing it. The same staff member tried to refund the lock but did not have the authority to do so. Asked manager to come and help but manager refused to do so. Told staff to have me leave the lock and it would get refunded - it never did. I called the call centre numerous times. They tried to help and emailed Uhual asking Uhaul to call me. Booked the storage online 2 weeks in advance. Showed up at the facility at 6:45pm with my load of belongings. I was informed that Uhaul in Canada doesn’t accept the online bookings. It was confirmed, so what is that all about? Not good. Thankfully, there was a space available. However! I was told I couldn’t unload because they were closing in 15 mins, although it’s secure with a code etc. There I am with a rented trailer that had to be back that night, my hired help and a storage space I couldn’t access. We took our boat out of storage in June. We waited in line to let the staff know and were told “the billing system is down” but assured our account would be closed. We were charged for storage again in July. We went in and spoke to a “manager” who apologized and told us it would be rectified that day. We were charged again in August. Again, we went in and met a different manager who apologized, told us there was a lot of staff turnover but assured us we would receive a refund that day. We were charged again in September. We went into the location yesterday and met with Cale - he handled the situation on the spot, provided us with receipts for the refund of the overcharged amounts. The facility is lovely. Everything is brand new and has plenty of space. A complaint I have is that every time I used the bathroom, it was always dirty with garbage overflow, dirty floors and toilet & the sink always had gross stuff in it. Also only having 1 bathroom for a facility that size is ludicrous!! At the very least there should be a washroom on every floor. The times I’d gone to my unit there was a young woman pushing a cleaning cart, yet I seen her spending more time texting and talking on her phone then pushing a broom. Regarding access to the facility, it should be a 24 hour availability. There’s already security in place so why not have 24 hour accessibility. However I’ve had interactions with the manager who is extremely nice and accommodating. Access hours are unreasonable. Elavator in bad need of programming, doesnt stay open long enough. And is not set properly Level on second floor. I would think Hydrolic leak which is not properly fixed. Alarm's are not programmed properly. ( I go and open my locker, Close it and open again and Alarm goes off. Not Very Good at all. Alarms Go off all the time making it redudant, and useless. Nobody cares about alarms. They should be turned on only at night-time and a Security Officer should come not staff. Air Conditioning was not on at the srcond level making it unbearable this last week. And some of my antique Collection was littered with debris from maintenece cutting holes in the ceilling from leakage repairs. I have photo's to prove. The manager was very helpfull though. Lengthy line up due to only one staff member "present" at the desks, entry drive in door for loading was inoperable due to circumstances - which is fine - however this was not explained while at the desk - had to find alternate route on my own which ate up quite a bit of time. On day two of move in the elevator was down - which again is fine - however there is only one set of stairs that lead to the upstairs...??? No secondary elevator?? No second set of stairs? No estimate on when the repairs were going to be performed or completed. Furthermore, lots of individuals disregarding face masks - no staff to enforce mandatory mask guidelines. Lastly, they've so far charged me for my pre-authorized amount for my van rental, however, I used significantly less kilometers than I had estimated. They didn't walk us through how to sign in and sign out. There's no instructions or map. It took us 30 minutes to figure out how to get in, and another 30 mins to find the unit. Should put a floor layout map on each level.
