I would have liked it if someone had talked to me about what it is like to drive a truck. Telling me that I will use the side mirrors as there is no rearview mirror would have been nice. A bit of coaching and checking in with me would have been helpful.

The gas gauge was not accurate to the corresponding sheet after I picked up the truck in Philadelphia. Upon return info to Portland, I filled up the tank to where it was in fact when I picked it up in Philadelphia, and yet Portland said I still owed $13.00. I had not used around 80 miles that I was allotted, so I feel Portland sho have just washed out the difference and called it even. I pleaded my case at Portland but to no avail! Next time I look to rent a truck, I will choose another company. I bet I get NO RESPONSE to these comments! Mike Moran

I called before the pickup date to arrange to change my reservation from a Tow Dolly to an Auto Transport Trailer. I got there, and it seems that the change was not in the system. The local team was able to make the change and supply the trailer, but it was frustrating to find that the reservation was wrong after I called in and spoke to two people about it.

We made a reservation about 3 weeks in advanced which was confirmed. No truck was available on the pickup day and time. Then a truck was found...but it was locked, they couldn't find the key, and then they discovered that the truck's battery was flat. The staff was very apologetic but we ended up waiting for over an hour on the day we were moving out of state. It was very frustrating and filled us with worry on a very difficult day. Again, I'd like to emphasize that the staff was very apologetic and tried their best. We rented from this location two times in the month before and both times previously everything was perfect.

This is the second time in a month that I've used Uhaul @ Marginal Way in Portland. Once again everyone was pleasant and helpful. No problems at all and they even pointed out the van I would use (out of a dozen or so) and the drop off went great! Thanks again and I'll be back on the 10th for my big move!

The uhaul rep I had was extremely pleasant and friendly. I have used this location for my needs several times and have experienced long waits. This time was not a very busy day. However the friendly demeanor of this particular representative was great.

Providing more space when returning a Uhaul truck would help. But what I'm particularly impressed with was the respect and helpfulness of the staff. From the person at the counter to the employees moving trucks around in the yard, they were amazing.

Let the customer know they are changing the truck so that they don’t get billed twice. Have workers that are polite enough to close the truck door prior to saying it’s ready so you don’t drive down the highway with the door open with blankets flying out. Also help customer with travel hitch. Would have appreciated that.

The pick-up truck I had reserved and needed was not available. I had NO choice but to use a van but the item would NOT fit in the van. I have to make 2nd. trip on another date to get the last item. The worst service experience I've ever had. Understaffed location overcharged my mileage and I spent over an hour trying to reach their customer service call center to resolve - they then issued a partial credit but still overcharged me for 40 miles. My experience has led me to hate UHaul and I vow to never use them again.

Line was extremely long and poorly managed. When I picked up my truck and brought it to my home to start loading it, it was filled with someone else’s things. I had to go all the way back and wait in another poorly managed line before I was able to get a truck that was actually clean and empty. I have rented from Uhaul many times, but after this experience I will never rent from you again.

We had a terrible experience with the Portland Maine UHaul service at the Marginal Way location on June 30, 2019. From the safety of the truck rented to the non-existent roadside assistance to their customer service - it was awful. Here's what happened:  We reserved a 10' truck online for pickup at the Portland Maine Marginal Way UHaul location and followed the directions to do an online checkin when we arrived.  The online checkin didn't work.  We were told to go wait in line for help.  The line was long and it took more than 30 minutes to get to the counter. The first truck they identified for us wasn't available, so they assigned us a second truck and had us sign the contract that said the gas tank was 3/4th full.  That truck turned out to be not available.  So they got another truck for us to use, one that was reserved for that night and told us to be back in 4 hours to return it. We agreed. So they gave us an updated contract that said the tank was nearly full.  That truck wasn't available, so they gave us yet another truck with the gas tank around 3/4 full. The contract wasn't updated.  You'll see how the gas tank situation fits in later.  Total time at the UHaul location before getting the final truck was nearly 1 1/2 hours. My husband drove the truck with my 25 year old son, since the two of them would work together to lift the heavy objects we were picking up.  Once they were on the highway, they noticed the right rear view mirror was flopping in the wind and my husband didn't have the rear view visibility he needed.   So my son held onto the outside mirror as best as he could as they drove so that my husband would be able to see cars behind him on that side.  Nonetheless, they nearly got into multiple accidents as a result of my husband trying to change lanes and my son not being able to hold on to the mirror or not being able to fully angle it for proper viewing. Once the items were delivered, my husband couldn't find anyone to drive in the passenger seat for the ride back and knew it would be too treacherous to make the drive alone to return the truck.  So he called UHaul's roadside assistance number.  The recording said service access was faster if you use the online UHaul.com/help link, so he did that, but the online help site wouldn't work because the "your location" feature to identify where you're at is a required field on the form that doesn't work.  So he called the roadside assistance number again and was placed on hold for over 30 minutes with no one picking up.  So he hung up and called the UHaul number again and chose to speak to someone who could help him.  That person said she'd connect him to roadside assistance, and he was placed on hold for over 45 minutes waiting for roadside assistance to pick up.   In the meantime, I was at the UHaul location waiting to pick up my husband after he returned the truck to that location.  Seeing that my husband had still not arrived, I contacted him.  My husband

Your people work hard. However, your support of them is shamefully poor. Awful/ third world/ heinous. They have to use their phones to do their jobs because the computer systems don’t function. That is absurd. I used your web site as well, and it isn’t good. I think I understand your business model of being the low cost supplier and located everywhere, but your computer software incapability is well beyond any business strategy. Happy to discuss.

The self check-in instructions said to skip the line but the counter attendant made me wait in line during a long transaction. It would have taken her less than five seconds to just hand me the key and it ate into my rental time.

There was a bit of debris in the trailer when we picked it up, including furniture tacks, broken pottery shards. This was similar to the truck we previously rented where there were nails and screws inside the truck. Maybe just make sure that the customer is sweeping out the truck. As a customer, I don't feel the need to sweep out debris left by the previous user unless it somehow puts the items I am transporting at risk.

It took three tries before I could actually get my hitch installed. The first time I had to change the date and time due to an injury. The second time I was basically stood up. I had made an appointment and apparently the manager who does the installing of the hitch...doesn't work on the day that I had the appointment. The only way to get ahold of anybody it's through the call center. Clearly, nobody checks the schedule. He said he would follow up with me when all of the parts store in because he said they weren't even all in. Which I now know is false. When I called to reschedule for the third time the woman said they don't book anything without all of the parts being in. When I was finally able to confirm the third appointment and take in my car they said they would call when it was finished. Nobody ever called so God only knows how long we were waiting extra. The follow-up and follow-through was lacking unless I demanded it. Bill in the front office with great, very nice, otherwise the customer service was severely lacking.

First of all, we can work on accurate milage documentation and charges. I was overcharged by 1000 miles, 350 dollars later. A small mistake that made a big difference. After trying to call to have it corrected, I was on hold for 35-45 minutes just to have a complaint filed, nothing was even resolved. very frustrating.

Portland, upon physical visit, did nothing more than tell me they could not help and referred me to go to the Brunswick location instead (which i had to visit 3 times to get results). The only positive part was the driver who delivered the Ubox. Val stayed in comminication with me and delivered/picked up with professionalism.

I have one complaint. I was told to take photos of any area that looked dinged. I did that and we left. 5 minutes later a link showed up on my cell. We pulled over and I began to retake the photos I already had taken. Then the link times out. It would have been so much easier if I were told there was a link and to wait for it to download photos.

When renting a TRUCK ... It should include a step stool to climb up to the seat. Other than the very hard roll down windows and the gas guzzling tank.. It rode good. Thats it. Good day.

My drop-off process was very quick—just a few minutes outside, and the staff member was courteous. I received an email receipt within an hour with no extra charges. One thing I would change—I received a text message with a change in drop-off location the day prior (for a cross-country move). This was confusing and I couldn’t get through to anyone with the office numbers I tried. We stopped by the updated location but were informed they didn’t have enough room for both a truck and auto transport. So we drove to the original drop-off location (this one), where there were no issues. I’m not sure why I got a change in location, but it was inconvenient.

Pretty old truck. No USB port that I could find for my cell phone? Re the moving experience generally, I used www.MovingHelp.com and it was not a good experience. The movers were great, but the communication with Moving Help was awful. They were only responsive via the web or email. No phone. They listed two companies as my moving help, JR movers and Moving Forward to New Beginnings. JR Movers were great, but Moving Forward to New Beginnings is a Canadian company with no connection to Uhaul, Moving Help, or JR Movers. Despite repeated complaints about the issue ... Moving Forward to New Beginnings is still present on my Uhaul account page and my Moving Help page.

Didn't seem to be enough staff as it was busy. Truck was not vacuumed out nor was the back swept. Mileage and fuel level were incorrect on the contract. I received three invoices via e mail each with a different total and each with the incorrect mileage. when returning the truck, I was told I took the wrong one. When in reality, I took the truck I was given the key to.

This was my first time using the mobile app for a rental. When I got to the facility, the drop off spot was full so I double parked on the street and went in to ask where I should park the truck. The clerk said to just leave it there and leave the keys in it., which is different from what the app advised. During the day when we were moving, U-Haul changed the location where we were supposed to drop off the truck. I did not notice the location change until after I dropped off the truck at the original location. When trying to check in with the app, it allowed me to try and drop off the truck and asked for my location to make sure I was returning to the right location, but it never said I was at the wrong location. It just looped back to the check-in again, so I was unsure if it was checked in or not. After I left I contacted U-Haul customer service to see what they show. They showed it was not checked in. The customer service rep attempted to get through to the new drop off location to see what they wanted to do (after a 10 minute wait for a rep), but they did not answer. She attempted again, but we were then cut-off. I then noticed a local U-Haul number on the text changing the location and contacted them. They answered right away and were very helpful in resolving everything. The personnel I talked to were very helpful, but I will not use the mobile pick-up, check-in again..

I went through the process of checking in online before I went to pick up my truck and yet I ended up having to wait in line for 40 mins to get help. Then I was told to go find my own truck out in the lot and along the street. After 25 mins of waking the lot and the street unable to find it as I had no idea what I was looking for because no one told me how to find it, I went back inside and waited to find someone that could help me find it. I reserved the truck for 9:30am and it was 10:30am before I left with my truck. It delayed my whole day and the people I had lined up to help me move. Poor customer service and I will not be renting from there again.

I reserved a storage container which was not saved when I returned a day later. I physically checked the unit and was still empty, told them I would like to have it and was refused. Therefore I had to rent a larger one at $50 more. I have always done business with UHaul when moving. As a business person myself, my customers are always right and I always deliver what I promise, even if I have to eat the cost. Worst experience I have ever had with UHaul, when I finish with my unit in August, will not be back.

Keep more staff on to insure that customers are helped in a timely manner. I called the store in concern of being charged an extra $62 for a fill up fee when I returned the truck with the same amount of gas as I picked it up with, and was put on a 20 minute hold. I have emailed about the issue and gotten no response.

At drop off I was told I didn't have an appointment, but I had a confirmation e-mail! The gentleman then found that the call center put my appointment in the stores "system" for a different day that the day they "scheduled" me for. Thankfully the store was able to squeeze it into their already busy day. I would say yes I got great customer service, and you guys made my 82yo. Dad's Birthday/Fathers day present just awesome! One of the most poorly run service establishments I've ever experienced. It was the second time I've visited and both times were equally disappointing; I will do everything I can to avoid it in the future. It took about 10 minutes for one clerk to set up a customer with a vehicle. Only two clerks were working and complained of being "understaffed" (this happened on both of my visits, with the first visit even including a refusal of service because the scheduled employee called out sick). The line was out the door; by the time I got my vehicle, I was over 30 minutes behind schedule. There isn't a shred of management operations at this facility.

You should tell people that you have an app that allows them to pick up equipment VERY QUICKLY if they do it beforehand. I waited for 40 minutes on Saturday morning to get the truck. There was a line 15 customers deep and 1.5 clerks working. You need to push the app more verbally on the phone and in person when customers are making their reservations. I had no idea one existed.

We sat waiting for 30 minutes to get the trailer to hook up to the truck. We went inside 3 times to find out where the gentleman was, staff had no clue. I have a broken ankle and am unable to chase staff down. We had a time crunch and spending 30 minutes looking for an employee is ridiculous! Very disappointed in this location.

The appliance dolly was in rough shape. The locking rings on the strap were rusted and the strap was very stiff. We received no help in loading our vehicle onto the auto transport trailer. After we bottomed out, we were told most people use wood to lift the ramps so that doesn’t happen. It would have been really nice to know that in advance. We had to walk around tha parking lot looking for our truck, as it wasn’t in the position we were told it was.

This U-Haul locations doesn't have the amenties that most others I've seen. Also, the staff is either over-worked or just disinterested. Each time I had to visit for support I waited a long time.

Have used uhaul off and on for years. This will be the last time. There is a saying, if you get good service, you tell a few people, if the service is bad you tell at least 25 people.

Worst customer service I've encountered almost anywhere. Horrible attitudes and just unwilling to help. Dont dare go here near the end of the day as employees scatter to avoid any sort of concerns.
