The moving company that was referred by Uhaul was horrible. The movers were clearly unprepared to do anything. They showed up with no tools and were clearly inexperienced at moving home goods. The way they packed the uboxes was horrible! Had I been in a situation where I could reschedule movers, I would have not used that company. The key wasn't where it was supposed to be and the associate couldn't find it. The manager was giving an interview so I guess they couldn't help. It took an extra 15-20 min of my rental time to find the key which caused me to be late for the event and I was charged for items I never used like the furniture pads!Toni S.

We were very frustrated that the GM gave away out truck reservation because we arrived late. There is nothing within the agreement that states if you arrive 22 min late that you risk losing your vehicle reservation. Upon arrival, we had to wait in line for 7 minutes so we were nearly 30 min past the reservation start time by the time we got to the check-in counter. We were told policy is that if you arrive an hour late, Uhaul will cancel your reservation. They said if we had called to notify them we were late, they wouldn't have given away our 10' truck. That made no sense to us because we had a two-hour reservation on the truck, and the GM didn't attempt to call us to find out how close we were. Because we had to downsize to a cargo van, the move took us multiple trips. It's a bad business mode to give people's vehicles away during their allotted reservation time. I would have given my experience an "Excellent" rating except my unit had a considerable amount of rodent droppings. I was especially disappointed because U-Haul raised the monthly rental price for pest control, however, it seems that the problem was not mitigated. I only chose 3 stars because the staff was pleasant but there was a lot of hidden information that I did not like. The biggest issue I had was the fact that I was chatged $50 to cut MY lock off with materials I’m sure they keep on hand. Excellent service and clean vehicle. Mr. Hughes' patience with a faulty terminal was outstanding. I would look into upgrading the terminal equipment- credit card machine at this location because it would be frustrating to have to deal with that as an employee especially in the midst of a pandemic all the employees at this location seemed fast and attentive nevertheless! One day before my reservation, some from the customer support called me to confirm the truck reservartion for 12 hours . 10:30am to 22:30pm. When I got to the store the u-haul staff said that I had to return my truck at 5pm at same day (which wasn't what I had reserved. After some back and forth, the store staff was able to manage the situation and I got the truck. It seems that there is a disconnect between the customer and service and the store. I'm glad that the store was able to manage the situation otherwise I was in trouble with my move.Renato F.

The gas tank filler location on the cargo van is nearly impossible to find without prior knowledge. Let customers know...William F.
Employees (except one) did not wear their masks over their faces. One asked to manually enter my credit card information. When he saw my card did not have numbers to manually enter, he let me use a more conventional credit card machine. He then sent me to get a truck that was blocked in. The one employee who was wearing his mask properly drove up to where I was standing and helped me find that truck. Nothing was marked and the unmasked employee just told me to go to â€œrow Gâ€ - the masked employee went back in and helped me exchange my keys for the truck that actually wasn't blocked in. I returned to tell the unmasked employee that the gas tank was almost empty. He said that this was how some trucks were returned and did not offer me a replacement truck that actually had more than a few drops of full in it (mine was 25 miles from E or 1/16th of a tank). I asked to used the bathroom, but he said he had just mopped it. No caution signs had been put up to indicate that the now mopped floor was completely slippery and dangerous. The masked employee (who appeared to be doing most of the work) should be promoted. The rest should be demoted or fired.Alan P.

When I was returning the rental van this morning she went over and showed me where the proper size television box was located and added that besides the boxes available for purchase there was a stack of pre-used that were free for the taking that must have been returned by your customers who are environmentally conscious. Leading up to my move out, I called Uhaul several times to ensure that I would be out in time to not have to pay for the month of October. Each time, I could not reach the local office, and was sent to the national hotline. They would tell me they had no power to do anything, but they would send a note to the local manager, and he said he would call me back the next day. He never called back, and I was charged for the entire month despite moving out 1 day into that month's contract. I was out of town leading to the move out and could not personally go into the local office, so the fact that I could not reach it beforehand by phone is inexcusable, and resulted me paying an extra $200 that I should neve have had too. I hope Uhaul actually takes this seriously and refunds me for that last month, because it is entirely the fault of the local and national staff that I had this charge and would never recommend their service to anyone.Samuel J. | Overall Experience

The staff was wonderful. I interacted with the general manager while checking in and out and she was very kind. The amount of paperwork needed to rent a unit was ridiculous. Three phone numbers and two addresses? Really? Not to mention everything I filled out online didn't get transferred so the poor GM had to ask me and type everything in again. So inefficient. Lastly, the website advertises a free lock. It is $9.99, which definitely isn't free. The price is good, I just dislike false advertising. Overall, I'd use again. While generally my experience was good, I was extremely disappointed to see how U-Haul is handling COVID-19 and related safety precautions. When I went into the office to close out my account, only one employee was wearing a mask. One of the women behind the helping customers didn't even seen to have a mask nearby. Three men wearing U-Haul shirts also came in while I was there, and they all had their masks around their chin and did not cover their faces the entire time they were in the building. In addition, two people ahead of me in line weren't wearing masks either, and no staff member asked them to put one on. As I'm sure you know, it is against the law in DC not to wear in public during the COVID-19 pandemic. The fact that the staff chose not to be respectful to the health of clients--including clients like me who are pregnant and therefore in a riskier group--is highly unprofessional. An associate over the phone assured me that the space I was set to rent would be spacious enough to fit a 1 bedroom apartment plus some extra space. When I got to my unit I was not only furious to see the small space but furious with the unit itself. In my spot, there is a large pillar on the side which has taken up a good chunk of space. I am paying almost $200 and I wasn’t even given a space that was entirely empty - don’t understand that logic. I do not plan to overstay my original agreement and will be moving out my belongings after the 2 months I originally signed for. I will look for another storage facility in the surrounding area next time.
