I have rented trucks from this location in the past and never had any issuesâ€¦ The truck had less gas than I was told, the truck was dirty on the passenger side, and in the box. They could not find the keys for the truck I originally got an invoice forâ€¦ They got me a different truck and told me it was parked facing I 35â€¦ It was Between two other trucks one barely 6 inches apart, and the other mirrors touchingâ€¦ It rained overnight and the truck box leaked(top behind driver side) on my furniture that I had loaded. I did fill the truck up with gas so it has the appropriate amountâ€¦ But more than I used.Dawn D.
When we checked the trailer back in, some grumpy guy was clearly pissed off at something. he unhooked our trailer, ran it up against a pole and looked at us and gave us a thumbs up and walked off. We had to find another employee to get us a receipt.Amber L.

1. I reserved online a 24/7 pickup at 7:30am two weeks ahead of time. Apparently the location does not support self pickup but nobody cares enough to call me to let me know they were ignoring the pickup type. I waited for 1.5 hours until the location opened to get the truck. 2. I reserved 3 dozen blankets and planned on having them for the move. At pickup, the agent said â€œwe don't have any blankets so I will remove them from your reservation. Okayâ€¦I was planning on thoseâ€¦she didn't offer to sell me some at a discount and I didn't offer to buy any. Instead I bought a stack from Harbor Freight on my way home. 3. There was a junkie sleeping in the van we were given. I tried to get him out, then got help from a worker. The worker worked hard to clean the cab but it still smelled horrible. It was a seriously disgusting experience, but what else could I do? It was moving day. 4. I have a mysterious $79 â€œrental chargeâ€ on my invoice and when I called the location today to find out why they put me on hold until I eventually hung up. 5. When they put me on hold, that means she puts the phone down and I can still here everything she's doing. I hear customers' questions, names, addresses, phone numbers, and I hear her talking to other employees and not picking the phone back up. I have not exaggerated any of this. the person checking in the truck was great. but he was unable to help with my dispute about the 64.00 overage charge on the miles after explaing all of the trouble i had just getting equipment and the royal run around picking it up and trying to find it. the Baytown location on 146 and main st is and was the least helpful. i fee a customer should be sent to a location that has all of the items they are requesting on the original order, so they don't have to run all over in the truck they rented running up the miles and then being charged for the miles they incurredkimberly A.

Lavor was great during pick up and hooking up the dolly. Very kind and respectful. Thank you. On the other hand, the dolly was returned 4 hours later and parked where instructed. They failed to check their cameras and make sure I returned it on time, charged extra $700, and accused me of not returning it. All this could have simply been avoid if they took 5 min to check their video to match my statement. The lady manager who "helped" should be evaluated for her customer service skills.Abdul K.

The whole point of using the U-haul app for self check-in is so that you don't have to wait in line for help. I got all the way through the self check-in process and then went to look for the key drop box that the app told me would be present. There was none, so I went up to the counter and asked the attendant, who told me to "Hang out by your vehicle, there will be a guy out there to help you." I told him politely that I was simply going to leave the key on the desk, which seemed to offend him. Basically the location's process and the app process need to be better synchronized.Sean R.

This place is very dirty and never has soap or the flat bed of dolly equipment for paying customers. You have to search and search on all 4 floors of the building to find anything to help you move large things. Also, when I went to close out and turnover my unit, the guy behind the counter walked off and left me waiting a very long time before somebody else came in. I struggled to find the car that was assigned to me; when i got their the 'tire attention needed' light was on. when i went to bring the car back i struggled with the QR code which kept glitching out when i tried to pull it up via my email or via my cell phone. When i used my cell number, it said my session was expired. When i used the link from email, it brought me to the uhaul site which had 20 different menus popped up and i could not x out of them.Jamie D.

I scheduled a U-Haul for a 6:30 AM pickup, with the understanding that I could use my phone to pick it up, primarily because the service has the term "24/7" in it. Instead, I arrived and had to wait for 30 minutes until they opened at 7. Thirty minutes isn't the worst thing in the world, but we had 16 friends and family waiting to help load the U-Haul which arrived much later than expected. It was a bummer, and I wasn't the only person waiting out in the cold in confusion.Andrew F.
Really bad customer service from the people of the front desk. No explanation of the process of the rental. No explanation of the returning process. They just give me the key of the rental and they didn't take me to where the truck was, so I was looking around the parking lot myself. The right wing mirror was broken and could not be fixed. It was very dangerous to drive, as the vision from the full right side of the van was compromised. Fixed it on many occasions, but it was being held together by cable ties, and the mirrors themselves kept falling downwards. Unacceptable to have this issue on it. The van was filthy, couldn't see through the mirrors properly at night. Car would unlock all doors constantly and not lock all of them together, had to manually close them all with the key every time I opened the drivers door. Get newer vehicles. This one worked ok, but the steering had a little too much play. Maybe normal for 177600 miles. The after hours check in process could be reduced for those of us that got the big $28 daily "Safe Move" coverage. All the pictures I had to take, at night, after a long day, not fun.Richard M.
The representative I dealt with was rude and refused to do his job. I was told that I could return unused boxes to any location. Even with the receipt I was told to take them back to where I got them. I will be using Penske next time and submitting a negative Yelp review as well. Make sure the back cargo area of the uhaul is well cleaned out the one I rented had alot of old food and greasy stuff on floorboards also smelled like rotten eggs back there, had I not of been in serious need of it I would of passed on it and looked elsewhere.David R.

We were not told that we needed a key card access, the guy told us it was a 24hrs storage but the front desk lady told us it was not. There was also a huge concrete column going down the middle so most of our space was taken up. 5 stars especially for some staff members like Rotney. This guy went above and beyond to help me during my drop off. He's very sociable, polite, and knew what was to be expected during a drop off. Another two guys at this location were great to, but I missed getting their names. One guy worked inside at the computers, he had glasses, and was very sociable. The third guy helped guide me as I was trying to back out the van. Give them all raises!David E.
The only issue was the truck I rented had such a horrible smell from someone smoking cigarettes. I do think there should be options for a smoking or non smoking vehicle. It was clean but smelled terrible.Serena S.

The staff were inattentive and didn't seem to put in much effort at attempting to provide good customer service. I wasn't greeted when I walked in, they didn't have any of the equipment I requested, and the truck I received had bad brakes and a broken passenger side door handle. Also, the "moving companies" that are suggested via your company's website are terrible. Don't be fooled by these. These are not actual moving companies, more like independent workers who show up without equipment, paperwork, and expect you to pay them for terribly done work. On the same day, I had three companies who either 1) didn't show up to their scheduled time, 2) attempted to have me provide a payment code to them without doing work, 3.) Damage over 50% of my furniture. This was a terrible, terrible experience that I hope to never deal with again.Jeremy B.
Truck was not staged for pickup 24/7. After the loading of the truck, the battery of the truck died and we had to jump-start the truck. Most likely was some light that was left on but we could not find an indicator for turning off the lights. Had trouble returning truck after hours with the Uhaul app. The website would not function when adding photos of the dash or of the cabin. It often failed and gave an error about "memory too low". Asked for a 17' but was given a 15' instead. We unfortunately had to load items in the front with us which made it dangerous and challenging to drive. Got back to the uHaul location to let them know that I did not received a 17' as I had asked for ( I measured the trailer myself, not including the front) they gave me blank stares and no proper explanation. Very rude, disrespectful associates at desk. Not dressed in any uniform and you had to ask to be helped. They made fun of me as I was walking with a limp due to my hip surgery and we’re openly talking about it in front of other customers. Only one associate was nice and helpful. Maybe it is employee turnover like so many businesses now. We were given a key to the rental and told to go find the truck. The lot was full even having several lanes three trucks in. After searching the entire lot, the truck was found to be parked behind another and not clearly marked. Poor customer service. In my opinion the truck should be brought to the front for customer pick up and inspection. Upon inspection the miles were unable to be seen and there was a low tire alert on the dashboard. The store itself clearly had not be swept mopped or cleaned in quite sometime. I would highly doubt doorknobs etc had been wiped down. Everything was great! Cristy was very knowledgeable and extremely helpful. The only suggestion we would make is having trash cans somewhere in the building, maybe one per floor near the elevators. Before attempting to move my personal effects from storage unit, I would have rated Above average to excellent, but my exit experience was bad. I attempted to contact the Slaughter location on multiple occasions prior to the day of move out. I left a message with customer service Rep for Manager Tristin Timms to call me and I was told I would hear back from him. Next day with no call back I called again for Manager and person advised that she could help that she assist this location. I asked about my unit and that I had left my key in Houston and did the facility have a bolt cutter to cut my lock. I was told that they did and that it would not be a problem. When I arrived I was denied access and said I needed to call a lock smith to enter my unit. After an hour plus delay in locating a lock smith on a Saturday morning the lock smith arrived and opened my lock in less than 30 seconds. My overall issue is not that I needed a lock smith to open my locker it is the fact that I was given incorrect information and if I would have known about the procedure, I would have arranged to have open prior to the morning of my move. The manager on Duty tried to accommodate and indicated that she was new to the location.George B. | Overall Experience

All employees were very helpful and accommodating. The cashier was extremely patient with me. Even when he showed me were the storage size facilities were, the girl next to him knew I couldn't open them and opened them for me. They even offered me water. The young man who helped me with my boxes was extremely helpful with picking them out. He was also helpful with loading them up. There is a women up front that works the reservations at the Slaughter/IH 35 location in Austin. . I wish I had gotten her name, but she made my move somewhat enjoyable.
