I understand the rules and why I was charged for returning the equipment late. The worker there was just rude on the phone and when I move back to NC I'm going to use a different company, I'm a manager at a facility and if my staff treated people this way they would be fired. The storage unit is spacious, clean, and easy to access. In addition, the lighted location on Philo Road adds an important safety factor. My only disappointment was with the intake staff person who conveyed some impatience or unhappiness, spoke too quickly and seemed to resent my need for clarification and instructions, avoided eye contact, walked ahead of me to the check-in area, and gave the check-in key card and lock to my friend, rather than to me. This dampened my enthusiasm, but I was otherwise glad to find this unit nearby (and without a fee for the first month because I had driven a U-Haul Cargo Van to Urbana from Galesburg, Illinois, as part of my relocation plan.Nancy L. | First Impressions

There was a bit of a wait on Sunday to set up; only one staff member at the desk and a line, but when our turn came he was patient and thorough. Picking up was swift snd drop off even faster. That is do appreciated in a hectic and exhausting move.James B.
Moises went above and beyond to make sure the trailer we rented was exactly what we needed. He had to rewire the hitch to make sure the lights worked and did it without hesitation. When I opened my unit there were rat traps and dead roaches everywhere. I understand the rat traps as a precautionary measure but I was very worried about the dead roaches. I asked an employee to sweep them out and he did! However, I am still very uneasy about leaving my belongings there in the event that more bugs are there. The online self-return procedure is is terribly complicated, especially for those who are not good on a mobile device. The present complex procedure to return a vehicle will keep us from ever using U-Haul again if we know that we will be returning a vehicle after hours.WILLIAM E.

There was a black mark on the side that I wanted to let them know about, but I found out I needed a picture. The next time we stopped so I could take a picture, the link had expired. 🔥 I called, I forgot who, at around 4;30 PM on March 31, 2021 to see if there was a way to check online if my unit was locked because I had left town and wanted to triple check. The homie who was working there checked it for me and gave a call back promptly. Surprised to find service like that anywhere. Big ups to that staff. Also, though I had to pay more, the staff helped me change my unit to another one since the one I was given smelled like urine. One you nee.d to lower on your outside return box where short people can read what to do. No one told us how to use it when returning keys. There was a set to the truck and to another truck. When we took it back we put one set in box not realizing there were instruction to brining keys back. Left one set in truck beCause they were already there and lock truck put set inbox. Cost me $80.00to unlock truck because there two sets. Then I got charged $25.00 for person having to wait for correct key. Need to give instruction on paper when renting on how to return truck. The truck was uncomfortable. The seat was very limited on adjusting and my back and legs were sore. I had a seven hour drive after loading a three bedroom house and just couldn't get situated in the seat. This really isn't a complaint just comments. All in all, I saved a ton of money on renting the truck and trailer and using uhaul to provide movers. I would definitely use them again.Brian C.

I over filled the gas tank before returning the truck with 4.35 gallons. I drove 23 miles. However I was still charged for fuel without my knowledge after I left the facility. The employee was angry that I parked the truck in the lot where I got it. So he had to walk to it for the post inspection. There no way he did not see I returned it with more full than I picked it up with. Dishonest employees mean lost customers, bad reviews everywhere I can post them, and bad word of mouth. I returned the truck after office hours. So I downloaded the app to my phone so I could "check it in" to avoid an extra fee, as the contract instructed. The app didn't work! I couldn't get logged in. That REALLY made me angry! And, the truck doesn't have cruise control?! What? I'm going to drive seven hours on the highway in one day and there's no cruise control? That's ridiculous. It makes a person's leg very uncomfortable, and it's very wasteful of fuel. Cruise control is useful for increasing gas mileage.Loren K.

Unattended drop off of equipment said it only takes a few minutes... Took a lot longer with all the pictures required. But i realize it covers us both on damages. I've always used uhaul and always will. However on local moves I don't understand why we have to pay mileage. I can rent a brand new car for 50.00 a day and drive it 500 miles and only have to pay 50.00 plus taxes and insurance.Randy M.

I would recommend uhaul storage simply because the first month was free with use of a truck. My overall impression wasn't great, though. My access code to arm/disarm the alarm never worked and the alarm sounded every time I opened my unit. Service was slow and communication with uhaul reps vague. I wasn't able to move into my unit on the day scheduled because a uhaul rep failed to book my moving truck for the correct time, and when I had to pick up the truck at 6 they didn't inform me that offices closed at 7. The customer service from the front counter clerk was atrocious and I would rate this as poor if it weren't for the facility manager who rectified the debacle created by her employee. I was referred to the Southgate location after stopping at the Champaign U-Haul and was told by a polite gentleman that they were sold out of storage units. I arrived at Southgate and the older male behind the counter offered to assist after the store manager had to call him to return to the front counter while she assisted other customers. I requested a 5x5 but was told they were sold out and the only other option was a 10x10, which was double the price. I told him that I only needed to store a few items from my daughter’s dorm room that were in my small SUV just until August 22nd. The store manager told him that he could give me one of the 5x10 units that was reserved but he ignored her. I asked if I can wait for the store manager to handle but he insisted that she would tell me the same so I proceeded to reserve the 10x10 for nearly $400 and no free lock if I reserved it online. I asked if they could accept $299 since they had a bunch of 10x10 units open and no smaller ones but he said we don’t barter. I told him to cancel the transaction so I could proceed to reserve it online only to find that I could reserve the 5x10 unit and pay for it plus receive the free lock. The male then huffed and asked if I was asking him to cancel the transaction that he just entered for the past 15 mins as if I didn’t lose 15 mins of my time and he wasn’t still getting paid to talk about his life in San Diego. I said yes! Then the store manager turned to him and politely said “that’s what I said you could do for her earlier”. Needless to say, this would be a poor rating of it weren’t for the store manager and I would highly suggest you place reservations and pay for them online in order to avoid being up sold and overspendingTanya K. | Overall Experience
