The rental price is deliberately misleading. You boldly advertise $19.95 for a vehicle, and even though I live in the area, and I only used the van for 2 hours to move a single sofa, I ended up paying $60 after taxes and fees. It's my fault for not being skeptical, but I really couldn't afford $60 and it really hurt me this week. Also, when my son and I dropped off the van, we waited a long time under the canopy without seeing anyone until this obviously-annoyed Dylan Klebold-looking kid stormed up to us and barked â€œLeave the keys in it and you'll get an email when I get to it!â€ VERBATIM. He then turned and marched away. I promise you, I did nothing but greet him with a warm smile before he said that. It was enough to make my 10 year old son say. â€œWhat theâ€¦â€ and it embarrassed me because I felt I needed to confront him to demonstrate to my son the expectations for respect, but we were in such a hurry, I had to let it go. All in all, the whole experience made me feel like the rest of the world has lately: everything is awful and getting worse all the time.Michael D.

The front desk clerk was very kind and friendly, and was able to get me in and out of the store quickly, truck was ready to go. It was also very easy to return the truck, just pull up and the attendant was there right away to check the truck and I was able to leave without waiting. The storage unit staff, especially Christine, the facility manager we’re terrific! Frankly, these were the only Uhaul employees who honored their promises. Everyone else, from our (wrong and too small - even with the trailer we still left things behind in Austin and will have to return for them and start the moving process all over again!) truck pick-up in Kyle, all the other storage places in Norfolk area who called us a day after we picked up a two week rental asking us what time we’d be in Norfolk that day to drop off the truck and put stuff in storage, and your movers who broke things and showed up two hours late after pressuring us to meet two hours early and intimated us. We ended up unpacking the trailer ourselves while we waited and still had to pay the entire amount. We’ve called several times and someone is supposed to get back to us but never does. The moving company won’t give us a refund even though we called and told them about the intimidation we felt and requested different movers. We will NEVER use uhaul again and we’ll be warning our 5000 friends on FB, yelp and anywhere else we can find to complain unless we hear from someone and get some sort of refund.Anton p. | First Impressions
Me and my vetrian was put threw ringers over few medical dippers and things we kept stored in there . Pitchers of are 25 years . They had no care in the world we had COVID 2 x . Lost are truck due to jiffty lube in Norfolk VA . Fried are engine. And I needed medical att. Employee was rude about return process. If the app is not supposed to be used for returns during business hours, it should say so. In addition to this, there were constant technical issues. The odometer had to be photographed despite the fact it does not show up clearly on the camera. Also it made me reenter the mileage multiple times because I initially underestimated the mileage and then it sat spooling endlessly. All in all the return process was frustrating and challenging. The van itself was functional but it wasn't particular clean and it was incredibly scratched up with little record of the extensive scratches to the exterior and interior.David S.

Rented a unit here for 4 years and never had any issues. Customer service was hit and miss but when moving out the service was outstanding, and the employee was friendly and helpful. Telling me there's a $60 late fee for having the equipment back 30 minutes is ridiculous, it only cost $40 for the entire day. The 30 minutes was still within business hours, and had I selected a return time of 6:30 or 7 pm initially it would have been no extra charge. I have returned equipment a few hours late in the past at other locations and it was NEVER an issue.Ian D.

Upon arrival for drop off I was greeted with a very rude and unprofessional employee. I was directed inside for a receipt however the door was broken, and was informed had been for quite some time. After having an issue with fuel level at time of return I was told I could speak with the manager who apparently wasn't available and wasn't able to be contacted either? I later that week received a call from a different employee, still not the manager, stating the fuel issue was handled and my final receipt would be emailed to me. I have been a customer of U-Haul in the past and have never had such a terrible experience as this. From unprofessional employees to two tire blow outs, one was fixed in a reasonable time frame however the other took in excess of 24 hours before replacement of two tires was complete. The second tire blow out I would be placed in the care of a different roadside assistance employee every time I was contacted for updates. I sat on the side of the highway for 12 hours before I was told to leave the vehicle, with all my belongings inside, on the side of the road and it would be towed to my final location 40 miles away, where I would be able to unload, without penalty of going over my return date, and then it would be towed to a facility after unload was complete. I was later called and told that the tires where changed and I had to go pick up the truck myself driving an hour there and an hour back Wasting more of my own time and gas. While unloading I had received a phone call from the drop off facility inquiring as to why I hadn't returned the equipment yet. After explaining the situation they said they had no notes nor had they been contacted by anyone pertaining to the incidents. I expected better service after spending almost $10,000 in equipment rental fees.Alex K.

Two things that could have gone better: 1) At the pickup, let the customer know to immediately look for the email to verify the condition of the truck & mileage. I wasn't told, so I had already arrived at my office to move before I noticed it. 2) I added an appliance dolly to my order at the store, and was told to grab one by the back door. The next morning, I got a call that they needed the serial number off of the dolly. I didn't have time to look right away, so told them I'd have to call back. When I looked, my mover had strapped it to the items I was moving, so I couldn't get to it. Tried to call back and was put on a long hold, so I hung up, as it was eating into my rental time. If the serial number was important, it should have been recorded before I left. The store was not busy.Kelly E.

Although Move-In day was fine (no issues), we have subsequently been back 2 times to retrieve items. Both times the elevator has been broken and when you have a 2nd floor unit this is inconvenient. Also, we now cannot get our BBQ out for the Fourth Of July and we have an appliance to retrieve (Freezer) after our move-in. Both items cannot be carried downstairs. If I'm ever in need of a storage unit again I'll definitely choose your facility. Every encounter from the day of check in to the day of check out was seemless. You guys have done an excellent job in picking the best staff. They are all funny, engaging and helpful. I'm sorry I can't remember names but last 2 interactions stand out the most. The first lady (she has a nose ring) was so kind and sweet helping me after I lost my key card. The second lady (I believe she had teal highlights) who helped me get my truck checked me and another guy out at the same time, can you say skills and efficiency, she was also kind and hilarious. The storage unit was sealed. Took 45 min in line to speak with person at desk. He didn’t know why the hnit had a green plastic seal on the latch. He said he would have to see it, but he had other customers to take care of. My movers broke the seal to enter the locker. The roll up door started falling off the roller. Very dangerous! Another 30 min wait to get another storage locker…the “last one available”…and it had a padlock on it. Back to find someone to remove the padlock. Everything went pretty well except for the fact that the guy at the desk handed me my access card when I first checked in for my reservation, he said just use this later when you want to put your stuff into storage and you'll be able to get in. I went to go drop my stuff later (around 10PM) when they were closed, and it said access denied you have to check in first. I looked around for directions and it said you have to check in at the alarm system station which was right next to it. I try to swipe it there and it still says access denied. Needless to say, they didn't really give me good instructions for after hours. I tried to call the number that said for "after hours only" and they didn't answer. Just a heads up, nothing crazy. The staff and facility manager were very generous and wonderful! Great customer service and they allowed me to temporarily store my belongings in the truck for a few days due to my apartment not ready to move in yet so it was a bit of a delay which is still is but the Uhaul staff was very considerate enough to allow me to hold their moving truck while i was waiting for my apartment to be done.
