The folks at the Scarborough location and specifically Joey saved my entire move to Ottawa from Toronto. Originally I received confirmation to pick up at the Etobicoke location on Rexdale (I have a picture from the system). It should be noted that I never received a call the day prior confirming my details as promised during the booking process experience. When arriving at 7am I was met with surprise that I was there. The team directed me to the Scarborough location, a 60 minute drive in rush hour Toronto traffic, to get my rental. The team at Etobicoke did try to connect with traffic and customer service without luck due to no answer. Should be noted that the PBX system was also down as I held for over 20 minutes twice and each time a system error was noted and my calls dropped. Upon arriving, now late to help prep for our hired movers through UHaul, I was told that my car hauler wasn't available. This is where Joey owned the customer. He recognized my frustration and worked with me to find a solution with the hauler. He ended up working with traffic to locate a hauler at a location in Oshawa and had it sent to their location later in the day. Joey used his empowerment and reduced my bill by $50 and ensured that he followed up with me directly with updates and to ensure my equipment wasn't rented by another customer. If it wasn't for Joey my day would have been a loss. In fact, my wife wanted to give up. I made my reservation on May 12 and thought I had peace of mind due to this but I was absolutely wrong. You say you serve families but in this case Joey served my family and all the teammates that were apart of the process let my family down and set Joey up for failure in the service delivery to the customer. Thank god he's a good human being and has caring and compassion in his DNA. If it were just me I wouldn't care about an inconvenience like this but because I have a wife and 2 children under 4 you can perhaps imagine the stress that comes from this experience when you are trying to move 600kms to Ottawa. I have used U-HAUL a lot in my life but moving forward I will never use you again and will pay the premium to have the peace of mind. As someone who manages large amounts of inventory it is obvious you have several areas to improve your business. From the UX/UI of your booking engine, inventory management systems that are likely fragmented and not integrated to a lack of adequate inventory available. Pre planning is key to setting up your operations team for success and I would recommend that you conduct user sessions with your staff who use your tools and face experiences like this daily. Looking to companies like Apple and Ritz-Carlton/Marriott would serve your organization well.Luke N.

I rented a 5x8 open trailer. The trailer was dirty when I picked it up. I returned it in the same condition and the Uhaul person said I should have cleaned it. That isn't my problem if you give me a dirty trailer. Also, this trailer is dangerous and should be taken out of service. It is very old and doesn't have any springs. So it bounced like crazy. Also the chains on the back gate are defective. I rent trailers often from this Location and normally am very happy. 1. Got a booking email stating I booked a 26' truck and trolleys, elsewhere the email said that the "equipment" will be confirmed. "Equipment" is interpreted by most people as the trolleys as opposed to the vehicle itself 2. Got switched to a different pickup location and truck size reduced to 20', your Toronto call center staff explained that my booking email wasn't your "guarantee", and that the 20' truck is part of my "guarantee" email, then hung up on me, I called in again to order a 6' trailer near the new pickup location to make up for lost space. 3. After receiving the 20' location and truck size "guarantee" email, I got another email the day before pickup saying that my 20' truck pickup is now "guaranteed" at another location on the other side of Toronto instead, and very far from the trailer pickup location. This means that the previous "guarantee" was broken. I asked for the $50 rebate on U-Haul's broken guarantees, the same Toronto call center lady who hung up on me argued that the $50 rebate couldn't be used with any other discounts then hung up on me again. Overall, this experience was full of broken promises on U-Haul's part and very disappointing call center service.Hang C.

Please ensure that locations that do not open until 11 cannot book trucks for 8am. Last Saturday I was stranded. I had arranged to pickup a truck at 8am online, when I arrived at the location they were not open and wouldn't open til 11. I went to the warden location in a panic and was speaking to traffic department on the phone and got very lucky that there was a truck I could use over there. I would like some reimbursement for the one hour I was delayed as I got a subsequent charge from my condo for going over time with the elevator as the staff member had to stay late so I could finish. I signed in and set up an account online as it said that this would speed up the process of picking up the vehicle but when I got to the location to pick up the vehicle I was told I still had to Lineup because I didn't have the right confirmation number - that was not clear on the website. When I finally got the vehicle it was difficult to upload any pictures of damage and when I dropped the vehicle off the website check out Service did not work for me luckily I found another customer who was able to check my truck For me. I had to rely on a total stranger getting some of my personal information in order to use the website. I found the whole process painful. The only easy part was actually booking the truck through the Leslie Street office. Once i placed a call to the location to say I would be late, and i was placed on hold for 45 minutes, during the time i went to the location, and also stayed in the line for 15 minutes. I monitored that there was no reason that the call couldn't have been answered. Also after the 15 minutes line up, it turned out that i did not have to even be in the line up to return the vehicle. Also some of the female staff are not courteous on the phone and when we wanted to extend by a day, they threaten to call the police if not returned on the agreed day of return. There is a reason why we wanted to extend to the second day and it is not for free we are renting the truck. I would suggest that they are trained well to handle situation like this and also not threaten the customer or the emergency contact. You need to call the police if the customer has rented the vehicle and not returned for days beyond the contract time and not answering any calls or no communication . You do not do that when the customer is communicating with you and you are charging the customer using their credit card multiple transactions.ARUN DAVID B.

My confirmation email had an address closer to me that I selected 2 weeks prior and I had a text from that address saying to call when I arrived. When I got there, they had no record of my rental and told me that I was at the wrong address and had to go to the warden location even though their phone number contacted me in the morning of that day indicating that was where I needed to go. No notification was given prior to the day. A phone call arrived 5 min before the official pickup time from the warden location. The email indicating the change in location only arrived after we moved everything and returned the truck. It was very inconvenient and nothing was provided as compensation for the extra mileage that had to be added only apologies for the error and lack of notification. The dolly became dislodged during the 10 minute drive from the UHAUL location and I was charged a $14 total rental fee for this. I also felt that the location could have used more staff to get through the lines a bit quicker. I had to search through every at the front and back of the lot to find my equipment rental. The easy load ramp should be easy to remove. The ramp on the truck I rented was very hard to remove and stow. It took the full body strength of 2 men to pull it out and stow it back. The ramp constantly got stuck. My hands hurt that day due to all the forced pulling and pushing of the ramp.Arjun S.

We were supposed to get a 26' truck from the Guildwood location and the morning of our move were called to say the truck was not returned and instead we will get a 20' truck from the Warden location. The location change was fine, but the smaller truck was unfortunate, as we could not fit all of our stuff in one trip, as planned. My issue with this pick up was that It wasn't the location I had booked my pick up at. I know this is your policy with one way trucks but I booked my truck a month in advance at a location within walking distance from my house to ensure a smooth transition for my moving day. uhaul changed the pick up location 24hours before my move. Not just to another location within my city but to an entirely different city. I had to take a very 40 minute Uber just to pick up my truck. This was a major inconvenience and added to an already intense day. Also the gas was at 3/8s of a tank. Which he would have been fine but was down to 1/4 of a tank by the time I drove from Scarborough back to my home in Toronto. I was given an all-in price on the phone and I arrived with my own lock which was a high quality lock. When I came in to rent the van body, I was told I was required to purchase and use a Uhaul lock. That lock was junk and did not even secure through all three portions of the van body door fastener (but my own lock did). The staff were rude on several occasions. additionally, I was taken for the first time, on a golf cart, to see the unit, the driver smashed the roof of the cart on the opening garage door and debris flew at me. The ‘gold’ lock that goes on the left side of the unit is also a joke. One swing of a tack hammer would open it. Obviously this is just a means of pressuring people into paying more for 24 hour access in addition to forcing people to buy a crappy uhaul lock. The location is not secure and my unit leaked, damaging a $4000 mechanical massage chair. I have, over the years, rented many, many uhaul trucks, mostly for business purposes, but sometimes for personal use (as I did to fill up my vanbody storage rental). I did not rent from uhaul when I emptied it out. Because of your unfair, gauging policies, rude staff, inadequate facilities and the generally poor service (staff would not even provide me a paper receipt a email only) uhaul has lost my business permanently.
