The service at this location was very good, but the truck assigned to us was terrible. We've rented five previous times this year (so far) from U-Haul and have never had such an old beat up poorly maintain truck. You all should be embarrassed to let that vehicle out for rent. The front end sounded like it was going to fall apart every time we had a hole, and it was so antiquated, there wasn't cruise control. We traveled ~90% highway yet only achieved an average mpg of only 8.7 miles to a gallon, which cost us $40 in fuel the end of day instead of the usual $20. If U-Haul wants to continue to keep our business, I feel that we should be compensated for our terrible experience suffered through yesterday. I put a reservation in for the 26 ft truck at a close location and they moved it to rhode island 33 miles each way so that's an extra $65 for milage and extra fuel and they wouldn't give me the $50 equipment guarantee.Michael O.

And each time the associate was very pleasant and very accommodating. And returning the van was very easy. I had had bad experiences in the past. This is not the location's fault, but uhaul really needs to step it up on honoring reservations. I've moved every year for 6 years and only once have received the truck I reserved. First trailer had a rear light out. Had to uncouple and move to another trailer. 2nd trailer had a strong foul odor upon lifting of rear door for final inspection. It was bad. Had to uncouple again and move to a 3rd trailer. Upon returning 3rd trailer after hours, had to wait 32 mins on hold to speak to someone to notify of return after hours (my phone is not a smart phone). I will continue to rent with Uhaul as I have had more good experiences than this first "bad" experience. Amanda in Cumberland, RI was very helpful in overcoming the problems. Waited for 30 minutes for someone to assist me, truck was not clean interior dirty and windshield was full of nicotine, was told I could return after closing with only a fee yet was called by an employee and told they had reserved the truck for 6pm and I needed to get it back asap. Then was charged for a second day upon return which was a half hour over the time of return. Would not recommend this location.Shawn P.

When I went to pick up the truck there were two people working, one helping a customer, I waited about 10 mins for the second person working there to stop talking to the other customer! I checked in online so I can make it to my destination at a decent time, but thanks to this employee I didn't.. then I return the truck with the SAME amount of gas I go it with, probably off by tiny bit and I was charged $11 dollars! I had scheduled a 26 foot truck from Smithfield on 8/2. On 8/1 at 5:30pm I got a text that I needed to go to N. Smithfield instead. Arrived there and the truck was given to us. We put it in drive and it only went in Reverse! We had to then get a 20 foot from Cumberland. We ran out of room so I had to get a 10 foot from East providence. No one would let me return both at one location. Worst experience ever!Jacob N.

My issue was not with the service at this Uhaul location, it's with the Uhaul reservation system. I made a reservation to pick up a van in Natick Massachusetts 2 weeks before my expected move date. Uhaul called the day before my move to tell me there were no vans available and I would have to travel to Cumberland Rhode Island. This added not only an extra hour to my travel time, but also the cost for the Uber. In terms of pick up experience, the self mobile checkout had a few bugs. I was unable to scan the store bar code. I also had issues logging in for my order, I never received the security code I needed. One frustrating part is that the approval process is a bit black box. It's unclear what steps were completed or how long the process might take. I also could not switch over to in person pick up when I was having issues with my phone.Andrew F.

To say that the customer service is flawless is and that's an understatement. I've used the uhaul on Mendon road in Cumberland a few times now and have had a storage unit here for about a year. I've had a few interactions with Kim and another gentleman who's name I cant remember but he helped me pick out my storage unit. He walked me though the building and helped me choose one that would best suit my needs. Yesterday I moved out of my unit and reserved a 26ft truck, but the day before they said that it wasn't available as the customer who has it wouldn't be here in time. She told me that she could help me out with the 15ft truck. 2 minutes later she called me again and said that they could do 2 15ft trucks for a good deal. I was super impressed again with how much everyone there helped us out. I'm absolutely floored, I couldn't appreciate everything they have done for me more. Thank you again so much. After 17 years of having a space at your center the only bright spot was Brian Rishe, who was very friendly, helpful and sympathetic to my situation. The lock had been changed without my knowledge or permission in 2007 by "David " the manager at that time. I don't understand why a perfectly good lock was removed without my knowledge or permission. According to computer notes it is alleged that 2 keys were sent to me which I knew nothing about. Why a master key was not maintained in the office defys any and all business common sense. on part of your management. Then we find the lock was put on upside down which required me to call a locksmith and spend an additional $75.00 to have the circular lock removed. Next I tried to access the unit only to have to pry open the door handle with considerable force because the door and the bar had been over painted causing both to bond together. Once in it was apparent that someone had been in my unit since the plastic I used to cover everything within the unit was dumped in the middle of the floor, boxes were everywhere, my file cabinet draws were opened and the contents were rifled through, and the floor was covered with odd and end garbage consisting of metals shards, ripped up paper, and crayola crayons , all of which had nothing to do with my contents. The place was a disgusting mess. Then the worse problem was that my Conn Symphony 8 H trombone in my original case was missing!! As if to make matters even worse, I was informed that U-Haul's policy is not to reimburse portions of monthly payments unused. I intend to contact U-Haul headquarters to resolve this but suspect that it will end up in a court battle.ROBERT R. | Overall Experience
