We left one parcel in the back of the van we rented. We realized this after drop off. As the location was closed I called the call centre where a â€˜note was left on file about the parcel'. I called first thing next day to claim our parcel and was told by the manager that â€˜they didn't find anything but generally throw things out right away'. This is horrible customer service. They had my name and phone number and certainly could have called to say they had it and we could pick it up. It was less than 24 hours. Very poor customer service. It also speaks to the fact that they didn't even look in the van when we returned it as they would have seen it right then. I am not impressed Although it was our mistake to leave it in the van, they obviously had no concern about returning a item. They have either kept it for themselves or threw it out not considering the impact to the customerNicole M.

I was charged a deposit for using a Visa Debit which I have not been charged in the last year when I have rented equipment before. Same Visa Debit same location. The customer service rep argued that I had to have been charged it before since they always do but I was not and I said as much and he told me I was wrong because they always charge it. Well if he checked into my service and purchases in the past year he would have seen exactly that but also as a customer service person it is never good to argue with a customer and treat them as if they don't know their own account history. I would suggest there be some better customer service training provided to ensure customers like me continue to return. There are alternatives to Uhaul within HRM for equipment rentals. It may cost more but the service is better than at the Windmill Road location.Barbara M.

The front end of the truck was pulling to one side and in July the air conditioner wasn't working . Over the last several years, I have utilized U-Haul Storage on Windmill Road Dartmouth, NS to store my furniture. I would highly recommend anyone to use your storage site. My furniture and personal affects were secure at the storage and that was a top priority for me! The general manager ( Kim Singh)) was a professional, rendered excellent customer service and she would resolve any pending issue that I might have regarding my account or being out of the HRM area. The 10ft truck rented was a new truck with only 10,000 kms on it but the overhead door cables broke while loading truck. And while the repair was being done, they noticed a leak at front of box which resulted in truck needing to go to shop for repair. This took a few hours out of an already hectic moving day but the people at the location were great to deal with and handled the situation professionally and quickly but am disappointed that no credit was offered by U-Haul on the charge for truck rental for the inconvenience.Kevin M.

The check in process using the phone app was a pain. Would not recognize my location. Tried calling g and was told a 30 minute wait. No one wants to wait 30 minutes to drop off keys at midnight after moving furniture for 12 hours. Then I did a live chat. That was easier. I would rather have just been told to take a photo of the odometer and gas, and drop keys in box. That would be better than waiting for live chat to tell me.David G.

You can not charge people for extra money with out consulting with them first. The fact you tell people that everything is fine at check in then, you use my visa to charge me for stuff after the fact, your incompetence is brutal, and I have very little respect for the way you just use my visa with out consulting with me, I want my money back and an apology for trying to take advantage of me!! Appalling customer service. The staff, after promising me one truck in one location, insisted that I pick up the truck in another location 30mins from where we had originally agreed. They then did NOT inform me that the drop-off location was changed. This was then compounding by further rudeness on the phone after waiting an hour on hold and being transferred twice. I was yelled at that I had no choice in the matter - even though I was actually doing your company a favour because the tuck I used was in the wrong province.Richard D.

I think the "location" is fine, staff are friendly. I did however have an issue with the quality and condition of the equipment I rented. First off, the truck (26') was not fit for the road. I lived very close to this location so nothing was noticed about the way the truck drove. It wasnt until after I loaded the truck and began my 100 km commute to where I was moving to that there was issues (via NS HWY 102). The truck had an issue with gear shifting, it ran RPMs way to high which caused the "lower RPM" indicator to be on, the indicator with the wrench and the gear icon flashed on and off the whole trip and as a result i burned way more gas then what I should have for this trip. The truck struggled to maintain 100km cruising speed and mostly bounched between 70km/h to 90km/h unless I was going down a hill. I drove 100km back to the Uhaul location with an empty load and experienced the same issues with driveability. The breaks were in very bad condition, the front end would shake terribly at any speed with or without a load. In closing I also requested two dollys and only received one normal dolly and one appliance dolly. The appliance dolly was uselss for our move and was unusable by my partner. This made our move extra difficult. We placed our order a month in advance so we at least expected to receive two dollys for moving boxes. I personally purchased over 5 bundles of medium Uhaul boxes, over 4 rolls of green plastic, matteress bags and tape for our move. We did not have any appliances to move. We will use uhaul again (actually renting another one this week for emptying our storage unit) but this recent moving experience was not the best and we hope your service improves. Location and truck great but customer service on the phone is awful. I had to call to keep the truck for a few more hours. Call the location and was transferred to customer service in Ottawa, On, when renting the truck in Halifax, NS. Then got transferred twice to Ottawa again after being told they can't do anything. Add to find the phone number and call directly the customer service for Nova Scotia to end up not being able to get it done. Finally called back the location and they were able to extend it this time. All of this over 4 hours bringing me well pass the original return time. Original return time 2pm extended until 5pm. First call around 12:30pm and extension approuvÃ©s around 3:30pm.Etienne L.

At first there wasn't a unit available in the size I reserved. Then they found one,but it was on the second floor. It was bigger too so more money. Then we find it is locked and full of someone else's stuff. Long and short of it they found a pod in the upper yard at a cheaper price and I got the first month free. Good job to all that helped me. Prior to picking up the trailer I bought a pack of 15 large boxes. I only used 8 of them so I brought the other 7 boxes back to return. These were the exact same boxes I bought 2 days earlier and unused. Despite the "100% return guarantee" printed all over the boxes the uhaul employee refused to accept them. He said one box was torn on a corner and another had it's "tab" cut (whatever that means) but like I say the boxes were unused they literally sat in my hallway in a pile and then I returned them. So whatever condition the boxes were in was how they were when I bought them. I was extremely annoyed that Uhaul was basically ripping me off over some $3 boxes. I ended up leaving these 7 spare boxes at the Bayers Lake Uhaul store but didn't get any refund. I would like to be reimbursed the cost of these 7 large boxes please as I don't appreciate dishonest business practices such as this.Paul Nicholas W.

Hi, The vehicle was good but l am not sure why l charged far pricier than l expected. I already reserved my truck with all options l need and it was 45, but finally l charged more than 100 for that moving. I brought back my truck at 18:10 instead of 18:oo and they charged me whole hour and its happened just after l asked about reporting my time and a lady with U-Haul uniform told me "No its fine". The experience was good overall. It was unfortunate that the pick-up location was changed at the last minute and I had to take a $30 taxi to get the truck. Waited for an hour (8PM to 9PM) before I was able to get in as they are trying to figure out what to do. May or may not recommend, uncertain. First time I used this location, it was 24hr access. 7 days a week. This time around, the location wasn't accessible like it had been. However, it also wasn't the same physical building. When I ask for a larger unit, it was suggested there were a couple coming up, and in the meantime if a smaller unit would be ok, I could get the larger unit at a later date. Been several years. Never happened, even though units directly across from mine were emptied twice that I'm aware of. Incidentally, I was offered a second smaller unit. Not useful. Not what was suggested. I'm glad I'm no longer a tenant. One, all of my items are in one unit now. For less than the 5'×10' unit I had. One thing that I'm not satisfied with is the free month storage that you are allowed to have according to the website and actually, you cannot have it. I rent a Uhaul Van (Contract #27797743) going to Quebec (2500Km in total) and back in Halifax. Sadly, I've been told that I wasn't eligible because I took the truck in Halifax and return it to Halifax. On your website, it is said that I had 2 yrs to claim a month free of storage. This is the part that I will not recommend to friends if they will do the same procedures as me. Meaning, rent a truck UHaul, to a place drive that many KM, and back. Very disappointing. I hope you will reconsider to allowed us to have one month free especially since I will be using your storage for 6 to 18 months in total. Also the decision to extract my credit card info from past transactions in order to illegally attempt to make a charge due to late payment was very illegal. At the Uhaul on Windmill I unfortunately was reluctantly served by the lady who obviously hates her job and would rather be doing anything than helping customers. She had me waiting and waiting while she was putting stock on shelves. As slow as she possibly could. After about 10 minutes she finally served me. She provided me with my facility directions and map and hours. I asked how do I get in? She told me to drive through the door. I sat in front of the door waiting for it to open… nothing… went back inside again and thankfully the other gentleman who obviously loves his job and serving customers showed me how to open the garage and apologized that someone had turned it off. I get to my storage locker and it’s sealed shut. I go back in again and ask her how to I break the seal to access my locker. She rolls her eyes at me, saunters over to the display locker and mockingly rolls up the locker door to show me how to get in. At this point I’m furious. Reserving a truck, equipment and storage unit doesn’t mean anything. The storage unit I reserved was not there for me nor was there any explanation when booking that it was first come first serve whether I reserved it or not. So was given a much smaller unit and a second unit of the same size free for only a month. No apology asked if when the size unit I reserved opened up if I could be contacted…. Doubt that will happen. Almost didn’t get the right size truck because the one that was supposed to be mine was having mechanical issues. Thankfully they had an extra one. Reserved a furniture and appliance dolly and got neither. Was told they were all gone in the morning even though again I reserved both for the time I reserved the truck. It was bad enough 2 of the 3 things I needed from uhaul went completely wrong but then the staff really didn’t seem to care and just wanted to finish the transaction and send you on your way didn’t make the situation any better. Directions were not explained such as when you return the truck get one of the guys outside to do the check rather than come back in to the front desk and wait in line for 25 minutes before they tell you “oh just go outside and get one of the guys”. I’ve used uhaul several times for my own moves and friends and family. An alarm blared every time I tried to open my locker, despite having confirmation it was ready and a tag on the door saying it was ready. When I contacted the front desk, I was treated rudely and told to come back in 2 days when they had a chance to fix the alarms. I said this was unacceptable because I'd already paid for the unit and driven with a van full of stuff to store. This went back and forth until someone else was put on the phone. Communication after your stuff is in storage is non-existent. I sent an email asking if I had set up auto pay correctly with no response. I was then charged a late fee. I decided to pay two months up front and then another (3rd) month's payment was taken off my credit card without me knowing. I've asked for confirmation that 3 months payments have been recieved and if I will not be charged agian until November or if I wil get a refund and guess what? No response. Just this survey/review. Not only did I call first the confirm that there was a storage unit the size that I needed, was still available, I reserved online a unit at the Dartmouth location. I selected my move in date and got an email confirming my unit was reserved. When I arrived on my move in date, the lady informed me that the unit was not available. Apparently reserving a unit online or even calling to reserve, doesn’t confirm that you will actually have a unit available to you. Minutes after the lady told us about there not actually being a unit being reserved for us, her co-worker informed her that there was a unit that just opened up minutes ago. So the unit I selected was $159+ taxes and the unit that I am now paying for is over $200 a month with taxes and tenants insurance…. Not pleased at all with how Uhauls system works, it makes absolutely no sense. The lady at the office was very helpful and sweet with us but I will not be renting a unit from uhaul in the future.Olivia M. | First Impressions
