Have "movers" that can be booked in advance to help load everything from the van into the uhaul storage (or vice versa). Certainly a service I would pay for.RAYNA S.
The single staff on duty was incredibly helpful and friendly, despite having a long, long line of people waiting for help. The cell service in Fairbanks caused the web check in system to talk several minutes between screens, and had timeout errors several times. The truck finally signed via 24/7 truck share was not in legal operating condition, with huge cracks on the line of view of the driver. When asking for help via chat and saying the truck was not useable, it took 15 minutes to get an answer of "please call this number". I waited on hold for another 10 minutes before giving up and getting in line. Half an hour of waiting in line later, watching the employee desperately trying to serve so many people, he was able to pull up my reservation. While there were many 10' trucks on the lot, he said there were no other in town ones available. I asked if there was one a size larger, or a van ready of that would be easier. He said there was a van that had just come in, but he had not had time to inspect or service it yet. I elected to take it as at least a legal option. The van had a very strong barn animal oder inside, possibly goats? The cab had tons of hair stuck into the seat fabric, a covered mirror was cracked, there was some unnoted damage to the front bumper fascia, and the window also was cracked, but at least not in the line of sight. I used the link texted to report and record these issues, which took almost another 30 minutes as again Fairbanks, as well as the majority of Alaska, has very, very slow Internet and cell tower data bandwidth. Finally, 90 minutes after my planned pickup time, I left for a otherwise trouble free 24hr rental. On return, the web check in was just as slow and painful, taking over 25 minutes to complete, reach photo required would take 5-10 minutes to upload. Your push to with check in is not working on Alaska. You need to either find a way to make it less heavy on data, offer a kiosk, or bring back physical staff. I rent a truck several times a year for both long distance 1 way business use, and often for local personal use when I need the extra room. Over the last few years it's getting more and more difficult each time. Pickup for a online reservation used to take all of 10 minutes. Now it's measured in hours. To be clear, this is the case at all the Fairbanks are locations, as I've tried several. The staff member who was on site Friday evening by himself should get a big accolade, and raise, for being so professional, despite obviously being overwhelmed with the number of customers he had to handle and clearly many issues with having the staff to maintain your fleet.Donald L.

Access to storage unit was continuously blocked by trucks, maneuvering personnel vehicle onsite was very congested. Units were being flooded by water and ice. Rented at 10:20 AM on 27 January 2022 returned at 08:00 AM on 28 January 2022 and yard atendant disappeared after trailer was disconnected so I departed then ten hours later I received an online receipt which purports I returned it at 10:30 and charged me for after hours service call!!! I rented this uhaul for a few hours and was charged for 2 days and now cannot reach anyone to get this rectified. I spoke with Billy who said he would tell his boss to "fix that mistake", still hasn't been fixed. During the drop off the website wouldn't pick up my shared location (dumb idea), I had to call and hold forever to figure out how to get this dropped off so it was documented when I dropped it off. The only thing I wish could’ve been different is that if I pay for 24 hour access, that I would be able to use the large automatic loading and unloading doors at the front of the building, rather than having to move in and try to fit everything through the small single side door. Although there was a keypad which I was able to put my combination into at the big front door, it would not open or unlock after 8 pm, which made it difficult to initially move my belongings into the storage unit, being that we arrived into Fairbanks around 9pm, and paid extra for 24 hour access. I know good help is hard to find, your store on airport way, needs to have people with good customers skills. I usually clean the inside of the van's and outside of them when I rent them. The equipment needed repair. I had to switch to a different truck. The second truck had issues too but the agent warned me of what to avoid. I was given the option of a larger truck but preferred to stick with the smaller one. In the end it got the job done with no real problem. I was kept waiting way to long at check in. I made a reservation over 6 months in advance for a cargo van plus I called U-haul 4 different times in the preceding months leading up to my pick-up date and still when I arrived there was only a huge 24 foot moving truck available at Fairbanks. The truck was way too big for my needs and used much more fuel! I'm very dis-pleased and would not recommend U-Haul because the same thing happened last year when we reserved a cargo van from U-Haul! Place was trash, I waited like 35 minutes for them to just assign me a truck. Noone was infront of me either. Then was informed that the truck was on empty and I would have to go fill it. Upon inspection the outside of the truck was completely ass. Dents every where the hood didn't close all the way and the driver side door wouldn't completely shut, ( didn't notice this until driving). The inside of the truck was dirty with dog hair, lots of rocks and dirt. But again I had to be the one to clean it. Fast forward to the next day, I had been told if the truck was not there at the site by 0900, I would be charged a late fee. So me doing the right thing, showing up at 0845 hoping to be in the front of the line. I then proceeded to wait until 0942 when the doors finally opened. Hard to communicate with local store. They don't answer the phone. I dropped off car for hitch install at 8:00 and was never contacted all day to let me know status. I tried to call several times and after long wait was answered by someone in Texas who couldn't help me. The next day I drove to store and they said they were done but never called me. When I got home I realized they had failed to install the wiring harness so I had to return the car and now I don't know when I will get it back .. nice people there but poorly managed.Gary G.

My experience with Uhaul storage was terrible. From the first day the electronic key pad told me my door was still open when I left for the day. I asked an employee and they told me not to worry about it. After a few days I talked to the manager and was told he would call me by Tuesday (a week) to set up an appointment to fix it. Two months go by and I asked to speak to the manager because now the door has been dented (by a snow plow) and the bottom of the door popped out of the door tracks. Because of this the door wasn’t 100% secure. Also the door wouldn’t stay open when you were inside the unit. The door would fall at any moment. This was a huge safety concern. There was no manager to be found but their was a regional supervisor. She told me that the last manager moved back to the lower 48. I explained all my problems with the unit and she told me someone would fix it. She took down my information and said she would call in a few days. She finally called about two months later asking when I was available to meet someone to fix my unit. I told her that I wasn’t available during the times she had available. The times were during working hours. It would be super inconvenient for me to get off work for this. Finally we agreed to a weekend and a time. I met the repair man at the date and time we agreed on. He examined the door and agreed with all my complaints and said it was not as secure as it should be and that the door was dangerous. But he did not have any tools or parts to fix it and I would have to reschedule. This was the last straw for me. I found different arrangements and canceled my unit. So it all started in the morning I had to wait almost 15 mins in line which I wasn’t all that mad about the employee was working alone which I understand but I sign up and get my storage unit I go up to check it out and there’s already a lock on it... so I go back down stairs wait in line again for another unit go back up and check everything out and all is good so I go back and get my things from my place and drive back at about 415 they close at 5 so plenty of time so I go to swipe my card and “access denied account suspended “ so I had to go back in the office and wait in a long line again for them to not to even find me in the system! The employee goes and gets his manager Roy who after awhile finds me in the system but the employee signed me out of my unit so I have to do all the paperwork over again... after all that the issue still isn’t fixed I still can’t swipe my card!! So I get done with everything and have about 10 mins to put all my stuff up on the second floor unit and I finally finish at 5 on the dot and I’m walking out and I was locked in! I wave down the employee and he laughs at us!! But he finally lets us out and tells us he locks up at 5 and we need to do the 24 hr access if we want to stay late but if it wasn’t for them screwing up my paperwork I would have been long and gone before 5... I am already looking at different storage sheds because of how awful my experience was in just one day! Something needs to be done here it is a Mess!!!Robert R. | First Impressions

I went looking for heated storage and the manager got me into a unit quickly. The prices are competitive, and when I went in they were running a "first month free" deal. That's pretty great. After getting me set up with a rental unit, the manager assisting me walked me over to the heated storage area and explained how and when to access the space. The place was clean and well-ordered. My unit was broken into and items were stolen. I purchased a new storage unit needed a larger one. My ex had set up my old one. When setting it up the GM said oh it insured. Come to find out my ex husband put it under the homeowners insurance when it was under his name a plan that no longer exist. The GM didn’t even ask me or look just set it up. Over 1k of electronics were stolen. Had no insurance. An alarm goes off there they shut it off. Employees don’t even bother to check to see if there’s any suspect behavior going on. My unit was broken into. Missing 3000 dollars worth of stuff. Pulled u it had a red lock on it. Guess they put that on for people who don’t pay. Well they apologized for the error. Opened it up all my TVs, cookware, kids toys were missing. All the boxes were torn through. Unit trashed. Food wrappers. Cigarette butts in there. So the staff was helpful, but nothing worked, the card scanner in the customer service area didn't work, so I had to do a pin, then I they took me outside to try the pin there, and the pad hadn't been clean in GOD knows how long. It too didn't work. So I am unsure if I will be able to move in to my storage shed after hours this weekend. Then you had the woman on the 800# who didn't know what she is talking about, who didn't mind taking my money and my info but couldn't issue me an unit. So instead of being on hold again, and getting the 800# I drove into town to get unit issues. All over I would say everything added up, not so good experience. If a local storage company had been open I would have gone to them, 1) cheaper 2)local 3)they seem to take care of their stuff, and have it together. But out of desperation from a water leak that made the ceiling fall into my old place, I have no choice but to use you guys! The staff member who set me up did not understand the computer system, it kept giving him errors so it took forever to check out. I set up automatic billing with him yet I got a notice in the mail stating I was late paying the first month so I had to call back to get it fixed and that took too long. The worst is finding out that you don’t pro-rate the rent so I paid for a full month but moved out early and you are now free to re-rent space 2222 and make money off of me and the new tenant for the same time period.
