The local retail Guilford UHaul store is very well run and I can't say enough good things about the staff. However the 2 encounters I had with corporate support staff over the the phone and via the chat app on the website were nothing short of disappointing. 30 minutes to speak to a live person on the phone who could ultimately offer no help is unacceptable.Bryan C.

Unfortunately I left my drivers license inside the location at pick up. After six hours of attempting to reach a live voice at the Guilford office I gave up. This included 5-6 phone calls which were forwarded to the central office as well as i was given the managers contact information which was invalid . No one answers the phone, there's no way to get in touch with a human voice at the Guilford office.It's is on call forward all day ,very frustrating and no response to an email as well! Fortunately I retrieve my license the following day but it certainly would've been nice to spoken to somebody confirming that it was in safe hands. Otherwise the U-Haul rental was perfectJOHN C.

The truck was on empty at pickup and had damage, it was supposed to have 1/4 tank. We picked the truck up the day everyone was panicking about gas and stations had none. We put gas in and returned the truck just under a half tank and we were told we wouldn't be reimbursed, That's absurd considering the circumstances. I would not recommend uhaul to anyone again, I've never had such a terrible experience. It's also really difficult to get an actual person Over the phone. I'll be reporting this to consumer protection.LARRY W.

I initially had difficulty because the hitch UHaul ordered for me, never arrived, even after a month! I ordered my hitch from ETrailer and it arrive five days later. I asked UHaul to install the hitch and they agreed to install it same day within five hours. The UHaul rep. who installed my hitch was a huge improvement over the previous UHaul reps. who never bothered to follow up on my hitch order through UHaul.Lisa J.

I had a terrible experience with uhaul. My pick up location was changed from a 24/7 location to a location that opened later than my reservation time and I was not told until waiting outside for hours. I did not have a say on where my location was changed to and had to drive extra in the opposite direction. Also got charged extra $20 for slight mileage difference that was from my location change. I would not recommend uhual to anyone locally.Andrew S.

Robert, at the Guilford store, was exceptionally helpful and a fantastic customer service representative. He made the rental takeout and return very easy. He helped us over the phone during the rental to address an issue with my own hitch that was rattling and recommended we install the anti-rattle pin. Uhaul even had it in stock. Despite multiple attempts to contact the manager several days before the scheduled appointment to confirm everything was in order for the installation, he did not respond and then left me a voicemail same day that there wasn't enough time to install the equipment which I did not get until I was well on my way for the appointment. When I got there he wasn't even there. And I tried to call back several times and was not able to get through to speak to anyone at the location. Extremely poor customer service. I would like a free installation at another location for the four hours I spent driving there for no reason.Rhonda M.

The actual automatic trailer hitch locking mechanism on the motorcycle trailer was TERRIBLE.! It never locked tight on the ball and there was a 1/2 inch of play up and down. I was charged for two days rental when I brought the van back at 5:30pm instead of 1:00pm. THIS IS NOT IN THE CONTRACT AND THEREFORE ILLEGAL BUT YOU DID IT ANYWAY I AM FILING IN SMALL CLAIMS COURT TO GET THIS ILLEGAL CHARGE RETURNED. i WAS ALSO CHARGED DOUBLE FOR THE DOLLY. Garren Keith and other associates were always ready to help when we asked. It appeared that Covid-19 protocols were observed by all staff members each time we visited. We used our storage locker as a temporary holding spot during our move from former to new residences in Guilford. The range of supplies available at the store gave us what we needed to protect belongings during the move. We'd certainly use the Guilford facility again when and if we needed it. We're also glad that UHaul found a way to fully utilize the former automobile dealer facility, thereby avoiding further community and zoning controversy that erupted when initial plans for a multi-story building resulted in local neighborhood resistance. Simple rental/check-in process. Location was clean and staffed with helpful people. Check-out was straight forward with no surprises. Would absolutely recommend the Guilford, CT U-Haul location for secure/convenient storage. Best of luck with the expansion...Guilford needs more personal/business services for residents. I Didn’t answer question number 3 because the facility was under renovation-therefore much activity and noise- all for a good purpose. Overall a good experience with the manager being well informed and helpful. I certainly would recommend your facility to my friends. The one thing I was vexed about was having to provide a backup name that had a different address than mine. I was planning to use my wife as a backup person. I was told that wasn’t possible because a couple had done that and they both died at the same time so there was no one to notify ,presumably when the monthly bill was not paid. It seems that the probability of simultaneous or near simultaneous deaths of a renter and his wife is quite low and therefore there shouldn’t be that requirement of a different address.William J. | First Impressions
