I would like to suggest that when you quote a price the person giving the information make sure to give all the pertinent information. My be $19.99 trailer ended up being $78.00 with fees and insurance !!!Betty Jo R.
The good: The store was clean, organized and trucks clean. The bad: Not getting the truck I reserved despite there being 5 plus there on site that we could see. I made the reservation (have screenshots and all records and info) for a 10 foot truck. We only had budgeted for that truck as we were only transporting a few small items. Furthermore, we only had budgeted for a small truck gas wise given the crazy gas prices as well as driving comfort. We were really, and I mean really, nervous about driving a large truck that's why we made our reservation 1 week in advance for one. This has caused us so much anxiety, distress and physical stress that was completely able to be avoided. Furthermore, I uploaded, correctly, every single document asked by Uhaul. Answered every text and call from them verifying the 10 foot truck. I spoke on the phone verifying the pick up, showed up in time for our appointment, and all procedures set by Uhaul that guaranteed out reserved truck. We were told all is good. When we got there, the check in procedure was straightforward and easy. Again, because I had done all the work before hand. Then, the manager, leads us to a huge 15 plus foot truck! We were shocked. Beyond shocked. There must be a mistake. I literally started shaking and worrying about driving a large truck. I asked the manager politely that this is NOT the truck I had reserved. She said: sorry no other option. We could visibly see 5 plus more smaller trucks on the lot as well as vans. I had made a reservation for one 10 foot truck 1 week I advance!! The manager was unhelpful with the situation completely. I asked her why can't we rent a smaller truck that was promised by Uhaul in our agreement and her answer was â€œthey are reservedâ€. And what did we have in hand?! I don't understand how that is even plausible. We are correct, hardworking, honest people and expect the same from a company. No explanation was given to us why we could not get what we had reserved so far in advance. She, the manager, told us they were just â€œreservedâ€ for other people. We had no other choice and had to take the truck. We are beyond upset as this embarrassing situation from Uhaul which cost us lots more money in gas and lots of stress about driving a bigger truck. This is not correct nor fair to your customers. If you don't have a truck that the customer needs it's fair to tell them that you don't have one that day and can't reserve it for your customers. Then customers can make other plans. It's poor practice to promise then switch the bait. We're in 2021 and customers deserve better and honest treatment from large companies like yours. We have very bitter taste in our moth from this experience. And the fault, is completely and totally with your business practices.Edison H.
Mechanically, the van ran very well; van was very clean inside the cab and also inside the box. But, minor maintenance could have been a little better....very squeaky creaky doors which was kind of an annoyance. But other than that...excellent experience. the trailer we were given this times did not like at all. compared to the one used last week which had a new style hitch and rode very smoothly, this one sent a pain in my spine every time we hit a bump on the road, which Michgan roads have many. the rolltop door also not as nice either, when the door is open unless you are 5' tall one keeps bumping head on it. it also was hard to root down as the for had a catch in it so we returned it with the door open.THEODORE JOSEPH T.

The trailer was not set with hooks for tow straps, the hitch raddled a lot. I asked to purchase a dolly and instead of charging me for the purchase, he gave an orange dolly which i assumed was mine. Turns out i was charged for a rental instead and when i returned it Day Paxton asked me to return the dolly because "those where not supposed to be sold" and asked me to return, I had to go home and come back which turned into an hour drive. I wish they would have owned the mistake and just sold me the product as i requested.Luis R.

The first truck had a low tire error and the representative went through an examination of the tire and found a bad valve stem. I was extremely lucky that he found this as I was taking the truck on a 700 mile drive. We swapped out the truck and it was trouble free after that. Excellent service.Jack L.

Highly recommend removing the U-Haul store on 840 N Black River Dr, #70 in Holland, MI. I was under the impression when I selected this location (to save money on miles) and there was no message that this location had closed down. We arrived at 9:30 to this location and found construction workers tearing the building up for a remodel. We drove to the Lakewood Blvd location and they told us they had the reservation in their system, but it could have saved us 30 minutes and anxiety of waiting if the Black River option had been removed or not available for selection. Even as I check that location now, it says they "open at 9AM Sat." Obviously this will not happen. I was very appreciative that the representative at the Lakewood store gave us a $10 credit for the extra trouble. I'm grateful they had the truck available that we reserved. We asked for newer truck since we were moving 12 hour driving distance they assured it will only have a few ten thousand miles but we got a truck with close to three hundred miles. Tires looked very worn so we asked a different one. Also they were charging me 700 dollars more than my original reservation and it took whole hour to pick up the truck because they had to re write the reservation i was very frustrated.Changho K.

Equipment was clean; however, the past two trailers rented had side marker lights out. Also the facility is Short Staffed. Employees are friendly and professional trying to do their best; however, wait times can be very long and frustrating. PLEASE purchase at least one DEDICATED hand cart for Building A. It's not that much of an investment.. Having to constantly borrow a hand cart from Building B is such an inconvience so I won't bother to return "borrowed" hand carts until this deficiency is corrected by management. Truck was the loudest and most uncomfortable I have ever used. Not nearly as nice as Budget or Penske. Seals around doors not secure, so LOUD wind noise irritating to listen to. Had to actually open window a little ways to tolerate the sound. This of course caused worse gas mileage. In addition, U-haul has a scam with the "returning the gas gauge to the same spot." (Instead of having it filled - and filling upon return). U-haul has a deceptive policy of " put the gauge to the same space as you received it. However - when you fill the tank with the power on (you cannot leave the truck running while you fill the tank with gas) - they conveniently have the gauge run $10-15 under the actual meter, so when you "refill the tank to the same place", you actually fill it at least $10-15 OVER what u-haul gives you. It is a total scam. I despise this type of business. I never had this horrible experience with Penske or Budget Truck Rental. U-Haul could care less that they ripped me off. They told me that 3 people had complained of the same thing THE SAME DAY, but of course, they gave no refund - even though I put $13+ extra in their gas tank.MICHAELPERRY M.

We rented a storage unit for a few months while we had some working going on at home. We wanted a climate controlled unit that would not get mice or bugs. The U-Haul unit met our needs. The unit was clean and in good condition. We put a few sticky traps inside just in case something got in. The man that served me was rude. First impressions, I turn up with a truck after just moving out of Chicago , tired , my truck rolled into the grass slightly. I walk inside and he Dosent even greet me and just says “is that your truck on my grass , you best move it”. I then asked if there is a storage shed close to the door , he says no and puts me in one that all the way at the end, just to make it difficult. The screen said there were heaps available. I was supposed to get the first month free and when I said I am supposed to get the first month free he says “I don’t see any record” and I said I’ll just bring the email up and then he says “too late I’ve already charged you and I don’t know how to reverse it” ! I’m stunned at his rudeness. Then when he gives me a security code to enter the facility we go to test it and it fails then we try again and fails. The he said oh well and walks away. I said excuse me , what am I supposed to do, he said oh the system is down. I said well I need a security code that works and he said it’s fine you can just put up with the annoying sound. I reserved a unit several weeks before my move. Then, while in the middle of a stressful move, I received several phone calls from U-Haul warning me that my unit was available to be rented online and if I did not rent it, I might lose it. This caused me a lot of stress and it seems U-Haul needs to fix its reservation system. If I have reserved a unit, it should not be available for any random person online to rent. The check-in/check-out system is unreliable. The alarm frequently sounds when people open their units. It happens so often that no one thinks it odd. The after hours access also does not work, so our access was limited to when the store was open. We had our unit on auto-pay for convenience. One time I tried to access my unit, but there was a second lock on it for not paying. Of course I was furious. When I went into the store, they said they had no idea how to contact me, that they had "peeked over the wall and saw the unit was empty" (which was a completely lie - it was not empty until we just vacated it yesterday), and that we had not paid. We filled out a lot of paperwork with secondary contact information when we rented the unit, so nothing they said made sense. This is an indication that they made some kind of major mistake and then tried to blame us. I never felt like my belongings were secure there or that I could access my unit at will as they advertise. Based on our experiences with this facility, I do not trust them at all and would never recommend them. We are thrilled to be out of there.Michelle L. | Overall Experience

I had a lot of problems accessing my unit. The key card/access code system often did not work - especially in cold weather. This meant that I could only access my unit during open hours. Even when the key card/access code system appeared to work, the alarm often sounded when I opened my door. While I was there, I observed it happening to other customers too. In fact, it happened so much that no one flinched when the alarm went off because it was so common. I had a lot of frustration with not being able to pay my account in advance. I tried to do this online and in person, but the system will not allow it.
