I was disappointed to see a giant poster in the store telling employees "never sign an [Union] authorization card or petition" and "Just say 'no' to union organizers." Even worse, it misrepresents federal labor law by saying that you lose your right to a secret ballot if you sign the card, which is erroneous. Federal law provides that if the employer refuses to recognize the union voluntarily, then a secret ballot election proceeds. It even provides an 800 number to call to report on other employees activities and suggests monetary rewards for making such reports. This is legally questionnable. The Holyoke City Council honored former AFL CIO President John Sweeney for the St Patricks Day and declared Holyoke a "union" city. That message did not translate to this place of employment. I really urge U Haul to take down these anti union messages.Richard M.

This experience with UHaul was the worst imaginable and I will never use nor recommend UHaul again. I reserved a 20 ft truck six weeks ahead to ensure availability and was lead to believe I could pick it up early morning at a location 20 minutes from my house. 2 days prior I get the call that the truck will be ready at 11am at a location 50 minutes from my house. The caller was emotionless and completely non-empathetic to the inconvenience this change caused. I then made arrangements to get a ride to the designated location, showed up before 11am to get paperwork completed and was informed that the truck wouldn't be ready until 4pm and that I had been called, with a message left. I had no message and no missed call on my phone. When I pressed for a solution, the manager/owner gave me a 15ft truck instead and was able to discount the rental $200. Because I was going to 2 different locations in Columbus, Ohio, I wasn't sure where I would be dropping off the truck so I was told to call the 800 number and make that arrangement after arrival. However, on my drive home I received a text to return the truck to a specific location in Dublin, Ohio. The truck itself was fine and I was fortunately able to get all my gear into it. The drive overnight was unremarkable. We offloaded the next day and and I called the 800 number to give them the address closest for my return. That person initially insisted it had to be returned to the Dublin address but, after some anger on my part, acquiesced and changed the return to the Bethel Rd address. I returned the truck just before 5pm with all the gear (appliance dolly, furniture dolly, and folded blankets). The person at the return was the most pleasant and helpful UHaul employee I encountered. On the following Monday, I received a call from UHaul wondering if I was expecting any delay returning the truck to the Bethel Rd location. I responded no, since I had returned it 3 days prior! The following day, the woman at the Bethel Rd location called telling me she didn't see the appliance dolly in the back of the truck. Fortunately I had taken pictures in case I had to return the truck after hours, showing it was there when I left the truck. The truck lot is probably 1/4 mile from the office and she stated that sometimes this happens. I took that to imply that because it's so far away, things get stolenâ€¦oh well. I received my invoice today and there's a line about a missing equipment charge. I checked my credit card statement and do not see any additional charge (yet) but I will contest that if it shows up. Communications are the root of all customer service problems and UHaul's communications were atrocious. I don't get angry very often but your team managed to rile me up to the point of profanity. Thank you for the opportunity to share my experience and I hope this can be helpful.robert B.

Made a reservation the day before because I knew I was moving and needed a truck for 8hrs and was harassed before the last hour by them calling my phone asking if I was done yet because someone was in need of a moving truck. When it actually came time to bring the truck back no one was rushing me and took long to tend to me instead. Next time, just send people elsewhere instead of calling paying customers back to back asking when they will be done.Sophia G.

I can't think of anything. The location is less than 10 minutes from my home, there was no waiting and I was able to drop off the truck after hours. I wish I'd used them for the first part of my move but I used penske instead. The penske truck had the same space but the bed was way higher and it cost 4 times as much!Gregory S.

My experience with Uhaul was overall horrible. I made a reservation for a location that was closed (shouldn't be allowed) then my reservation was changed without my approval or confirmation and never told to me. to a place 1.5 hours away from my initial reservation. I requested holyoke and had a GREAT experience with the woman working there. but on the phone to transfer to the location the man on the phone was super rude and told me that they sent me an email (which is not enough and a lie) I can look up u-haul in my email and had no such email. COMPLETELY ruined my already hard moving day - will probably go to penske from now on.Yasmin P.

The Holyoke operation is very well run. The staff is friendly, helpful and hard working. The question about the equipment condition should be broken in two, one for cleanliness and one for maintenance. I rented a 26' truck. It was very clean. The steering was fine, the brakes were good, but the suspension was bad, probably worn out shocks, maybe more. It made a loud buzzing when the brake peddle was depressed without the engine running but the operating instructions didn't cover the meaning of that sound. If it was pressurizing the brake system, it might not be working because it keeps making that sound until the engine starts. There were no instructions for setting the hand brake.Scott R.

The third floor, where my two units are located are extremely hot. I am concerned that the heat will adversely affect my artwork and furniture stored there. Online booking was not as clear as it could have been. Better photos explaining the difference between the split level and “upper level” storage (including the need for the moveable metal stair rails) would have been beneficial. However, Ashley’s thorough assistance with my needs and desires was exemplary. The public bathroom in the bigger building needed more attention. It almost never had toilet paper or paper towels and usually needed more care. The facility is infested with cockroaches. I went to my storage unit to bring my personal belongings and i saw several large cockroaches in the unit and on the hall floors. There are small black boxes for pest control in every unit but it does not control the problem. I was afraid to place my belongings in the unit since I knew when I moved my boxes, I would probably bring them with me inadvertently to my new home. Other than that the facility was well organized.
