Your second building where I got my unit now has access code issues. Also does not feel safe and bathrooms don’t work there. Hope those are temporary problems and you fix them.

People helping us check were very helpful and friendly. All went well for our reservation. My only negative comment is about our return. We stood outside ( it was cold) and waited as sign directed us to do. Guy who was out there never said a word. I did hand him the key as he went to look for it. He never said anything so we just kept waiting for him to say all set go ahead. Nothing. My husband finally asked when we were able to catch him. Tell employees to address people waiting?!!

I thought I picked it up and it was 1/3 full and that's how I returned it, but apparently it was 3/8ths full when I picked it up. I wish the associate would have said something because I would have gladly driven the truck back to the gas station a block away and put a few more dollars of gas in. I filled the truck with gas right before I dropped it off but apparently it wasn't enough. It's unfortunate that a company like this has to nickel and dime the customer for 1/8th of a tank of gas.

David WaterhouseI had to purchase a new ball mount and ball since I had forgotten mine back in Ohio. The man who hookup our trailer didn't do it correctly. Bottomed out every time we hit a small bump in the road. Fortunately a friend had the right tools to correct the situation. We had to reverse the mount and ball so the trailer would sit level instead of downward towards my vehicle. The chains were also dragging on the ground as soon as we put one box in the trailer. This would not have been a pleasant ride home all 320 miles of it if we hadn't realized how bad the situation was.

My moving helpers and I had to carry everything down 4 flights of stairs and I was not able to move a large marble table because I thought it would be too dangerous. I know elevators break but if it’s been having issues for a week, they should had someone go and fix it.

It feels like a blatant omission in order to extract an extra $30 from the customer and I think it’s very shady and non-transparent. I do not appreciate hidden fees and being set up so obviously to incur them.

Bruce Miles1. I initially booked a truck at Shell Grand station - the clerk at the station had no idea what was going on. It was impossible to get a hold of anyone or any instructions how to get a key to a truck. He insisted that I provide a truck number, which couldn't be found anywhere. 2. We ended up at a different location. This location is generally great and the young kid working there is very nice and helpful, but the older guy was extremely rude. The seat in the truck was broken that I couldn't pull closer to reach the pedal. I am a small 5'3'' woman (yes, women drive cars, it's 2024, make sure your cars are drivable by women), so I had to sit forward the whole time barely reaching the pedals. You're lucky I wasn't involved in an accident - that would have been a fun lawsuit. The mirrors were broken too.

DONITA LESTERThe bar is pretty low for Uhaul places and we like this location because they've alwasy had the truck we rented ready for us. In this case they didn't have the wardrobe boxes we paid for, or at least they were not given to my son when he picked up the truck and told them I paid for 3 wardrobes. He assumed they must be in the truck because the gentleman at the front desk shrugged and didn't go get them. They were not in the truck, which prolongoed our move in that we needed to use a car to transport clothes and keep them from getting dirty in the truck. The location is dependable but if you purchases materials you'll need to call to confirm they have them and are going to provide them, as the process is flawed or at least not clear to all employees and renters.

In person, Martin was rude to me after a mistake was made by a different manager, as he tried to blame me for it. Even after he was the one to move me out of my storage unit, two days later he sent email saying I would be charged. I called and told them I had moved out, Martin helped, and that I should not be charged. Two weeks later they took $100 from the. Had to fight to get the money back. The woman on the phone told me that the storage unit would be $99 and it would fit everything that would be in my small UHaul truck. When my movers and I got there to the UHaul on Fullerton Ave in Chicago the storage unit didn’t fit all of my stuff which I was told it would by UHaul. I went into the office and they told me the next bigger unit would be $134. I was livid. I was told everything on the truck would fit into $99 unit. U-Haul lied!! I had to sign another contract for $134 a month. Also, I had to pay the movers more money because my two hour window flew by while I was talking to UHaul staff and trying to fix the issue. I was budgeting $99 a month for the storage unit from UHaul not $134. My movers finally got me into the bigger storage unit. I had to pay them double what they quoted me because of UHaul giving me incorrect info. This past week when I called UHaul on Fullerton Ave from Florida telling them I would have movers taking my stuff out of storage on Dec 17, yesterday. And my friend would be there to assist the movers and take them to my unit - Martin Mueller didn’t bother to tell me to mail the keys of my lock of my unit to my friend. Martin was the one who I also talked to 2 years ago and did nothing about UHaul giving me a smaller unit when they told me all would fit in my unit from the small UHaul truck. Also I called last week and spoke to a person called Chris and asked him if I needed to mail my friend the black UHaul card and he said no. Chris said she was on my contract and she could have access to my storage unit. He didn’t mention to give my friend the keys for the lock. Chris or Martin should have reminded me that I purchased a special lock from UHaul 2 1/2 years ago and my friend would need the keys. They knew I was calling from Florida and not Chicago. Low and behold on Saturday Dec 17, from Florida I had to call a locksmith in Chicago to quickly come to UHaul and break the lock. I was livid again that uhaul was not helpful. My experience has been AWFUL to say the least. I spent thousands of dollars I should have NOT spent in the last 2 1/2 years. Between my monthly unit cost which was given to me incorrectly by UHaul, moving company that had to be on the UHaul facilities waiting on UHaul to resolve issues and a locksmith because U-Haul didn’t bother to remind me that a special lock was put on the unit. It has been a nightmare dealing with UHaul. I have wasted money, precious time and had a lot of headaches with UHaul. Sandy 312 342 5155

We had to go through several randomly parked trucks across the whole lot, carrying really heavy furniture and boxes and that made the whole process super inconvenient and rough.

John McCormick | First ImpressionsThe people were very helpful and hard working - no complaints about staff, although i could tell they have a lot to deal with in terms of the physical layout of this location. The customer evening access hours are too restrictive - 8pm is very inconvenient to deny access for loading or unloading. Most storage places allow at least til 9 or even til 11pm. Pleas reconsider these hours. Great availability of carts, smooth elevator and clear map and markings of storage units. However, the whole layout of the office - loading - drop off area is a nightmare. The building overall is very dirty (especially compared to most storage units) but my storage unit is gross! There are splatters of I-dont'-know-what on the wall, a giant rat trap in the corner by a wall of dirty chipped and flaking brick and paint. Your company needs to clean, repair, de-bug and repaint when a unit is emptied out - seriously. Most of that is basic maintenance. If there is a larger rat or mouse problem I'm sure that being addressed but how bad is it that there is a trap IN my unit? I'm concerned that there maybe rats or mice in my stuff while using this unit. I did not have time to address this with staff before I left town for the month. I didn't think i was going to have to take time to address such issues. I've rented vehicles form Uhaul several times over the years and have been happy with that service but I have to say if this is how your storage facilities are I am not inclined to use them again if even the basic cleanliness and appearance does not improve.

The only critique is for the maps inside the storage units. He was kind of rude and only confused and made it harder to think about what I needed in the store. He insisted a queen sized bed would not fit in a 5x10x4 space but lo and behold it did! Same with all my extra large boxes that I stacked on top of each other. I think it was just a bad day but if I come into contact with that sort of behavior again, it'll just make my storage experience even more miserable than it already is. Everything was clean and well maintained. The temperature was just fine too.

And for the inside, I was in the second floor and then had to walk up stairs to get to my space. It was a rough moving day for me. The location convenience was good, and employees were great, but it's too small for what you all are trying to accommodate. Also, I considered adding another storage unit because I thought all of my stuff would not fit, but the online process was difficult. I had to set up another profile and do the process all over. Then, there was no guarantee I would have another unit nearby or in the same side of the building. I was so stressed.

This was completely unlike what the online description was. I would have never chosen this. The facility has horrible flooring so the carts bounce. I watched someone else moving into a storage unit have their glassware fall off their cart and shatter. Absolutely worst storage experience of my life. Would not recommend.

I am older and dealing with mobility issues. I wanted the biggest unit that was easy to access and without stairs or difficult corners. He refused to try and help me until I told him how much space I needed, I repeated my requirements. He showed me the location of a couple on the map that were very difficult to access. Another employee overheard the conversation and suggested a unit that was large and very easy to access. He continued to check me in for my vehicle and was increasingly rude. All other employees of the facility were lovely, helpful, kind and cheerful.

No one ever told us what the "right" lock was, but it seems like it was just a ploy on UHaul's end to steal more money from customers. I mean seriously, if I put a lock from a different storage company on my unit and I'm happy with that why do I need to buy one of your locks??

The Uhaul customers service on the phone said a split would work & assigned me a unit. When I called to confirm reservation a different representative said I probably need a bigger one but did not tell me that in order to put items into it you had to go up 4 stairs to a landing & then lift stuff into unit. This was extremely hard & inconvenient for 2 petite girls in college. So the person at the actual facility gave them the option of getting a 2nd unit that was smaller to put their boxes in where they could manage it themselves because they didn’t have to go up stairs with them. The movers are going to put the 4 pieces of furniture in the bigger one which will have room left over. All other units were unavailable. So basically they have no other choice at this point but to spend extra money which they themselves did not have & rent 2 storage units when in actuality they only needed 1 large unit. Had it not been for the customer service person who gave me inadequate information on which unit to rent & did not tell me they would have to physically carry stuff up stairs, I could have gotten a large unit when I made the initial reservation. I even asked “Is there an elevator” she said yes. But failed to say that they would still have stairs to go up. I am out of state so I had to trust the customer service rep on the phone with the information she gave me. I am angry that we have to pay for 2 units when all we needed was one & I did call in enough advance time to have gotten just one. This is a huge inconvenience & waste of money that the girls did not have that they are now going to have to pay their parents back for.
Sonya Ross | First ImpressionsThe staff member who helped show me to my unit was helpful, but the employee working the register/in the office was clearly way overwhelmed. She was the only person working, and was taking about 20 minutes+ per/customer. I waited in line (with only one person in front of me) for about 40 minutes just to get shown my unit and get the keys. I had to pay my movers another $200 to wait for an hour because she took so long with each customer. On top of all of that, when I came back to uhaul later that day, my access card didn't even work- hadn't even been an hour since I received it/activated it. Overall it was a horrible experience and very unorganized. There needed to be more staff members working, and the ones who were working need to have a sense of urgency and efficiency, to understand people may not have all day to wait for them to finish chit chatting with the customers while there is a long line of customers waiting. I understand being understaffed, but this was just very poor experience.

That being said, we reserved a truck 2 days before we needed it and it was on a very very busy moving weekend. When trying to re-book, we were on hold for at least 20 minutes each time we called. Positive: We drove back to Chicago during the riots and we were unable to put our stuff in the storage unit bc of the riots. They let us keep the truck an extra night and were very helpful and friendly along the way!
