The branch manager on the 7:00 shift was awful. She refused to tell me her name because of how bad she was. She lied multiple times while I was there. She charged me $50 for driving 2 miles and then would not let me see odometer after I had proof of the gas gauge when I left was incorrect in the contract. She needs to be let go immediately. Train your customer reps to be more customer friendly and less figure it out yourself. Being rude to an unhappy customer is not the best way to change the vibe. Patience will go a long way to helping a customer understand that you don't quite understand the new way of doing things also. Try to help customers understand the new way of doing things instead of aggressively saying follow the instructions. Not everyone is technically inclined or is capable of "following the instructions" like most people. Also have the location match the instructions. "Go straight to boars and take keys" will get you yelled at. And so will "Return keys to key shoot". Same venue 1st time amazing check out and return. 2nd time a total nightmare. After years of using uhaul I am permanently turned off. Never again. I'm going to buy my own truck so I won't feel like I was made to feel yesterday. I was not the only unhappy customer yesterday. Another customer and I were both like deer in the headlights trying to follow the instructions that did not match the facility rules. It was a learning experience. Time to get my own truck. The entire storage facility was hot and humid like a sauna. My unit was on the upper level 4th floor. I didn't know that this would mean I had to access a heavy ladder just to put my items in the unit. I'm very disappointed with this situation. I had 4 guys who put my items in the unit. I was fearful they would pass out due to the unsafe conditions presented. I would like to speak with a manager or the owner about this as well as request changing my unit to a lower level. Did you attender needs more help learning the computer system. The new attendant need help learning about the computer system. but it's understandable! outside of the office the guy didn't know what he was doing, He wasn't dressed as a U-Haul professional, he didn't know how to connect the trailer and he Called a girl to help him. They where really confused and they had to FaceTime somebody else to teach them (three chains and one wire) but they didn't hear what I said. he said my truck light was broke, because he didn't connected the wire correctly. This experience truly wasn't great at all. I've used uhaul many times for all of my moves (this was my 4th) and the worst organized. This new system that you guys have is horrible. HORRIBLE. When I get there to finally get my uhaul, I have to do everything online which wouldn't be bad except you guys have us do verification measures....while we're there to pick up the uhaul versus before. Incredibly stupid and annoying/inconvenient for the customer. Horrible system flaw. THEN I've put in the verification details, waiting for a rep to call my contact to....verify who I am? Again, stupid and was never previously used. I don't see the point. I'm waiting for the rep to call the contact, so again, I'm waiting. Then she finally verifies who I am. I go to get the key from the lock boxes. Those locks are horrible and not easy to use. I FINALLY get this stupid truck and my supplies weren't in the back. The back of the uhaul is open with no supplies....I ordered a dolly and blankets. Again, never have I ever reserved a uhaul and not had my supplies already in the truck. So then I need to go back into the store to get them and wait some more. Please improve your system. Its horrible and time consuming when people are clearly trying to move and on a schedule. The trick mirror on the right side would not stay where you put it so had to pull over just to fix the mirror. There were used tissue in the cupholder and burn marks from cigarette burns on the ceiling. Returned a day early and didn't get any kind of refund..Diane Z.

The counter person who checked us in, had the worst customer service skills we have ever encountered renting with Uhaul: She was confrontational, demanding, unhelpful, and extremely rude. This person complained about not wanting to be there and made every attempted at pushing us to walk out of the facility. She needs to be trained properly at helping customers, and/or should not be working with customers at the front desk.Erica M.

The location staff in New Jersey tried their best. But our experience with U Haul in general was terrible. We made a reservation 2.5 months in advance but could not get confirmation of availability until 48 hours before. Is it that much harder than a rental car which you can confirm months before? You require everything to be done by the app. Cell coverage is poor at this location. Every time we used the app we would randomly get different screens. Then the people on site could solve nothing. "Call the 1-800 number", then wait on hold for 15 min and they sent a link. By the time I could get through the app and the poor coverage the links expired. Or it said "UHaul.com cannot handle this request at the moment". It took almost 2 hours to check out our truck. Everything was so painful. Next time we will not use U Haul if at all possible.Janet S.

As a person who is under a lot of stress, working excessive hours, etc, with no days off in a while,...I really didn't want to hear the employee complaining about being tired and hung over. The staff at this facility were really friendly and helpful. Free carts were provided to help with moving items to the storage facility. The only downside was that the fourth floor was extremely hot, which made moving in a little strenuous. The manager at the uhaul lotcation in Newark 370 orange st. She is very unprofessional no smile on her face or anything she makes you feel uncomfortable and don’t want to do business at that location, the other staff members there are great! They are helpful! They talk to you with respect and etc! But the Storage unit are very clean , the bathroom was very clean! It’s just very hot in there during the summer time. Make locker versus storage identification more visible on website. I got a locker while I needed a storage and they were all out of the storage lockers in the size I required. SCHEDULED A ONE WAY UHAUL A WEEK IN ADVANCE OF MY MOVE.... THEY CHANGED IT WITHOUT MY AUTHORIZATION TO A ROUND TRIP THE DAY BEFORE.... ALTHOUGH I WAS NOTIFIED VIA TEXT OF THIS ( DIDNT SEE IT)..WHEN I PHYSICALLY CAME TO GET THE TRUCK IT WAS STILL BEING REFERRED TO AS A ONE WAY BY CUSTOMER SERVICE....AND THEY TOLD ME I COULD DROP OFF AT ANY LOCATION... AFTER MOVING MY STUFF I ATTEMPTED TO DROP OFF THE TRUCK THE FOLLOWING DAY AT A LOCAL UHAUL LOCATED 45 MIN AWAY IN SOUTH NJ.....THEY TOLD ME I HAD TO CALL TO CHANGE THE PAPERWORK TO A ONE WAY....I CALLED THIS LOCATION AND THEY TOLD ME I HAD TO RETURN THE TRUCK TO THIS LOCATION...OTHERWISE THERE WOULD BE A $500 FINE....AND THAT I SHOULD HAVE "CHECKED THE PAPERWORK"...( CLEARLY THEIR ERROR )..... The storage room hours are not convenient for people who work 9-5 Jobs, Monday-Friday, given traffic time. I always have to wait until an early Saturday mooring to retrieve my items. You have a really awesome employee by the name of Rasheed, I believe I got the name right. He is worthy of a raise and trust me, I am not being paid to write this. He helped me every single time I moved my items, in/out of the storage room, if he was available to do so. My storage room was very dark on the inside and I found droppings on my boxes when I was moving out, so I know there were rodents roaming around my belongings Also, someone had some oil that dripped from their storage space into my space which could be the cause of that problem. The location is convenient and you have 3 good employees I've interacted with, unfortunately, I can only remember one person's name, because of how helpful he was.Melissa R. | Overall Experience

I had no boxes just all tubs no food of any sort in my storage only clothes bedding lining and shoes. But yet I found mice droppings everywhere on all my tubs and that was disgusting 🤮. The gentleman at the counter was very nice and accommodating. My only problem was that I called an hour before my arrival to be sure that the unit was ready (late afternoon 2:30pm) I was assured that it was ready. When I arrived the unit wasn’t ready yet. The assoc stated that he had to clean it out. He gave me my key and asked me to wait. I walked to the unit with a piece of furniture, the unit door was open, & the unit was lined with glue traps along all four walls and a live mouse on the trap. This was completely unacceptable. This should have been addressed before my arrival and before handing me my unit card. The assoc was there alone with a line of people.
