The staff was very dismissive. My rental was done improperly during check out because the staff repeatedly sent me back and forth between the outside and inside locations with no communication between them. When I returned my rental after only an hour I was going to be charged for 10,000 miles. When I tried to go to the front to notify them, they repeatedly told me to go outside and wait despite the fact that my phone was on low battery and my entire reservation was on it. There was one young woman who came outside and worked through the issue with me. She was the saving grace of that location.Nick M.

Took 45min to get a vehicle because the remote team's approval process hadn't updated to Real ID and thought my license was fake. I tried to get the onsite team to work with me, but they wouldn't until I got a remote support person on the phone to callâ€”and then someone came out and told them to take care of me via the computer. The online registration set up is quite efficient. The only thing that would make it complete is to rethink the descriptions of the various types of spaces. The whole “upper level” phrasing is confusing and makes no sense even when i had it explained to me. THe onboarding process was laborious and temperamental. The boxes with combos for getting truck keys did not work, very temperamental. When dropoff occurs, we need more clairty on where to drop the keys.Michael W.
When I arrived, there were 2 staff members at the check-out and one staff member at the front of the line telling folks they needed to get their truck via Truck Share on the website only. Since I had selected counter pick-up on the website, I asked if I could instead work with one of the staff members at check-out who didn't have customers. The person in line said that wouldn't be an option and I asked to see that in writing and she went to the back to get a manager. Another staff member came out and offered to help me at the desk, though the key for the truck was already in the lock boxes outside, so it couldn't have been completed inside anyhow. You should remove the option for counter check-out on your website so people know ahead of time they will only be able to check out using truck share. And more signage saying there's been a change or understanding staff members who get that people signed up for one thing and are being forced to do something they don't want to do.NICHOLASTUTOR R.
Everyone at U-Haul is nice but completely incompetent. No one knows how to do their job. Everyone gives different answers. We were told our u-box could be dropped off at our new home. Then we were told this location doesn't do that. We made an appointment over 24 hours in advance to access our ubox. It wasn't ready when we arrived. Later, when we tried to schedule a drop off of our items to our new place, no one could help us. They just told us to go to u-hauls site to find a company that will pick up the ubox and then drop it back off. Why doesn't Uhaul provide this at all locations? Park Slope can manage to hold onto hundred of boxes but they don't offer a drop off and pick up? I have to find a third party company to do that? The U-haul website wasn't even helpful, as the movers they had listed, DIDN'T EVEN PROVIDE THEIR OWN MOVING VEHICLES. What is this scam? This is the cheapest option for a real reason, You save some money for the cost of a giant headache. I accidentally requested a second ubox drop off online (I thought I was requesting my original box to be dropped off) and when I realized my mistake I called the company to ask them to cancel it. I called 4 times, and talked to 4 people over the course of a few days to have it cancelled. Why did it take 4 times? What did the first 3 people do when they said they cancelled it but didnt? I was told it was cancelled and then I'd receive updates about the upcoming drop off. And finally, we hired Sweet Lou Moves You - HIGHLY RECOMMEND - to come pick up our items at uhaul to drive them to our new place - the uhaul people said we cancelled our reservation to access the ubox. I never leave reviews, but this experience takes the cake. If you can afford to spend a bit more money to make your cross country move easier, do it. We moved from Los Angeles and it's been a headache every step of the way. Their only positive is that they are half the price of every other company. But it comes at a cost for your sanity.Caitlin S.

Really poor instructions and way too many steps to do on your phone when picking up. At one point you even have to leave the office and wander around the parking lot to look for your truck before you can proceed. Staff was not helpful. Renting a car is so much simpler. Instead of waiting on one person at a time, one of the women was trying to wait on everyone at the same time and it caused a huge mess. Despite whether it be a key pickup only or not, those people still needed equipment and stuff so they basically were just cutting the line but then to balance it the one woman tried to wait on all of us at once to scan the code but then it was just a bunch of people who needed help at once. The equipment was totally fine at this location. However, the customer service experience was extremely horrible. As I retrieve my key from the counter, I want to walk out the side door where another customer just walked out of (which was a white customer) had literally just walked out of that same door where the janitor actually held the door for that customer. As I approach the door to walk out that janitor close the door on me and forced me to walk around to another door! This is truly unacceptable! I spent an extra 25 minutes - that I didn't have - in the morning signing in to my phone to complete my pickup. THIS IS NOT AN IMPROVEMENT! It sucked! I already had a reservation and had "checked in" on line before I got there. I STILL had deal with my phone getting on line, signing in, filling out info, turning my camera on, scanning bar codes etc. ENOUGH! The last I want to do on a work/moving day is extra crap like that! This sort of thing is what goes under the heading of "Damaged by improvements" It doesn't help AT ALL! I was ready to pull my hair out before getting behind the wheel. And I don't appreciate having it "spun" as if it's a "feature." Your staff is very nice and good and helpful. Why don't you just let them do their job like they used to before this cooperate policy went into place? You don't pay me to do their work. Actual rental experience is a complete disaster. This thing U-Haul has going with their App/website is too much to expect the average customer to do. Moving and driving in the city is stressful enough without the added burden of technology management. I don't have this problem with Enterprise. Once my documents are in place with them things just move along. With U-Haul every time I visit the process is different and I am told I am doing it incorrectly. It must be impossible to retain employees at that location. Everyone was yelling at them because the process was so confusing. That is no way to start the day. Why must the customer have such an experience when the process is clearly designed to limit customer employee interaction? As a consumer I need an account that is verified with U-Haul so I don't have to spend an hour collecting a van using an online interface purported to save time. Save my license and photo and payment information on my account. Otherwise U-Haul is doing great, the return is not too difficult though there is no way to use the app to return the vehicle ??? While the online check in process is very fast, it would be much more helpful if there were descriptions of the room made clear throughout the check out process, even on the final order page. I did not catch that there would be a structural column in the middle of my unit and there was no photo of what that meant and what it would look like. When I began to move my furniture into the unit, I realized my sofa was not going to fit around the column and I had to go to customer service to change my unit. I didn't realize we booked a unit that required ladder access and there's a heavy couch. The page that lists all the options and sizes should be more clear with that fits into each unit and what is floor level access versus ladder. This is especially helpful for people with physical limitations. I'm pregnant. :) It also wasn't clear if the lock inside the unit is complementary or if we're required to pay for it. Upon entering I wasn’t given proper instructions on how to access my unit nor retrieve my add on products (boxes and wrapping). Once I was given my unit number, someone else’s lock was on it. After going back into the showroom and waiting 10 minutes I was given a new unit. When I attempted to use the service elevator to go to the unit the access number was denied. I went back downstairs, waited another 10 minutes and was given a card with a replacement code that did work. Once my movers and I were done filling the unit we left the store to pick up another load. When we returned the access code that was put on the card was also denied and the showroom was closed. I was only able to make my final unload because another person let us on the service elevator. Once I got home I realized I was charged for the first month of rental when in my original online order I was offered the promotional 1st month free. Diamond was wonderful help when I was moving in and this review is not based on her service. It is instead based on the management situation. Firstly, there was an extremely long line and only 3 people working. This made wait times horribly long. Secondly, I reserved a large unit a month in advance, because I sold my 2200 sq ft house. I was unable to check in online and had to proceed to the front desk. When I got to the desk the unit was unavailable. And Diamond had to find me several alternative units to compensate for the one larger unit. This provided for a more stressful experience on an already stressful day. All the while, time is literally money as I am paying movers and they are waiting outside for all this to be resolved. By the time, I get to my units it cost me an extra $200 to the movers. I was told the locks would be available to me inside the unit. Once I got to the smaller unit, somebody had stolen the lock and left the empty package on the floor. I had to go back and luckily Diamond provided me with another lock. So, in conclusion Diamond saved the day! But, she shouldn’t have had to. If you hire great people, you should support them in getting the job done right by making sure reserved units are actually reserved and customers don’t wait an hour or more in line. There were no cards for use despite being advertised, and it wasn't that they were all in use because there was no one else there when we were. But of the 20 or so carts that were supposed to be there, not one was.Victoria N. | Online Move In
I made a reservation over the phone for a 20x10x6 unit, which I paid for ahead of time. My reservation was lost. A staff member--one of only two I encountered who kind and tried to be helpful--supported me in reserving the only 20x10x6 unit still available. When my movers and I arrived at the unit, we realized it was much smaller than 20x10x6. I went back and she told me there were no units of that size available; the only one was reserved (I assume that was my unit!). She said I could rent a second unit, which was on a completely different floor and not climate controlled, so my movers told me what size to get and we completed the reservation. She said, "You're all set!" I was not all set. The key card I had didn't grant us access to the floor where the second unit was located. I went back again and she told me she needed to give me a second key card. I have no idea why she didn't do that in the first place. I'm currently arranging for my items to be picked up and moved to a private storage facility. I actually left my keys there for them in an envelope. One of the employees helped me and made a note in my account. She was the second person who was kind and at least attempting to be helpful. If I discover those keys have been "lost"... Most of the staff were rude, incompetent and completely unhelpful. I don't know if other locations are similar in this respect, but I would never recommend this facility and I certainly will never use it again.Nicole B. | First Impressions
There aren’t enough flatbeds in the loading area and it was not made clear that despite my unit being on the first floor, that there would still be stairs up to my unit which made moving much more difficult.
