A little frustrating with the check in process. We did the online check in, thinking it would be quicker than going inside and waiting in a line. Turns out we still had to go inside and wait in a line to get our key. It cut into our rental time by about 15 minutes. Also, our assigned truck was blocked in by another truck and we had to ask someone to move it. We were then yelled at for not pulling it out while we were still in the online check in process of taking photos of damage, etc . Very rude staff in the outside area. Woman at the front desk was very nice and when I realized the moving supplies I purchased were not given to me at check in, she was happy to grab them for me and get me on my way. Reservation was supposed to start at 6:00 pm, we were out of the parking lot closer to 6:30 pm. Need to find an easier way to have mobile check in at this location.

I was originally unfairly charged $64 for gas (I had returned the vehicle with the agreed-upon amount in the tank). However, I called and spoke with Katrina, who was very helpful in processing a refund for me. Thanks, Katrina!

we waited in line more than a half hour just to speak to someone about our reservation. there were not enough employees for the rush and they, with the exception of the man who ended up helping us, did not seem interested in moving faster to get the line taken care of. A week prior we went to another location where we had exceptional service. The woman at the desk was polite, professional and moved the line along great.

I had a horrible experience at the Saugus, Ma location. Returned five times without resolving the incorrect installation. One trip to Medford not only was the issue resolved the mechanic was highly experienced and was very friendly and understanding.

We had our hitch installed in October 2018. First time towing boat trailor lights did not work. Augusta Maine Uhaul said it was not installed correctly. Sommerville Uhaul place will let us make an appointments to get it fixed. Just tried to look at ourselves and found out rear quarter panel is cracked from when uhaul installed the first time. Will never use these folks again

Point out some primary points that may have been missed in the reservation process, such as one-way trucks do not come with a locks and some highway tips (e.g. if I need to use the truck parking at rest stops and remind that standard auto fees for toll roads don’t apply). Also, I had trouble using the truck check system on my phone. I had to go back and forth between the desk and the truck to settle all matters. If in-person check in is used, it would help to have one person guiding from start to finish.

When I placed my reservation I was told the U-HAUL rental close to me had the equipment I needed. Then received a text that I needed to pick up at a location that told me they didn’t have the equipment needed?? The location I wanted to pick up told me they had the equipment??

check in was great. Check out--I parked the van, didn't really know what to do and the employee sitting in the garage was on his phone. I had to ask him what to do. He did not inspect the van or calculate mileage in my presence.

Hello, I rent auto transports on a regular basis. The staff was extremely polite and accommodating and the equipment is clean, well maintained and worked flawlessly. There was a major issue with the computer system and the booking system. The network crashed a number of times and the staff was unable to find the equipment availability due to network issues. I ended up calling all the local locations and finding it on my own. The staff and equipment work great, just need to work the bugs out of the comp. system.... Thanks a very satisfied customer.

Krzysztof Sikorski 34 Summer Street Bedford, MA 01730 csikorski@yahoo.com U-Haul Moving & Storage at Central Square 844 Main Street Cambridge, MA 01239 Breach of Contract Demand Letter 90122845 To Whom It May Concern: On June 1, 2019, the 844 Main Street in Cambridge store violated the contract between U-Haul and the undersigned, Krzysztof Sikorski. On May 31, 2019, I preordered on-line the Auto Transporter. In my reservation form (90122845) I provided the required information. My order was confirmed by email for the 7 a.m. pick up on June 1. Such email constitutes the contract. When I arrived at 844 Main Street in Cambridge, another customer was inquiring about the same equipment. I could hear the clerk on duty informing another customer that although there is only one Auto Transporter on premises and it is already booked, she is going to give it to him. The familiar and accommodating tone of the clerk’s communication with the other customer suggested that the other customer was a friend or an acquaintance of the clerk herself or of the store manager. The clerk stated that because I did not provide the plate number of the vehicle to be transported, she could not rent the transporter to me. Please note that I have rented similar equipment in the past, and such information was not required. The clerk then released the transporter to another customer. Moreover, my original order was apparently altered by U-Haul clerk and indicated that I reserved the Tow Dolly to be picked up in Elsmere, KY. Releasing the equipment reserved for me to another customer, and tempering with my order to disguise such action, constitutes the breach of contract. Meanwhile, my wife tried to call your store several times to find a solution. The clerk did not answer the phone. As a result, my wife was on hold with the call center for several hours (cell phone records confirm that and can be released to authorities if needed). Eventually, Jeremy and Tatiana (from the call center and from the headquarters) located the Auto Transporter in a Somerville store at 600 Mystic Valley Pkwy. The Somerville staff, Jeremy and Tatiana were kind and resourceful. As a result, I picked up the equipment at 11 a.m. – four hours later than U-Haul promised. Sadly, the clerk and the manager at 844 Main Street in Cambridge showed no willingness to resolve the situation. I am hereby suggesting the remedy. Please offer the ways to compensate me for the breach of contract. My experience at 844 Main Street in Cambridge location reflects badly on the entire company whose services are supposed to help communities. Sincerely, Krzysztof Sikorski

Dirty windshield inside and out. Cargo van cleanliness was OK, but there is a gasoline smell in the cargo area. I couldn't put gas in the gas tank, except very slowly. Every time I squeezed the gas hose, it would shut off. Even when I 'trickled' the gas in it would shut off. The check engine light is on.

Although the equipment was clean and functional, I was overcharged for my rental. I called the number on the contract and was connected to the Arizona headquarters. They assured me that they had submitted the request for refund to the location I used and that I would be contacted and refunded. Apparently, none of that happened and it has been a week. I called the location and they knew nothing about it and would not refund me unless I came in with my contract in hand. The lack of communication and functioning is very frustrating and I have yet to be refunded for being charged for double what I actually used. I will probably never use Uhaul again.

Though all customer service reps I dealt with were very friendly, none of them actually advise me that I should consider renting a truck the same location where I rented a storage unit, what size of a storage unit should fit for all the furniture I was moving which I described to them, or that booking a storage unit in advance don't actually guarantee that I shall get one or that it will be on a floor with an easy elevator access.

The setup is terrible. Reserving a truck and storage unit online does not guarantee you'll actually get one. Why not just make customers pay something upfront and guarantee the reservation?

This comment pertains to Uhaul’s overall experience: I found the communication regarding my rental contract to be confusing and incomplete. Nowhere in my email or on my U-Haul account was it possible to find a full record of my contract including pickup and drop off information as well as terms of the agreement (mileage allowances and cost for going over, gas fill-up requirements and cost for going under, etc.).

I waited in line for 40 minutes to find UHaul had cancelled my reservation while I was waiting in line. Then the staff told me it was my fault for not arriving earlier. Under no circumstances will I I use this location again --- fortunately I was able to get a van for a lower price that day with Zipcar.

At 10am on May 31st, there was only one manned cash register leading to an excessively long line. By 10:30 or so there were 3, but we waited quite a while to get the truck. Having more active registers when we arrived would have been a better experience.

I do an online check-in and they still check everything again. Something's amiss. I will stop doing an online check-in, since it's useless anyways. I just wish I could order a rental online, and on the day/time of the rental just walk-in and it would be smooth sailing and the least amount of hassle. But it always is the same run-around and cross-checking everything again. To be clear: I am not complaining about the hookup itself, clearly I understand U-Haul must check that my vehicle is properly hooked up before I leave the parking lot.

Misleading fuel charges, had my order totaled out at around $100 and then was charged $175 upon return of the vehicle. Of this, $30 is identified as a fill-up charge and $45. I sent an email response to my bill stating this but it has not been responded to. I think the $45 fuel sales charge is wrong, I only drove 27 miles.

The wait in line at the store was 45 min!!! due to 2 customers who had not registered on line. I think there should be 2 separate lines: 1 for people that are walk-ins and 1 for online pre-registered to minimize wait times. Once I got to a service agent, it took 5 min. for me. The agent was very good.

I came there at 9:30am Sunday May 12th. I made an appointment 24 hours in advance for our van. The gentleman at the front desk was very nice and pleasant however, he was the only one there and the line was a half an hour wait. Which threw a wrench in my plans because I told the people that were helping me move my schedule. So it pushed my whole day back. The van on the inside was dirty and I was moving a little very light colored couch. So we had to make sure nothing touched the floor of the van . Which didn’t help when we were rushing since we were a half an hour behind schedule . It was very stressful. To add insult to injury when I got home after the move I checked the balance of what was charged and the gentleman put $20 for insurance that I did not ask for! And he Never asked me if I wanted insurance. I had to call u-Haul customer service and spoke with a nice lady and she gave me a credit . There was just a lot of holes in my day they were very stressful because of uhaul and I think that things can be way more organized at your place of business. Especially if other people were working the desk to help out the man that was working there things probably would’ve went more smoothly . I will most likely go to budget rental if I have to rent any kind of van or truck in the future. Hopefully my experience there will be better than the one at U-Haul . Sorry so harsh but I was expecting better customer service, a clean van, And better communication. And I got the complete opposite . Thank you

I’ve rented from Wilmington, MA and Woburn, MA locations in past and had great service. Medford’s computer wasn’t working nor was credit card reader. The yard crew was unhelpful and almost damaged my vehicle if I hadn’t yelled out to one member who was on phone and not paying attention.

Uhaul put $1.89 on hold on my debit card and did not tell me. I was in the process of closing out my bank account because I had just opened a new account with another bank. I cut a check to myself for the exact amount in my account in order to close out the account. Because my account was $1.89 short the check bounced and was charged a $30 bounced check fee. Uhaul did not reimburse the bounced check fee. I am not happy. I am not sure why they put $1.89 on hold and not tell me

After-hours key-drop used to be a simple procedure: drop of the truck, put the keys in the slot, get an invoice the next day. Now I'm told I have to download an app an sign the vehicle back in myself. That's not my job, that's your job—why I'm paying you. Remarkably enough, I don't always carry a phone. And if I do, there's no guarantee it will always work or be charged. If I'm required to sign in an after-hours return myself, I will be renting from your competitors. Further, you should bring back the paper form for listing truck damage. The photos you send to my phone for verifying against the actual vehicle are too small and pixilated to serve any useful purpose. mark existing damage on a sheet of paper than a normal human can read. Millenials may prefer to do everything with their phones. I prefer to use my phone only for things it's more efficient for than other methods. The procedures above are prime examples of things that are better done with paper than with apps, at least for this consumer. And please spare me the schpiel about saving trees. We both know these changes are about automating and cutting jobs.

The first time we rented a truck they didn’t not have our size available even though it was confirmed the day before. We had to rent a truck again, move on a second day, and pay for additional moving help. Don’t use uhaul.

I would suggest a Express line in store for people who reserved their truck online. I reserved a truck for 9am pickup. Got there at 8:45. Waited in a line behind people who were signing up for storage units and others who were just asking about truck rates. The guy in front of me didn't reserve his truck online and so that took 10 minutes alone. I signed up for furniture pads but never used them (as can be seen from the unbroken plastic tie) but was still charged. Who ever parked my 17' truck last before I picked it up 4/28 never shut the driver's side door all the way so the seat and inside door were soaked from the rain the night before when I got in. Other than those issues, it was great! I was able to call for an extension of time when I knew I needed more which went smoothly. 4 out of 5 stars.

the van we were assigned was blocked in by another van - the guy out front who was supposed to help us just walked away and started helping other people. We had to go find someone else to help us and ended up leaving the site 30 minutes late. When we came back to return the truck, we arrived before 3:00 pm (scheduled return time) but our receipt stated that the truck was returned almost 30 minutes late. The error was corrected by the manager the next day but there were far too many errors on drop off and pick up - need better support at this location.

I used the mobile reservation ad pickup option. This is supposed to be time saving compared to in store - but after uploading headshot and license and finding the truck it was 15-20 min before the online agent acknowledged my question how long this would take while in the pouring rain. There was a couple other dissatisfied customers that had the same problem. It took another 10 min for it to go through- so it was 30 min after I wanted to pickup and still had to be back what was now 3.5 h instead of 4. The people in the store were busy and just said we should be happy that we at least will get a truck because without reservation there were no available. So I don’t understand why the eligibility is not verified when ordering - but only after one slows up st the location to pick up and going. This makes little sense to me

Revert to the old sign-out procedure where customers checked for damage in real time, and marked any on a picture of the vehicle. The procedure was precise, produces a permanent record, took 30 - 45 seconds, and was done. Now I have to search for an email and fart around with a phone, when really all I want to do is get in the truck and go. Maybe some of your customers don't own iphones, or like using them, or always have them with them, or have them charged. This is yet another thinly veiled example of a business REDUCING it's customer service while selling it as "more convenient" and/or producing a better record of existing damage. It's neither. Get rid of this cumbersome and annoying drain on my time and bring back the paper vehicle check out it. Why make things more complicated for your customers. Would have loved to have sat in on the focus group that approved this nonsense—I have to wonder if any of them ever actually rented a truck? Take it from a small business owner who is ALWAYS asking how could we make this better/faster/cheaper: bring back paper.

This location was severely understaffed and the computer systems seemed to make life harder for the reps trying tho help customers. When we picked up the dolly I was renting, we witnessed a staff member had to tell a customer that they couldn't sell her something because the computer didn't list it as being in the inventory, even though she was holding it at the register. When we returned the dolly, our rep had to try about 5-6 times to log our return into the system. It seems like the backbone of the inventory system desperately needs to be updated.

The self-service sign in process was kind of arduous. 1. The site first gave me a truck that was parked in. I had to go into the office to ask what to do. It turned out I could say that "I couldn't find the truck" and would be assigned another one, but this wasn't clear from the website design. 2. After doing the self check-in, I had to go inside again anyway to get the key. What's the point of self check-in in that case? I might as well have just gone inside from the beginning.

They recorded that my truck had 7/8 fuel tank when I started, but in fact it had 5/8 fuel. I assumed that they had checked it properly, and only checked the amount after I had left and was at a stop light. The difference was an extra 30 dollars, or 25% more on the bill.

Great, simple experience as always. One thing though, even when the truck is empty, it is extremely bumpy and rattly. If you guys made sure the suspension was appropriately functional and other aspects of the trucks were shored up a bit, it would make the user experience much better. Also, at some point in the future adding a USB port to the radio would not be considered extravagant.
