This isn't a comment on mystic valley parkway U-Haul specifically; rather, it's a comment on U-Haul's false advertisement more generally. Let me be perfectly clear- the guy who checked me out was great (e.g., nice, informative, professional)- but, the $19.99 (or whatever the cents are) price tags on your flat beds, vans, and 10 foot trucks are nothing more than false advertising. Whoever reads this can't do anything, I know. Trust me, I know. I'll take It up with the BBB and hope that something comes to fruition. Take care

I marked down my overall experience because they wrongly marked my initial gas fuel level at 7/8 instead of 3/4. We realized only after driving off the lot so didn't get the opportunity to correct it. When we got back, they were very insistent on tacking on the $30 service fee + the overly expensive per gallon charge. Eventually the extra fees got dropped but it made for a very uncomfortable ending to an already long, tiring moving day.

Before the uhaul was returned and on the road I received a very nasty phone call from someone complaining that the truck hadn't been returned yet and was overdue. In fact, the truck was not overdue but the individual was very unpleasant and rude. It was probably due to the fact that he had a line of people waiting for trucks but that was no excuse for his behavior on the phone. Luckily when the truck was dropped off the individual was pleasant and helpful and everything was resolved without hassle or argument. I do not know if it was the same person who called.

I've been warned that U-Haul does not always guarantee the equipment at the location and time you request. U-Haul ultimately relies on trust, that the previous renter will return the equipment on time. That's why I tried to rent the equipment early in the morning to be the first renter of the van for the day. It went fairly smoothly, the long line moved quickly, equipment was received immediately, easy to return and reasonably priced. Best for short trips around the city. I rented the cargo van to move myself (one bedroom) and a roommate (one bedroom) in 3 trips. We booked the van 3 weeks in advance online and there were lots of options still to make the reservation. Move took about 4 hours but we booked for 6 to allow for lunch and to buy and pick up a washer and dryer later. Give yourself extra time to pick up big purchases afterward while you have the van. Overall good experience but definitely helped to plan ahead and move the weekend before the Sept 1 rush.

The truck was fairly new but you could tell by the steering that people had beat on it. The steering was loose and a bit wobbly on the highway. The truck reeked of cigarettes and there was trash in it from whoever used it before me. Also the back was sandy and so dirty that a lot of our stuff was dirtier coming out of the truck than when we put it in. The low tire pressure light was on for the back left tire as well. I tried to tell a worker when i returned the truck and he immediately walked away from me. He came back with another guy who said he was the manager. He said, "whats the problem" before i even say a word to him. I told him about the issues with the truck, as a heads up. I wasn't looking for money back or anything like that. I figured he'd appreciate the feedback. Instead he says, "did you tell us before you took the truck off the lot?" In a very defensive tone. I said no, most of this was noticed after I had driven away and got home already. He said, "too bad, you were told to check the truck and tell us prior to leaving." In his smug tone. He said, the truck looks fine and not even dirty. I then told him that's because I had already cleaned the cab and rear of the truck so I wouldn't get any extra charges for other people's messes. I also told him I was told to check the gas, that's it. I even returned the truck more than an hour prior to when they requested it back to help them out. He stood with his arms folded staring at me then shrugged and said, there's nothing I can do. Like i was asking for him to drop down to his knees and apologize. All of this was just to let him know the truck wasn't rent worthy. I was already annoyed from moving and the very hot day so I didn't push the issue with him and decided to just walk away rather than explode on him verbally in front of other people and make him look even more dumb than he already was. As blunt as I can be, the manager is a dick, and he has no customer service skills. I'll be sure to give this location as poor of a rating on yelp as i can and tell everyone to avoid it or at least look over whatever they rent meticulously before leaving so they don't get screwed over by poor prep work done by the staff there. Thanks for listening to my rant.

I had an overall terrible experience with UHaul this move. My preferred site for pick up was guaranteed at one location that would have been close to my apartment. It was then moved somewhere an extra 10 miles away through busy Boston traffic. What is the point of a guarantee if it means nothing? The truck itself sounded like it might break down and the AC and radio worked intermittently.

Ask if a lock is needed for the door on the 10 foot U-Haul truck....it can be opened by anyone at a rest stop.

This U-HAUL location is excellent overall, and the equipment was well-maintained and somewhat clean, but I guess that only because I have been spoiled by overall excellent performance of this location would I like to make the following critical comment: The inside rear of the cargo van could have been better cleaned. It was clear to me that someone HAD hosed off the floor of the interior, but there remained the soggy debris of whatever it was that had been on the floor in greater quantity before. Not a big problem, but my "expectation bar" had been set high by the prior repeatedly excellent performance of this location.

My issue was I signed up to drop off at the Linwood location close to the move location. They refused to take it and I had to transport it across town to the Mystic Park location. Very disappointing.
