JEFFERSON GThe truck I rented was in poor operating condition. There was less than 1/4 tank of gas when I got the truck. I was not informed of the myriad charges that would apply upon return. I drove the truck 13 miles total and used approximately 1/8 tank of gas. I returned the truck expecting to be charged $5 per gallon for what i thought would be a couple gallons. Instead I received a $30 fee plus a charge for 10 gallons of gas, an outrageous fee for 13 miles of driving. While the general manager, Jason Vorhis,was willing to waive some of the fees, he reverted to a rigid "its company policy and in the fine print of the contract" response to any further accomodation. While this is not a huge amount of money, I consider this to be one of the worst customer experiences I have had. I will never use Uhaul Moving and Storage at 73rd and Sandy in Portland again, and I will certainly be discouraging any of my friends and family from doing so. Isaac Regenstreif
ISAAC RMy experience was a mix of good/bad. Bad: -The uhaul website and app both don’t work well. Booking was fine but then I had trouble doing the pick up because it couldn’t find my location after already confirming location services was working. The app is also integral to roadside assistance and is not reliable enough there either. More on that… -The truck blew a tire on the highway. Dead flat in seconds. The roadside assistance QR code is just a link to the app (it should really be a phone number). So I submitted through the app and got a tire repairman dispatched. Then the app timed out and lost all evidence of my roadside claim. It never even gave me a claim number or any link to find it again nor a phone number to call. Fortunately a support rep had already texted me so i communicated with them via text. The app had also given them the wrong address of where i was pulled over even though i had entered it manually. The repairman took a couple hours to arrive. He said the blown tire was old/worn way more than the other 3 and a very cheap brand of tire, like it had probably been changed before and i was driving on someone’s crappy spare. Good: -The rental office employee was very fast and helpful getting me checked in when the app wasn’t working. Likewise easy and friendly on the return. -The customer service rep for roadside assistance was easy to communicate with via text. -The repairman was super nice and fast once he arrived, and put on an actually good new tire. Very professional. So in summary for renting a truck just for one day I lost an afternoon’s worth of time and couldn’t finish my tasks with it. I did not get my money’s worth. The uhaul app is essential for check-in and roadside and is bad at both. The employees and representatives were great during the whole process. So my rating is right in the middle.

MARK W- contactless check in still required going inside and waiting for an employee to help. I stood inside for 5+ minutes and started saying "hello? Hello?" Before anyone appeared. - truck was left open in the back and filled with leaves. - truck gas tank was completely empty - dolly was paid for but neither one truck or offered by the human I had to interact with to check in. When I went back inside and asked if I could just grab one they were like "uuuuh I guess so" no apologies. - when I returned the truck there was barely any parking left because the lot had not been shuffled to accommodate return parking appropriately.

CJ AThe pick up of the trailer at this location was a disaster. I arrived at opening, 9AM, I was near the beginning of the line and didn't get my trailer until after 10am. It was a mess. It appears the opening of the store was done incorrectly and so all of the credit card readers showed "this lane closed". There was only one person at the registers for the first half hour and he was having a lot of trouble helping people. The second person arrived at 9:25 and he also had a lot of trouble helping people. The trailer had what I think was diesel spilled in it and so it made it slick as an ice rink which was exciting while loading motorcyles onto it. Otherwise the trailer worked well.
JONATHAN GCustomer service agent called me at 730 am 2 days after I returned the trailer, threatening to report the trailer as stolen, saying I didn't have a valid contract, that he had called me over and over, etc. He had called me once the day before I returned the trailer, and I had a perfectly valid contract signed when I first rented the trailer, and he had the thing sitting in his lot for a day and a half when he decided to call me making all sorts of threats at 730 in the damn morning. Then as icing on the cake, he put down that I returned it a day later than I actually did, so I had to call uhaul again, wasting more of my time to get refunded for the extra day he charged me for. Abysmal customer service at this location. The corporate customer support staff got things sorted, but did nothing to compensate me for the time I wasted dealing with the false charge and off the rails agent at the drop off location. Most companies will do something to say sorry when they make mistakes that inconvenience their customers.
LORIN BHonestly, this was the first time renting from U-Haul and I had a great experience. Not sure what else could have been done to improve my experience.

B BTruck back door barely worked. No lock provided. Stepped right in dog crap dropping the truck off, right in the lot. window was open for a rainstorm and seat was all wet. I'm up to 3 charges on my card now. Placeholder charge, one that is double, and one that's somewhere in the middle. What a scam.
TYLER RJust before returning the U-Haul, I stopped to get gas to put it back up to 5/8 of a tank. The gas station attendant discovered somewhat had cut the line because it was the first time I had put gas in it. I do not want to be billed for not returning it full.
GEORGE EMake sure the truck the rent has not had the gas tank messed with or siphoned it took me almost 30 min to put in 20.00 when I told the guy about it he was like uh it happens here, and you guys still charged me an additional 47. 00 for fule after the check in guy said not to worry about it.

DALE HThe staff were excellent - both pick up and drop off. It was impossible to get the van out of the location without going against direction arrows, especially with other customers coming in to pick up trailers.

FORREST BI’ve rented maybe 8 uhauls in the last year while remodeling a house. The current dtagf at this location are top notch! Friendly and efficient. I did after hours drop off for the first time and couldn’t get my phone to cooperate, but everything was fine.
TIFFANY TWell, not forgetting there is a customer waiting while walking right past him several times might be a big help. After 20-25 minutes or so I had to walk over to where the 3 guys were talking and got a “Can I help you?” When I told him what I was there for I got a “sorry, I forgot.” I understand being busy and forgetting things. But at this point I was the only customer there and I was still not being helped. Overall it took about 45 minutes just to pick up a trailer that I had reserved online the night before.

ALEX BMaybe a modification to the van itself. Having the ability to go from the cab, to the cargo area with a protective rack with a door, instead of a solid rack would be helpful. That’s about it, everything else was perfect.
Patrick FThe vehicle that was assigned to me appeared to operate normally the day I picked it up however the next day the check engine light came on in a steady on condition and it concerned me, so I reported it and waited around for someone to come and check it out. Eventually a man showed up and hooked up his equipment to read the computer output. He called someone and I heard him state that there was some misfires. When he got off the phone he told me that it was safe to drive. When I went to pick up the trailer I had agreed to tow for U-Haul under their share program. After dealing with the arrogant, rude employee at that site, where I came close to just not doing the trailer tow, this person needs a lot of training in customer relations and service. What a rude person he was. I noticed immediately after the trailer was hooked up that the trailer seemed to be very heavy, asked for the weight of the trailer and he refused to tell me. I left and really noticed the drag on the truck which concerned me. On the way back to my apartment the check engine light started flashing at times of acceleration. Once up to speed the light would return to steady on. Once on the way to Colorado that check engine light would flash at times and then be steady on. When I hit the mountains the problem became very disturbing as when going up hill the truck would go from 55 mph to 30 mph and worried if I would make it to the top. The truck was sucking gas that I figured I was only getting 4-5 mpg at the most. Part of the light problem is that the vacuum system was affecting the engine performance and mpg. I got totally screwed by U-Haul in this deal and at the end I was charged another $80 for fuel when the truck fuel level was where it was supposed to be when I returned the truck a day early. I doubt I will ever use U-Haul again and definitely not participate with their share program. I filed a protest on the fuel charge and the only response was the addition of a late charge of $30. I have asked an attorney to review the the matter and specifically the trailer tow and the sending me on my way with a malfunctioning vehicle.
ALAN KStaff was very rude when I asked for help with a 26 foot trailer trying to get it into a small parking lot with lots of other vehicles in the dark and I came around to the exit and that street was closed off by two cars on each side so I could not fit the truck through there. I asked two young gentlemen who worked for U-Haul to please help me, figure out what to do with the truck either back it up or if I could bring it in straight and then the wrong way because I couldn’t get in and they told me that it was closing time with 15 minutes till 8 o’clock when they’re open till eight that they were not gonna help me and I said I am I supposed to do he said back it around and come back the other way. I said I can’t sit in there and I can’t back up this 26 foot truck help me I please I need help And they said just pull it in the wrong way and will deal with it in the morning. it’s not a big deal. Then I got charged $50 for putting the truck in the wrong way. I found them to be very rude unhelpful and horrible representation of U-Haul. And I would never rent from them ever again. I was in a strange city at night and was left by those two employees with no idea of what I was supposed to do. Or how I was going to get that truck out of there any other way then how I ended up leaving the shock and I asked them and they said just bring it and we’ll figure it out in the morning because they wanted to go home. I did exit through the app And no help of there’s there either and in my frazzling I pushed a quarter tank when it was really five or the next click up and then I was charged another hundred dollars for gas after I just put $50 worth of gas in it I have my $50 refunded at the very least

The only complaint is the parking on the streets surrounding the storage access door was always crowded and difficult to find a spot. Interesting storage sizes and locations of units, but it works. If I need storage again, I will go there first.

Robert B | Overall ExperienceThe best thing about this location is its manager, David. He is available at nearly all hours of the day which made my experience much better, and I thank him for that. However, everything else (mostly related to U-Haul at the corporate level) was unprofessional and disorganized. I was told (by a very kind and helpful customer service rep) that I could move into this location after-hours. I spent hours trying to get in, and ultimately ended up having to wait until morning to move in, which caused me to miss a flight and take on the expense. I learned later that move in after 10pm is not possible, which I was assured would not be an issue over the phone previously. Upon move-out, I had scheduled a truck at this location for 8/1, but when I could not find the reservation in my app I called the location. The clerk told me that the reservation was for 7/31 for a "Frank" (my name is Jack) and therefore was cancelled for no-show. I was looking at the confirmation message for 8/1 at noon, which I told the clerk, who responded, "the reservation was for 7/31 and it is cancelled. I don't know what you want me to do about this". Instead of fixing the problem he suggested I figure it out on my own. I ended up getting lucky and finding equipment at another location. I have very little trust with U-Haul now. I know that my money is not safe with U-Haul and I anticipate losing money and time when working with this company. The employees are not equipped to properly solve customer issues. I will not be a returning customer because I think it's bad business to make multiple errors (similar problems have occured the last two times I have used U-Haul in Seattle and Chicago) and tell the customer to figure out what the company did wrong and to fix it themselves on their own hour and dime.

The phone representative was rude and argumentative and now years of memories are gone. Thank God the washer and dryer were to big to take.

I made a reservation online and received email confirmation, but your staff could find nothing about me on the store computers. My account had vanished. Total waste of time and very stressful. The facility was temperature and humidity controlled as advertised. The storage unit was secure and easily accessible. Whenever I had to talk to staff, which was only during move in and move out, they were kind and helpful. Only complaint I had is one of my boxes had mouse poop on it when I moved out. I know it isn't easy to control, but that was kinda gross. At least none of them died in there.

I was disappointed when my reservation was for a unit that required going up stairs. Zachary was able to seamlessly check the inventory and change my storage space to the ground level. My phone was not working and I could not call a car service after my move and Zachary offered calling a cab. A great customer service experience all around!
