I could never get anyone in the NE Sandy (Portland) office on the phone, even after 15 minutes on hold. Thought that was a U-Haul cost saving thing maybe, but when I called the Oakland Coliseum location to hear a recording of holiday hours, I accidentally pressed the wrong option and got a human in that office within seconds. The van had not been cleaned, someone's fast food lunch bag was in the cab and blueberries were squished all over the floor so that means it had not been sanitized or cleaned between use. It had a funky smell as well. It cost me $80 to rent a van for three hours when you say your vans cost $19.95. All the fees and taxes are ridiculous. The staff were very helpful and polite. Self check-in process was terrible. It took almost an hour and the website kept freezing and caused my phone to crash. It never let me finish the check-in process and an employee told me to just take pictures and drive away. SketchyCarla L.
Location would not communicate with local unit and was very rude. Store manager wouldnt communicate with other uhaul areas. Very rude and short with others. Assistant manager was short and inattentive, sat with earbuds in the entire time and texting. Made it a multi hour event rather than working with the local uhaul that made the reservation. I reserved 2 vans and only 1 was there. I got $50 for the 2nd van not being available, but I didn't need money, I needed a 2nd van. Then they gave me the keys to the wrong van. I picked it up close to closing time so when I figured out it was the wrong keys they had locked up and were out of there exactly at closing. I had to hunt around and found the van the keys went to, but of course, it didn't have the furniture pads I needed because it was the wrong van. VERY DISAPPOINTING OVERALL!JULIE H.

I got there and was handed a sticky note with an address on it. I asked what it was and was told that is where I could take my truck. This was my first day in a strange city and I chose the location for its proximity to my car, which I left at the airport. The new address took me about 30 minutes to get to. Upon arrival, the guy was super nice but explained that I would have to pay an automatic recovery fee for not retuning it to the proper location. He suggested I take it back to the original location. I called first and was told I could bring bring it back, and when I got there not one person would look at me. The one who handed me the sticky note took the key and said, "have a nice day" without looking at me! No apology or anything.ANN G.
This location and the staff are awesome. After a nightmare with another location the previous day (vehicle assigned was missing, catalytic converters stolen, AND one with a fuel line cut. I had to call it quits after three straight van failures), I was apprehensive about giving U-HAUL another shot. I tried a different location and it was just so much better. The staff was super friendly, the store and vehicle was well maintained and cleaned, and communication with them was a breeze. If I could give more stars I would. This is second time using U-Haul that our location has been changed at the last minute. We were waiting at the pick-up location when they called and changed it. Feels very disorganized. Not particularly this location but U-Haul in general. Also, upon check out our mileage was wrong and we had to catch it or they would have over charged us $230.00.THOMAS H.

The person who helped me changed my drop off location in Arizona to a location that was more than 25 miles away even though I selected a return location that was less than 2 miles away. I didn't realize this until I went to return the trailer. Yes, I could have changed the location by calling, but the wait time after calling the Uhaul phone number was 45 and 60 minutes which would have been a longer wait to talk to someone to change the drop off than to just drive up the extra miles and return it.STEPHEN B.

After a month of rental Vehicles. We had a petty dirt spot on the floor running board and were charged $25 for that. The mobile check-in/pick-up and drop off features have not worked for me. The comments by staff onsite that "if mobile drop-off doesn't work, call this number" lead me to believe that it tends not to work. It didn't work a couple of weeks ago when I rented a truck either. This time, the reservation system let me reserve for 8:30am pickup on a day the location opened at 9am. But because it didn't work, I had to wait until 9 to check in in-person. I had co-workers waiting for me (we rented a truck for a work event). The truck still needed to be cleaned before I could leave as well. The other customers and I were all wearing masks, but no employees were, inside the building. This made me very uncomfortable because it is out of line with current CDC guidelines due to the Delta variant being spread by vaccinated individuals. I have an unvaccinated child at home. I think that a bunch of masked customers is a good indication of what customers are comfortable with, and I am surprised that UHaul is not taking a simple step to make customers safe in their facility. The county is now going to resume indoor mask mandates so this issue will be resolved for the time being, but I hope in the future that UHaul will choose to exceed the minimum mandated safety standards, especially when they clearly are lagging behind the evidence.RACHEL EMILY COD G.

I have only been successful at renting my reserved equipment once. And no one at the store has a solution to offer. I use U-Haul the run my business and it's especially upsetting when I got through the effort to make a reservation and the equipment is either unavailable or there is a 50% chance that my credit card has problems. None of the employees have a solution to offer me nor do they seem to actually care. I rent monthly from U-Haul and I would rather go through the pain of leasing a vehicle rather than use U-Haul again. This time was especially upsetting considering the rental I was stuck with cost me twice as much as the one I reserved. All due to the fact that the credit card reader was down. And not one person at the store had the ability to offer me a solution.COLT B.
The best thing about this location is its manager, David. He is available at nearly all hours of the day which made my experience much better, and I thank him for that. However, everything else (mostly related to U-Haul at the corporate level) was unprofessional and disorganized. I was told (by a very kind and helpful customer service rep) that I could move into this location after-hours. I spent hours trying to get in, and ultimately ended up having to wait until morning to move in, which caused me to miss a flight and take on the expense. I learned later that move in after 10pm is not possible, which I was assured would not be an issue over the phone previously. Upon move-out, I had scheduled a truck at this location for 8/1, but when I could not find the reservation in my app I called the location. The clerk told me that the reservation was for 7/31 for a "Frank" (my name is Jack) and therefore was cancelled for no-show. I was looking at the confirmation message for 8/1 at noon, which I told the clerk, who responded, "the reservation was for 7/31 and it is cancelled. I don't know what you want me to do about this". Instead of fixing the problem he suggested I figure it out on my own. I ended up getting lucky and finding equipment at another location. I have very little trust with U-Haul now. I know that my money is not safe with U-Haul and I anticipate losing money and time when working with this company. The employees are not equipped to properly solve customer issues. I will not be a returning customer because I think it's bad business to make multiple errors (similar problems have occured the last two times I have used U-Haul in Seattle and Chicago) and tell the customer to figure out what the company did wrong and to fix it themselves on their own hour and dime.Jack R. | Overall Experience

Staff and facility are great. What was appallingly bad was my experience with your website. I made a reservation online and received email confirmation, but your staff could find nothing about me on the store computers. My account had vanished. Total waste of time and very stressful. It was nice having a keycard to access whenever needed and not having to deal with staff during Covid. The facility was temperature and humidity controlled as advertised. The storage unit was secure and easily accessible. Whenever I had to talk to staff, which was only during move in and move out, they were kind and helpful. Only complaint I had is one of my boxes had mouse poop on it when I moved out. I know it isn't easy to control, but that was kinda gross. This unit was not usable. We rented it without seeing it due to an emergency situation and arrived to see a unit that was a “stack unit” that I do not feel was adequately described on the website. I could not be happier with my experience at this UHAUL location. Everything explained clearly and they were quite patient with me as I was very tired after arriving from out of state and moving in 90+ degree weather. I was disappointed when my reservation was for a unit that required going up stairs. Zachary was able to seamlessly check the inventory and change my storage space to the ground level.
