Moving to Boston? Rent the Best One-Way Moving Truck
The state capital of Massachusetts, Boston is one of the oldest cities in the United States. Founded in 1630, Boston, and Bostonians like the patriot Paul Revere shown above, played a huge part in the American Revolution. Not just a city steeped in history, Boston is a major player in the economy today; estimated to be the 12th largest local economy in the world.
More than 630,000 people call Boston their home and it is growing larger in population each year. Even with all these neighbors and historic neighborhoods, The Hub remains a transit-friendly town. Known as “America’s Walking City”, the extensive transportation system helps you navigate the city smoothly. We welcome you to join us in Boston.
Helpful Tips for Your One-Way Move to Boston, Massachusetts
We have four truck rental facilities located in Boston, with many more in the surrounding area, and we are dedicated to making it easier for you to make your move. Here is some good information that may help you once you move to Boston.
- Allston Christmas – Well-known for its numerous colleges, Boston’s student population impacts the local rental market in a tremendous way. Every Labor Day, students are moving out of, into and between apartments throughout the city, with ~80% of apartment leases coming up for renewal on September 1st. Our biggest tip for Allston Christmas: “Moving Day is not Packing Day”. Whether you hire Moving Help or have your friends help you, being packed up and ready to go as soon as you wake up is incredibly important.
- Street Occupancy Permit – While not a requirement for parking your U-Haul moving truck in front of your new home, getting a Street Occupancy Permit from the City of Boston can certainly help you out if you’re moving on a popular day (see Allston Christmas above). These permits come at a cost, but they can mean the difference between parking in front of your new place or having to carry things from down the block (and up a hill, in the snow, both ways).
- Right Equipment at the Right Price – For busy moving days, such as September 1st, as well as for narrow streets or tricky parking, U-Haul has you covered. Many movers prefer our Cargo Vans or enclosed trailers for the tight spaces often found in Boston. You could also consider U-Box moving containers, with their small footprint and convenient delivery options. These alternatives can also make sure your move goes smoothly when larger trucks are in high-demand.
- River Roads are not for Moving Trucks – Following the river while navigating to your new home is not a good idea if you’re in a large vehicle. Don’t get Storrowed, be sure to find a route that takes your vehicle height into account.
- Easy to Get Around – The “T”, as Boston’s transportation system is known, helps keep the city very walkable. Per the City of Boston, “all of Boston’s downtown areas and neighborhoods are accessible by train, bus, trolley or water transportation”. With 1.3 million trips taken each day, we tend to agree with them. New citizens may find their guides particularly informative.
- Boston is a sports town – Boston has multiple professional sports teams, and the Bostonians support their teams religiously. If you are looking to meet new people; go buy a hat, it may just spark a new connection.
