My experience with renting a truck was absolutely fucking awful up until I got a reservation set up with Gardere Meat Market. I reserved a pickup truck for one location which took me 30+ minutes to get to and find out there is no pickup truck available. I was supposed to have been called about this truck not being available in advance and I NEVER GOT A CALL. I called the toll-free number and waited over 5+ minutes to get in touch with an agent. About 5-10 minutes into the call, both of us come to find out that a change was made to my reservation WITHOUT MY ACKNOWLEDGEMENT. On top of that, this location also took me 30+ minutes to drive to. In an effort to seek compensation, I was transferred to a regional scheduling team. I waited 10+ minutes to get transferred--only to be transferred TO THE WRONG TEAM; I was transferred to the New Orleans team, NOT the Baton Rouge team. I waited 5+ minutes to be transferred only to have the phone HUNG UP ON ME. I decided to drive out to the new location to get my reservation. As I drove out to this location, I waited 15+ minutes to get in touch with an agent via the toll free number--AGAIN. I was on the phone with the agent for a little under 5 minutes to explain my situation and was transferred to the scheduling team for Baton Rouge to be put on hold--AGAIN. By the time I got a scheduling assistant on the phone, I was already at the 2nd pickup location that, once again, was set up for me without my acknowledgement. The agent let me know there was no truck available in my area at this time, so I ended up driving out there for NOTHING. The scheduling assistant was able to help me reserve a cargo van instead, and they were unable to guarantee me that I was going to have a full 9' to work with in the cargo area. I had to go home, which was ANOTHER 30 MINUTES OF DRIVING, and get a measuring tape to figure that out myself after getting to the pick-up location. The pick-up location was not that far from home, thankfully. Pick-up and drop-off was smooth afterwards. I did end up getting $50 back as compensation. However, I do not believe that this is enough as compensation for the amount of time and gas money I wasted because of your scheduling team's failure to communicate with me ahead of my scheduled pick-up time. This chain of unfortunate events left me anxious throughout my entire time renting out the cargo van, waiting to see how else U-HAUL was going to screw me over. I will advise my friends and family to avoid working with U-HAUL if at all possible; otherwise, I will ensure that they are aware of my experience and are able to prepare for the worst case scenario being the scheduling team's incompetence. I hope upper management sees this review and does something about Baton Rouge's scheduling team. If they're unable to compensate me for more than $50, I at least hope nobody else has to deal with this bullshit that I did.

SAID MActually be able to provide the truck that was reserved. Overall abysmal experience that completely messed up my planned move and I will never use U-haul again. I’ll still with Penske as I usually do.
John II initially reserved a 20 foot uhual truck but wasn't told it was unavailable until the day before. I was given a 26 footer instead which still worked out fine. Outside of that the service was excellent.
