My rating is based on use of this facility for over 2 years. In the wake of the devastating Lahaina wild fire, we needed a storage space to store our items until we could figure out where we could live. I stashed our goods that made it into this facility and moved off island, delaying where we would move our stored items until life could settle and we would know where we wanted to live.. Staff: Some of the staff are friendly, some of the staff are quite grumpy....it's mixed. Theres an old guy that lurks outside who probably is a facilty manager who has a sub par demeanor, He seems like he's more concerned with being a police officer of the facility rather then being friendly. The girls inside I've had to deal with are mostly ok, but most aren't completely sure what the answers are if you have a more complicated question. In several instances the staff made errors that cost me time and or money in my move both in but also most recently out. As an example, I had 2 UBoxes that were confirmed to be available to have accessible for loading/and unloading at the Kahului facility on a specific date. I flew in from an outer island with the understanding of the availability for access on that particular day. I could have flown in a day later. This dated access was confirmed on the phone TWICE on separate occasions with a representative from THIS facility leading up to my anticipated move out date. Upon arrival at Uhaul, I was told on their record of access for these UBOXES it was actually noted for the following day! Oh, and there was nothing they could do to get the Uboxes moved into place that day!! I was told at 11 am, "sorry we can't move the UBOX's today it's scheduled for tmmrw". I pleaded to no avail. This was despite having their forklift driver on site on the forklift right by the outside access area. My thought was, can't you just move them at least to the side of the building in their giant massive parking lot? Trust me when I say they're not short on space. This facility used to be a Kmart, so the lot is massive and there's only a handful of cars parked on the lot . I was willing to even wait for a few hours until this could be done. This was my sole purpose for being there on that date at that time. Unsatisfactory to say the least. I had to pay an extra day of hotel, car and pay to move my flight for their error! The facility: Anytime you access this facility every few minutes there will be sirens blaring due to their ridiculous access system. Even their employees roll their eyes and have explained how dumb the access is. Try moving in and/or out of a 3 units that you spend hours loading/unloading and you have to hear a torturous alarm going on and and off the whole time! And if that doesn't bother you, their lights are on a motion timer and after 5-10 mins they go dark. Good luck not killing yourself falling over boxes in your dark unit to go waive your arm where the light will come back on. Customer Experience: Then there's the over the top and offensive and aggressive billing system. Upon move in you have to put an alternate contact and address. They say it's required supposedly to get a unit. On a couple occasions when the monthly dues were run, my cc card was full and the charge was rejected. Of course my bad. Thats fine. What I don't appreciate is that immediately (like within a couple days), an intimidating collection letter is sent to both you AND the alternate contact! It's worded like the alternate is too personally responsible and UHAUL will aggressively pursue both parties. All for being a couple days late on the monthly rent. Charge a late fee but geeez take a chill pill. In addition, you're signed up at an intro rate, but trust that if you're there long enough your rent will go UP and UP and UP. This facility is run cutthroat and they will squeeze every dime out of you they possibly can. Cleanliness: Then there's the biggest issue's in my opinion. This facility has a MASSIVE mouse and rat problem. They can't hide it. There's traps everywhere, including in some units. There's rodent urine stains everywhere and you can smell it. In clearing out my units, I had numerous items destroyed by rats and mice. Unacceptable. They also have a homeless issue they seem to embrace to some degree. Every time I've been there they have homeless people coming into use the bathroom. What I can't figure is, they don't have access cards so are they just being let in via the camera's? Dunno, but they're there. If you're a single female or have kids I wouldn't wander down the long corridors to go use the restroom alone. There's no one else around usually. There's better storage options on MAUI. Over the years I've used the others too. They don't have any of these issues and make your life way easier. Don't use this facility. I spent thousands of dollars over 2 + years at UHaul Kahului. I will never use them again. I will never use UHAUL storage anywhere again. Terrible experience.

On a down note, the truck had such a dirty windshield inside that it was dangerous after the sunset. The first truck I was assigned had to be changed because the driver seat leaver does not work, and the tire sensor came on making the driver aware that the tires were low on air.
