When I picked up the vehicle, I found someone else’s used paper drink cup under the front passenger seat. This clearly indicates that the vehicle had not been properly cleaned before it was rented to us, as we did not have or use any paper drink cups during our move. In addition, there was something spilled in the cup holders, and the entire area was sticky. It was very unpleasant to get into a rental vehicle and immediately find dirty, sticky surfaces that should have been cleaned before the vehicle was provided to a customer. More importantly, after we had already fully loaded the vehicle, we discovered that the locking mechanism for the cargo door was not functioning properly. The key could be inserted and turned, but the lock itself could not actually secure the door. The locking mechanism was also extremely difficult to operate. I consider this a serious issue because the ability to properly secure a fully loaded moving vehicle is an essential safety and security requirement. A vehicle should not be rented to a customer in this condition, especially when the problem is only discovered after the customer has already spent considerable time loading all of their belongings. Overall, the vehicle was provided to us in an unacceptable condition, both in terms of cleanliness and, more importantly, the functionality of an essential locking mechanism.
