The employees at the site were nice and polite, however, the truck was not in good shape. I had an urgent appointment in Boone to pick up furniture by a scheduled time so I had to take the truck as it was when I got in. Under normal circumstances I would’ve gone back in and let them know I could not use the truck. It had indicator lights on for tire pressure and the check engine line as soon as I started driving it. Whe. I returned to the store just before 8 pm they were closing. The female employee at the store said I’d have to complete the check out final process myself on the U-Haul app because the male employee that helped me when I picked up the truck had allowed me to start the process on the app. She stated since it was started in the app I had to finish it on the app. This proved to be time consuming and tedious because the app requires me to take all sorts of photos of the truck and upload them plus enter the mileage. I had a lot of difficulty trying to get the correct current mileage to display in n the odometer because all the indicator lights were on which didn’t allow me to view the mileage. I had to get back in the truck and start it and press buttons to try to get the odometer mileage to display for a photo and do I could enter the mileage in the app then upload a photo of the odometer. The lady from knob hardware came out to check on me since she was closing the store. She was polite but she didn’t know how to find the mileage either and she seemed worried and surprised that the tire pressure lights and check engine light were on when I was driving to pick up the furniture. I explained I had a tight timeline to pick the stuff up and had to go braise the check in process took a really long time when I picked the truck up. I explained that the man working at the hardware when I picked up the truck was very nice but was working by himself and it was really busy in the store and the phone kept ringing too. Another male Hispanic man came behind the counter while I was waiting but he didn’t help with the phone or with customers and he seemed to be working on a different task in the back of the store. The female employee looked at the display of the truck and said she thought I had gotten the correct mileage to come up in the odometer and to write it down that it was probably correct. She asked me if I put air in the tires or looked to see why the engine light was on. I told her I didn’t feel comfortable putting air in the tires or doing any maintenance because I’m not a mechanic and I didn’t want to be responsible for any issues with the truck. She agreed and said she understood that and she stated they would take care of the issues with the truck before it is rented again. I feel like I may have been overcharged possibly due to the mileage on the display not showing correctly since the indicator lights for tires and engine were on and were overriding the normal display. I drove to Boone and back wihivh would be about 90 miles. The estimate was around $165 I believe and I was charged around $212 when I returned. I feel like I would rather have employees on site that actually know about the trucks they are renting and I would prefer to have a truck that is properly maintained and safe to drive and to not be overcharged next time. Thank you
