I reserved a 10-foot truck for a time-sensitive move, only to find the lockbox completely empty when I arrived at 6:45 am. Customer service had me try every single lockbox—all of them were empty. Worse, they couldn’t get the local dealer to answer their phones. I ended up waiting over two hours until someone finally showed up late to open the doors. The dealer blamed a “new employee,” offered a pathetic mileage discount as “compensation,” and handed me a truck that wasn’t even half-full on gas. When I returned it, the staff were unprofessional and indifferent. Calls to customer service were no better—dismissive, unhelpful, and no follow-through on promised credits. I was ultimately overcharged by $100 despite being promised otherwise. What should have been a simple rental turned into a day-ruining disaster. U-Haul’s own app, customer service, and this Danville, CA location all failed spectacularly. Zero accountability, zero empathy, and zero professionalism. I spent $322 for an experience that threw off my entire move, caused me to reschedule multiple services, and wasted hours of my time. U-Haul has been around for 80 years, but if this is the level of service they allow, it’s hard to believe they’ll make it another 80. Do yourself a favor: rent anywhere else.

XIANGTAO LFirst time renting, the U-Haul was not assigned to me in time. This was before the store would open so I had to wait another hour till they opened to pick up the truck. Second time renting, we were not informed on the combination lock for the rear door. I arrived at my location and noticed the lock. Called the location but they had closed. Was able to get help through U-Haul’s customer service. Next time I will go directly through U-Haul and not a third party location.
