Despite being told by Tony (a U‑Haul employee who called from 417‑887‑5832) that my rental was set up for 24/7 pickup, the app directed me to Counter Service instead. That contradiction alone caused unnecessary delay. When I finally located the truck, its condition was unacceptable. The cab was filthy—half‑empty soda bottles left behind, a sticky dried substance covering multiple surfaces, and mud caked across the floorboards. It looked as if a soda bottle had exploded inside the cab. The mess was so bad that I had to spend roughly 40 minutes cleaning it just to avoid ruining my clothes. Outside, the truck had mud packed under the bumpers, several inches up the tires, and even had an engine cover hanging loose underneath the front end. Inside the pickup location (Haymakers), I was told I “hadn’t completed the online registration,” even though I had—and the app had specifically instructed me to go inside. I was then informed that the moving blankets and appliance dolly I reserved were not available. The staff member was initially curt until she acknowledged that the issues were caused by U‑Haul’s system, not me. All told, these problems resulted in over 2.4 hours spent just trying to check out the truck, plus the additional time required to clean the interior enough to use it. We were on the schedule that resulted in us not arriving at our destination until after midnight when our scheduled arrival was 9pm. This was one of the most frustrating rental experiences I’ve had, and it fell far below the standard I expect from U‑Haul.

They need to lubricate the hinges on the door that the key was housed in. I literally had to pry it open with my pocket screwdriver to get it open.
