It was the first time I did the self-service checkout, and I was completely clueless about how the process worked. Perhaps I missed that specific communication, but maybe it can/should be more prominent and clear in the rental booking and pick-up process. Bigger sign at the facility stating "U-Haul Customer Pick-Up, Scan Here" would help.
