My family (son and daughter) successfully moved from a rental unit to storage in Castlegar on August 31st 2019 thanks to the extraordinary effort of the Trail U-haul office. Further I have been a happy U-haul customer for many years. That is the good news. The move did not go without hitches and I would like to relate a couple of them to you. Threatening On Saturday August 31st at 12:48pm I received a call (778)868-8262 from an agitated U-haul dispatcher (403)235-1125 claiming my son did not complete the contract and phone sign-in procedure at the Trail U-haul when he picked up the 20 ft truck. My son on departing the Trail U-haul office asked the attendant that was present whether anything else was required and she said no. I told the U-haul dispatcher that we arranged to pick up the truck in Trail even though they are officially closed on Saturday. Further, Trail does not have Bluetooth signout contrary to head office records. The dispatcher said he had to go back and if he didn’t she would report the truck stolen and have my children arrested. RCMP protocol is to do an armed take down of a stolen vehicle. A shudder to think what the reaction could be when the stolen vehicle is called in by a U-haul dispatcher. I told the dispatcher that I would message my son. At 1:03 pm I phone the dispatcher and informed her that my son would be heading back to Trail to complete the contract and that I would like recordings of our phone conversations. By this time my son and daughter had already made it back to Castlegar. The dispatcher’s requirements added both mileage and time to the move process. I understand the need for proper contracting procedures. However, there is clearly a contract in place and I had taken full insurance on the vehicle so there was no risk of loss to the company. Late notice of lack of availability of truck On Friday August 30th at approximately 8:00 am I received a call from a U-haul dispatcher (403)235-1125 indicating that the 10ft truck we reserved was not available and that they would be substituting a 26ft truck in Castlegar and that a 20 ft truck was available in Trail. I viewed the 26ft at the local U-haul. It was huge and completely inappropriate equipment for a one-bedroom size move to local storage. So I opted for the 20ft truck in Trail and we made the booking. Having to book a truck from Trail added to the cost of mileage and gas and contributed time to the whole process. If we used the Castlegar 10 ft truck for an in town move to storage it would have taken under 4 hours. As it was, it turned into a marathon move of between 12 and 14 hours. The centralized / regional dispatch of vehicles smacks of a head office initiative. It is heavy handed, arbitrary, ill-conceived and poorly executed. It ignores the reality of small town issues, for example, no automated sign out and adaptive use of informal manual tried and true procedures. It is not responsive to customer needs, for example, short notice of equipment una

I would not use uhaul at any location again! No customer service from uhaul. Prebooking a truck is no guarantee you will get one when and where you need it. Stressful thing when you are moving and rely on your rental being there.

They charged us 3 days for 2 days of use. Uhaul offers motorcycle specific trailer when they do not have that at this location.

It was closed on a Sunday. It was convenient for me to drop it off at the Trail location. I have dealt with this location before ... there service is great!

Both the reps were knowledgeable and personable. They saw to it that all my questions were answered. Also that I received the required reimbursements regarding my contract change, as a result from a location drop off point change, due to a change in my plans. Great service overall.
