They were having significant issues with their computers. They could not get into their computers to look at my reservation. They did not have the moving mats I had reserved (although offered me two they found around the shop that were very dirty and unacceptable). I would have forgiven all that, however the person assigned to connect my trailer did not know what he was doing. He had no idea what to do with the third chain, which he proceeded to "drape" across the hitch (which would have lasted about two minutes on the road). He couldn't figure out why the thing over the hitch was "floppy". Well, it was because the hitch was not actually seated properly. Once my nephew got it in place it was secure. My nephew and I ended up pulling out bungie cords and securing the "extra" chain and getting the hitch hooked up properly. He was a nice enough guy but really had no idea what he was doing. He did nothing to make me feel comfortable that it would be safe to drive 2+ hours on the interstate. He was joking that he was 94% sure it was ok. Comforting. It took 54 minutes to pick up the trailer and there was not another customer in sight. Unacceptable service. When I dropped it off at another location the guy at this location took one look and said "what happened here?". He too was horrified.

The folks at the pick-up facility tried very hard to complete the transaction, they were patient and apologetic. However, the computer system that UHaul uses is very confusing and unreliable. It took almost 1 hour to complete a transaction that should take 5 minutes. The messages sent to my cell phone from Uhaul contained links for me to respond. EVERY time I used the links a message appeared showing the system was not available and I should try later. This in NOT something I can respond to while I'm traveling down the road with a piece of equipment that requires my attention. Eventually the message stated my time had expired to reply. When I brought my UHaul rental to the designated drop-off location they were not aware that I was dropping off the equipment. They were not familiar with the process for a drop off. I was told to "just park it over there and UHaul will automatically be notified by the App on your phone". I tried several ways to report to UHaul that I had dropped off the equipment at the designated drop-off point and requested confirmation from UHaul. The reply did not come until the following day. My impression is that UHaul puts most of the responsibility for a rental on the customer. This is not what I expected. It was very disappointing.
