To rent the vehicle, it asks for 2 references to call. I find that tacky to do to someone desperate to just get in the truck, where now I'm putting other people's contact info out there that didn't necessarily ask for that (and thinking now Uhaul is going to put them in their marketing schema). It is also a 45 min process to do self-serve, and though i'm pretty tech savvy, the number of questions and pictures to upload was egregious. Lastly, I have a photo on my phone that said if i fill the tank 1/4 ways (it was at 3/16) i would get a fuel adjustment of $24. Not only did that refund not show up automatically, but even when I chatted, jeremy said he only sees a $7 adjustment so that's what I got. I wouldn't have put $25 in the tank for 39 miles, had I known. So those two items led to a rather poor experience. The one golden moment was when I called up to extend my time, and the rep was American (a breathe of fresh air now-a-days), jovial, and accomodating.

Was using virtual pickup since the location was not open at the times I needed, but they were the only local venue with a van. First location in Hamilton, NJ did not assign the van. U-Haul customer service assigned the van, yet the location had not put the van’s key in the lockbox. A second call to U-Haul customer service, which found an alternative location with a van, which added 15 miles to my rental cost. I still need this additional cost refunded. The second location was clean, the van was clean and prepared, and the keys were in the lockbox.
