They charged us $15 for insurance and did not ask if we wanted it. He said he asked if i wanted the insurance, but I know he did not as I always decline it. He argued with me and did not offer to repay me. I thought that was sneaky and unprofessional.

I would like to start by saying that the help I received at this location was very good. When they found out how far they were from my location they called me back and arranged for an earlier pick up time (when I made my original booking, I booked the earliest time I could at my preferred location so that was the time that moved forward with my request. However, the alternate location opened earlier and if they had not called me back to change the time, I would have been stuck with the later pick up). Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond their control, it took almost an hour to sort out the paperwork to pick my rental up. There was a problem with the computing system which took the agent almost an hour to sort out with the assistance of the agent equivalent of customer service. The rental charges were showing up as over $600 for a one day rental of a 10' truck. It took several attempts and phone calls to manually sort it out. Additionally, the amount of fuel calculated remaining in the truck was almost 1/4 of a tank more than the fuel gauge in the truck was showing which necessitated a return to the agent (the trucks are stored a few blocks away from the reception at this location) and more phone calls to sort that out. Not sure what the issue was but it seems the computer-generated fuel calculation tool is not accurate enough and fuel in the vehicle should be done the old fashioned way where the agent actually looks at the gauge with the customer and that is what is recorded. Also, I made the effort to book on-line in advance only to have a pick up location over 20 km from my preferred location/starting point. Finding that out only the day before made it very hard to change plans. Very frustrating when there were at least 7 locations much closer, 5 less than 3 km away. This added a lot of extra driving time which when added with the time to sort out the pick up, made for a very tight timeline as we were leaving the mainland and had a ferry booking, which if we missed would mean having to stay another day and adding those costs onto the move. In an effort to change the booking, I called Scheduling, as directed on the correspondence, and spent over 25 minutes on hold. When I finally spoke to someone, they transferred me to scheduling, which I found strange as the number I had called supposedly was the Scheduling number, and then was on hold for a further 10 minutes. It would have been faster for me to call the 7 closer locations directly for help than using the Customer Service number. I was concerned about going into my account and trying to change any schedule changes on-line as it was apparent that I had no control over any change requests, and I did not know what location would be sent to me if I did make a request - perhaps one even farther away than the one currently assigned to me. Also, I was told by a customer agent on the chat line, that booking in advance only guarantees the rate, not the locations, but I had n

Another location made my reservation. They never asked if I wanted insurance, but signed me up for it anyway. When I went to pick up my vehicle, the cashier wasn’t familiar with the process and I had to wait for the manager to come to work. The manager was very nice and such a great guy to deal with. He was amazing. All said and done I got my vehicle and upon return, paid the full amount, including the insurance I didn’t want. I brought it up to him but he said he can’t do anything and I should call U-Haul (which I’m not going to do to save $15). I will not reccomend U-Haul to anyone unless they have lots of time to deal with the pickup process. This is my second time using U-Haul and both times were painful.
