Had requested a trailer a few days prior, pick up in Chatsworth and drop off in Walkerton the next day, around $80. Was travelling from Chatsworth to Grand Valley and back. Showed up, did the transaction, credit card billed. only to find out the trailer was buried in snow, couldn't get at it. Offered me to pick up one in Meaford, I declined as I was on a time crunch. Gave me an option to rent the big U-Haul truck so I did $111. Credit card charged, Had to drop off by 5 pm back at motel, this was now 11:30. In the meantime my wife was on the phone with U-Haul about the situation. Got the $80 for the trailer rental reversed back into my account. The guy at the hotel did not check the gas level, odometer or anything, just the lights. Truck had less then 1/2 tank. Put $25 in the tank before I returned it at 5. The guy at the hotel took a photo and odometer reading for the invoice. Said I left with 1/2 tank and returned with 1/8th of a tank. Was billed another $200 plus taken from my card, like $90 for mileage, $30 gas surcharge, almost $100 for gas and taxes. So from Chatsworth to Grand Valley 1 way cost me $300. Waiting for my wife to reach out again. Would not recommend renting a U-Haul period, and the guy at the Key Motel in Chatsworth was very snappy to my wife on the phone, turned it all over to the U-Haul company.

The manager of this location needs to be fired. The language barrier was bad...he spoke terrible English. A couple friends and myself were on a snowmobile trip to Chatsworth. My snowmobile broke down just as we got to the motel, so I was looking for a van to transport it home. We thought we had lucked out when we saw that there was a U-Haul franchise there. There was a 20 foot van onsite that was covered in 2 feet of snow and was stuck in a snowbank. At first, the manager didn't seem like he was interested in checking into the possibility of getting another vehicle in for me to use. He came down to our room a while later with someone from U-Haul on the phone for me to talk to about a van. The gentleman on the phone was awesome to deal with....no accent...perfect English. I needed a 10 foot van to accommodate my snowmobile. The guy on the phone told me he didn't have access to a 10 foot but could supply me with a 15 foot for the same price as 10. The 15 foot van was delivered a couple hours later. The driver that delivered the van got stuck in the unplowed motel parking lot. It took him 10 minutes to get out of the parking lot. The motel manager finally got his tractor and snowblower out to clean the parking lot a couple hours after the van got delivered. When he got the parking lot blown out except for where the van was sitting, he tried moving the van which by this time had settled into the snow far enough to be stuck as well. He told me and my friends that if I wanted to use the van, we would have to help push it out of the snow. We reluctantly helped get the van unstuck for about half an hour. Finally we got it out. If one of us would have gotten hurt pushing the van out, it wouldn't have been good. We all have wives and families to support and don't need time off work because we helped push a van out of a snowbank. A proper manager would have figured out a solution instead of asking the customers to help. It was clear sailing after I got away from the motel and the manager from hell. He didn't offer us any kind of compensation for helping to get the van unstuck. He should have gotten a tow truck to come in and get the van moving which would have cost him some money. If he kept his parking lot clean, most of this could have been avoided. His lack of responsibility made this the experience from hell.
