I had reserved a truck at a location closer to my house, but the afternoon the day before I was called by U-Haul to ask if I would mind picking the truck up at a different location. The agent explained that it was a new location providing their services and they were trying to help them get business going. They gave me a $5 discount on the truck rental and adjusted the mileage charge slightly. We did not expect a high end luxury vehicle for use as a U-Haul truck, and we weren't disappointed. The truck was fine. It was not filthy, but it had sand on the floors under and around the front seats. It wasn't clean, but it was fine. What really took them down from being a location I'd refer a friend to is the ridiculous customer service situation. We were told when we picked up the keys that the truck was a 1/4 tank and it would need to be returned the same way. Made sense. We got in the truck and drove a little more than a mile down the road when we noticed the line was not actually on the 1/4 tank mark, but under it. Since we hadn't gone even 1-1/2 miles we took a picture because it shouldn't have moved that much in less than a mile and a half. When we returned it, we went to the gas station across the street and filled it til the marker was at the 1/4 tank. We drove across the street, parked it and gave the keys back. About 10 minutes later we got a call from the representative for Munoz Auto saying that the gas gauge was at a sliver under the 1/4 tank mark and so they would have to charge us $11 for gas and $30 for "servicing" the vehicle. We had a picture from when were just down the road after picking up the truck that showed it was already at a sliver below the 1/4 tank mark when we got it, but the representative insisted that since they were not actually "U-Haul" the system would charge us, not them so there was nothing they could do. We had the truck for only a few hours and had reserved it for several hours longer than we'd kept it, but having to turn around to avoid an additional $41 in charges just soured our use of this location ever again. We should have taken a picture of the gas marker as soon as we got in the truck instead of down the road. We noticed that when the truck is on an incline, the gas gauge is a little off from when the vehicle is on flat ground and think that had to do with them finding it to be a "sliver" below the mark.
