since the location was open, I chose to go inside instead of doing the online check-in. I asked if I should do the online process and was told - no, I will just have to go over it anyway. The person was not very helpful and surely gave off the vibe that I was interrupting his day. I dropped off the truck at 7:30 am but the check-in wasn't recorded until 1:15 pm just 30 minutes before the 24 hour window

Wendy MU-Haul tech had a very difficult time removing the coiled wire retention clips from my hitch. I have also experienced this a couple of times myself on previous rentals. Although the coild wire is a better solution than chains, they are very difficult to remove. You should look into alternate clips.
