Missing equipment from rental. Delayed my move and had to purchase equipment. Prepaid so everything would be all set and the only thing I had was a truck. Had to spend over and hour and a half on the phone with customer service to refund my prepaid equipment rental. Will never use U-Haul again.

Wonderful staff. Very helpful and friendly. The two of them attended to the line of customers as fast as they could. They connected and disconnected the trailer securely and professionally. I felt they took good care of me.

The U-Haul app did not work for a contactless rental, I could not complete the transaction using the app. It required me to chat with someone in California or in the Pacific Time zone, and when providing the PMI the agent never called my wife to confirm my identity and left me hanging in the parking lot for 20+ minutes. I eventually had to go into the store. This made it a contact rental which I was trying to avoid due to COVID-19. Incredibly interesting my return which was after hours worked. Could that have something to do with the location being manned. The staff or nice but it didn't meet my expectations contactless rental. Fix the issue.

Truck was dirty and had 1/4 tank of gas. I was told this is normal but I have never rented a truck that wasn't full at time of rental. How am I supposed to bring it back with an exact quarter tank. Seems like a ploy to get more on the back end!

Moving blankets from previous renter left in trailer. This was discovered after we picked it up and got to our house. Issue with contract, said I signed up for insurance policy when I had opted out online.

Checkout and check-in were both efficient. Staff helpful. Truck had some water in the bed from the overnight rain and the staff person quickly helped me get it out. The truck was due for an oil change. Overall, exactly what we needed at a reasonable price.

I was able to pick up my U-Haul rental with ease (because of self-checkin and pre-checkin) and the move went by without a hitch! The only thing I have to say is, for some reason this U-Haul location is inundated with customers. There were many customers dropping off and picking up rentals, and there was a long line inside the store/office. I'm assuming it's because these same customers had their reservations transferred over to this Herndon location at the last minute as well (this is what happened to me). Plus, it seemed that this Herndon location was short-staffed—there were only two employees at my time of arrival. So please either provide more rentals to more of your locations, or help out your Herndon location because the two workers that were there were working hard but they seemed visibly stressed.

I did an after-hours return of a car dolly at this location, but the parking lot was so full of return trucks that I was unable to pull into the parking lot to unhook the trailer. I just ended up parking in the street and hand-pushing the trailer into the lot. No big deal since it was just a car dolly, but this may have been rough if it was something bigger. This was a Sunday evening, so that may have been a factor with the amount of returns in the lot. Location was well-lighted and appeared to be very clean.

They were unprofessional when we arrived joking if we brought lunch. We kept the truck two extra days (not intended but our move took longer), and we locked ourselves out. We were called and pesters to bring the truck back. When I called to inquire about a spare key they told me to call my insurance company. Then they told me not to yell at them, which I never did. I returned the van with full tank of gas and it cost me $175.00 for 4 days, 51 miles. I will not be renting another U-Haul.

I had a very difficult time returning my vehicle with the online service. When I tried calling the contact number, I was on hold for 45 minutes. While everything else ran smoothly, this hiccup left a bad taste in my mouth.

When a customer decides to rent a truck online. Do not wait until the day of pick up and tell them they are receiving something else like a bigger size. I rented a 15' and they tried to give me a 17'. That does not work for me which caused a delay in moving and a delay in the whole day. Give the customer what they asked for the first time.

Your mobile app didn't work at all, I kept getting an error 500 when I was using the app to pick up the van. I had to go inside and wait. Then during drop off after uploading pictures of the interior and cargo area, the app hung.

Provide adequate staffing. This large operation was being operated by one lone overworked individual running from reception desk to garage area to check-out/check-in, etc. , leaving customers with waits at each stage of the process.

The truck really needed to be "aired-out", deodorized, or had some type of air freshener in it. Also, the brake rotors appear to require maintenance (turning). I say this because I noticed a lot of vibration in the truck when I was braking. Why doesn't Uhaul offer delivery and pickup services; especially under the current COVID-19 pandemic conditions?

Air conditioning was not working. I called customer care, they said the main office will call me back but no response. It was 91 degrees in Herndon, VA. I will like to receive compensation or money returned for such a horrible experience.


I liked how everything was automated, pictures, phone, etc. Quick pickup and drop off!
