How U-Haul Reviews WorkProperly prepare equipment prior to rental and properly inspect all lights and signals at time of rental and prior to dispatching the equipment with the customer.
Michael TEverything went wrong. Our pickup location for the truck changed LAST minute (at around 7 pm the night before) to a further location from us (much further in mileage and time), which added mileage on to the truck (why is why were over mileage). Our truck did not have ANY of the CONFIRMED/GUARANTEED equipment we reserved (utility or furniture dolly), but instead had the only thing we did not request (an appliance dolly). It took a while to check in and get the truck to begin with because no official u haul representative that knew anything about the current operating system was there. We arrived and all of the personnel there were confused and said "Sorry this is our first time using this system." They were operating out of the HVAC company. So overall, it took over an hour to get the truck with the wrong equipment in the back when it was supposed to be a quick and easy mobile check in. Then we still needed to pick up the auto trailer at the original uhaul location. So overall, we lost 1 hr and about 45 min picking up the uhaul equipment instead of being able to use that time to start loading and packing to move out the next day. Then, I asked the guy who gave us the truck if he knew if the time mattered (I.e if the 2 allowable days on the truck - if it mattered if we dropped it off at the same time 2 days later or if the time wasn't an issue as long as it was dropped off the second day- so in our case any time Saturday since we picked it up Thursday). He said yes and reassured me multiple times- that "they don't care about the time as long as it's on that second day, they only care about the mileage." So I operated under this fact that I was told and we returned the truck Saturday evening and then U-Haul tried to charge me a late fee for the truck and equipment for turning it in "late". - [ ] I was going to call and ask for a partial refund for all this hassle, but instead I was being asked to pay more at drop off, which I clicked the option “I don’t agree with the charges and explained all this.” I do want a refund still at least for the extra mileage because this was not our fault, this was due to the last minute further away pick up location- which accounted for the extra mileage (we were just over). Otherwise, I had accounted for all the places we needed to go with the truck and we would have been just at allowed mileage.
