Unfortunately, this rental was one of the worst experiences of my life. The truck was at 1/8 a tank when we left at 10:30am, and as soon as we put gas in it, all of it immediately leaked out of the tank. The gas station had to call the fire department and temporarily shut down due to the hazard. Roadside assistance was absolutely zero help. My dad risked his life driving back to the rental location to switch trucks. No one helped him move any of the furniture from the leaking truck into the new rental; my dad is 65 years old. I find it unacceptable that no one even tried to help him; he had to ask the employees of the facility for a bottle of cold water. Absolutely terrible customer service. To make matters worse, my dad stopped for gas again halfway to our destination and the same thing happened — all the gas immediately leaked out of the truck! He again risked his life to drive the rest of the way to the destination as it was passed 7pm by that point and all U-Haul locations in the area were closed. Finally, after we arrived, roadside assistance got in touch with us and offered to patch the tank of the leaking truck. We were appalled and demanded they tow the truck, as it was extremely unsafe to even have on the property, let alone to drive to the drop off location with a patch—as if it’s a tire!—keeping it from leaking gas everywhere. This was hands down the worst experience of our lives with any company. U-Haul put our lives at risk multiple times and was willing to do it again by having us continue to drive vehicles the fire department clearly said were unsafe to operate. 0/10 service and -10/10 quality; I am currently in touch with legal counsel regarding this situation.
