I would suggest every vehicle starts off with 1/2 tank of gas, most peeps are not factoring in time to stop and get gas when they initially get the truck. Love this location and the staff we have worked with!

The Dixwell Ave. Hamden station is more attractive than the State St. New Haven station. But the personnel at both were helpful, polite, and efficient. Excellent crews at both places, and well trained.

The staff on the office were not particularly interested in customer service. Rude about what is available online vs. their equipment. We needed the truck for 2 days and they told is we could ONLY have it for 8 hours. Also it took her forever to finish all three of the online transactions ours included. We stood waiting to get the key etc for over half an hour. If there is an online reservation we should be able to get what we reserve for the time we have reserved it regardless of what they need. And the staff, if again it's an online reservation, should take no more than 5 minutes to finish the transaction not 15-20 per person. And frankly the ONLY reason we used that location was the availability of a 26'truck. This location could leave a lot from the Ernie & Son's location in East Haven CT. Never using this location again. And if I want a truck and I'm willing to pay for it for 2 days as advertised on the website, I will keep it without penalty as I was threatened by the staff. They should be ashamed of themselves.

The u-haul app picked a truck buried 4 deep. Took forever for the u-haul employee to move the 3 trucks in front of it. He was trying to help 2 of us at the same time. He worked very slow. Took over a half hour to get out of the lot and this was AFTER u-haul changed my pick up location without notifying me.

A tow dolly for pulling a small SUV was hooked up by the U-Haul employee incorrectly -- completely wrong. It ended up being extremely dangerous to drive and we had to stop and try to get it fixed. After a few hours of calling U-Haul Roadside Assistance and getting no help and being told it was our fault (or more precisely, our "car's fault?"), U-Haul finally realized we were serious (only after I pointed out that there was probably some liability on U-Haul's end) and found a solution that involved driving to a hardware store that contracted with U-Haul. Our vehicle is now damaged, however, as a function of how the tow dolly was hooked up, and we'll be seeking compensation.

Pick-up experience itself was confusing. Maybe I cuaused some of it. The day before my rental, I tried to change my pick-up time from 2 PM to 11 AM. After a very long wait on the phone, I was disconnected before reaching the traffic department. So I figured I would just do it on-line. Which I did. But when I showed up for my truck at 1130 at State Street location in Hamden, that change had not been made and the place had short term rented it out planning on my being there around 2 PM. But he was nice enough to call the main New Haven location and got me one there. On the very short ride down State Street to that location, though, I received a text from U-Haul stating my 12:15 pick-up at the Whitney Avenue location in Hamden was ready. New Haven let me take one of their trucks anyway. Then at 2 PM I received a call from that Whitney location asking if I still needed the truck. No.

The address wasn't difficult to find, but the U-haul office was. The building is a large, mostly empty, mixed-use, warehouse in which other businesses are housed. There are two entrances, one on either end of this incredibly long building. When I called U-haul, I was frustrated that I was speaking with an operator who was at a remote location and couldn't tell me where the office was. After finding the location and waiting in line to speak with a representative, getting them to undo the tow dolly so I could proceed to my location and unload the truck was truly an ordeal, as the employees seemingly disappeared out of thin air. There was one man, the fellow who checked me in when I returned the truck, who was great, and who keeps this facility's rating from being "Poor" instead of just "Average."

When I made the reservation for what I thought was a cargo trailer only to discover when I went to confirm was I made aware that it had I believe due to availability in the area switched it to a utility trailer. Upon learning of this I immediately got on the phone in efforts to find a covered trailer. The first person I spoke with a Shelby at your area code 845 service center who was not customer focused and in my trying to tell her that the website reservation system was misleading and that it should be made more obvious as to what is actually being reserved before making the final click. She told me that they had checked my reservation and that it was a "utility" trailer all along, told her again it was not obvious and that she should share this with the web team and please help me find a covered trailer at which point she hung up on me. I called the main customer service line and was fortunate to speak to a Joe in Florida who not only located a covered trailer for me but made arrangements for me to drop it off at a more convenient location for which I am very grateful.
