How U-Haul Reviews WorkTransparent rate charges. If I rent a truck for 29.95 plus tax and fees and have to pay $0.99 per mile, I expect to pay the 29.95 plus the taxes and fees and I expect to pay the $0.99 per mile not an additional nearly 20 bucks. I will not be using a U-Haul service ever again after this. I drove 12 miles in one truck and had to pay nearly $75.00 for it. Rate I agreed to was only $29.95 for the day. After taxes and fees I expected to pay around 50 instead over 70 was what I was charged.
