None of what occurred is the particular store or person at the store fault. It is Uhauls system. I wouldn’t recommend any haul to a friend. We arrived at the original Salem turnpike location and no one could get the lock unlocked to retrieve a key. The store employee and a phone representative tried to help us and no one could get it unlocked. After 45 minutes we were sent to another location for a different truck. We were told we’d be charged a flat $100 and never got a a refund. I will not be renting U-Haul unless it is the absolute less thing available. Absolutely tricuspid that the trick is there on the lot and no one is available to retrieve the keys for it. If there had not been another trick available we would’ve been screwed. For no good reason.

FIne experience, no problems with anything. The owner did say that the U-haul business was really slow here since Covid. No problems with the owner/personnel/service of the business, only reason not to "recommend to a friend" is this facility seemed to be in a pretty sketchy part of town and the U-haul lot and office are not immediately adjacent to each other (and it's not immediately obvious where the office is that you have to walk to). Probably for people who know the city and its areas well, this is a fine location. (It's close to the downtown, so if a u-haul is needed there, or in the southern part of the city, it may very well be very good.)
Bruce MI was switched to this location the afternoon before my pickup day. I was not informed this would be a self pickup or that I needed to do a check-in on the app to get the keys. I was only given an address and told I needed to go there. The key box was on a fence in front of the building and the uhaul was parked almost a block away in an open lot. There is no parking at this location if the auto shop is closed because they gate the entrance. Once I contacted customer service and was told I needed to use the app and do a self pickup, the app could not verify my location and then would not scan my license. The customer service rep on the phone had to do all that manually. Once I was finally able to get the code and retrieve the key, it went off like a normal uhaul pickup and all was fine. Maybe the experience would have been better if I was informed of the fact there would not be someone there to assist me or that I needed to use the app. Or maybe if the business was open and someone could have just informed me that way. My original reservation was at a uhaul store.
Sarah R1. They could get someone to work Saturday at least for a couple of hours 2. The reason a person should be available either on location or on call is because the app wasn’t working and customer service had us off and on hold for 2 hours. A 10:00 pick up became a 12:00 pick up. I lost 2 hours of time to pack up. You can’t get the keys out of the lockbox without working app. Customer Service couldn’t email the info. 3. Got a call on Friday to alert me that the tire pressure light might come on, but to ignore it and everything was fine. No one told me that the speedometer was broken. I couldn’t tell how fast I was going without a GPS app or some quick math because 120 mph on the speedometer was about 55/60. This caused great anxiety because how could I trust if any of the other gages worked. We tried calling around for another rental since this one was poor quality and none others were available. I had to use this truck. Check back in process was fine. I won’t be using this facility again or U-Haul if I can avoid it.
Jennifer FBlankets were not available. It was said that the homeless had stolen them. We think the homeless may have used the truck to sleep in as someone had defected inside. My men had to clean up the spot and tried to get rid of awful smell. Also the original spot I was promised a truck was in Moneta, Virginia. It ended up we had to pick up truck in Roanoke thus adding mileage to the trip which we had to pay. We are requesting a refund on extra mileage as we were promised a pick up for truck in Moneta and not in Roanoke. We were also promised extra miles. None of that happened. Empty promises.
