Eva was having problems with the internet (not her fault) I did the quick reservation onlne so things would move fast....that did NOT happen and at the end of the dat after signing out i was late for my next appointment.

Parking is very tight if there is a car in the stall next to the truck. Recommend getting a different spot in the lot.

The LOCATION is excellent because it is central and very convenient. However there are some problems I encountered during the rental experience. The parking lot has a steep grade, so it can be tricky maneuvering the truck if you're not familiar with driving utility vehicles. Helps to have another person to spot for you. The self pick-up process is FAR FROM PERFECT. The lady working at the storage business ended up offering to do a manual check-in and pick up after seeing me wait for a long time for the online photo verification to be processed. It was also very hard to do a thorough pre- and post- inspection, as it gets dark completely by 4:30pm during the winter here, and the interior lights of the vehicle wouldn't turn on (hence equipment NOT well maintained). One of the lights in the cargo area was loose and dangling from the ceiling. BILLING -- it would help immensely if it had been explained to me either by UHaul or by the point-of-purchase contact that there would be a hold on my credit card. I ended up spending time calling customer service the next day, only to be told that the amount charged (which happened to be about 20$ more than the actual amount incurred) I saw on my credit card was a HOLD, that it would be released, and the correct rental charge would be charged. Very confusing. What is intended to be a time-saving and convenient application (online self pickup) and efficient way to maximize rentals (having other businesses contracted to administer rentals) turn out to be more time and labour consuming. I hope UHaul fixes these inefficiencies lest it accrues a bad reputation!

Real time status online as some dealers can't guarantee vehicle if booked day\before last minute. Location is great but a little tight getting in and out. Payout dealers more money . Get dealers to provide 14 step behicle checklist beforejand as some customers won't have internet or smartphone. Also on a side note, spoke with Tashi and Trudy ref#1617569 & 1615468 regarding complaint. Apparently i was supposed to get a call back next day fom corporate head office but never did... Either way service and vehicle was excellent overall. Thanks. Michael.

The agent at Guardian Storage in Vancouver insisted that I sign the forms BEFORE doing an inspection and then insulted me personally when I requested an inspection. She also refused to allow entry to the cab of the vehicle unless I signed the insurance/inspection forms and then went on to promise to 'be very picky' when I returned the vehicle because I was being 'difficult' and 'ridiculous' for insisting that I was entitled/required to follow the very clear UHaul procedure. My calls to UHaul to file a complaint were noted but UHaul did nothing else to help the situation. The agent was not contacted to my knowledge, I was refused the option to change drop-off locations (given that she said that she would find damage even if I did not damage the vehicle), and no assistance was offered when I called to report that the agent would not conduct a check in inspection. Over all the UHaul experience made moving more stressful and difficult. I would not recommend this operation to anyone and have publicly posted my video recording of the terrible service so others can see exactly what transpired. UHaul should be willing to take responsibility for the conduct and service of their representatives. I have filed a complaint ref# 1610172. The name on the account is Walter Bradley Gooderham. The service associate was not well versed in the insurance add-on, this made it very difficult to understand what it was that we were buying. There should be a handout that covers this in the store.

At the conclusion of the rental, I returned the key to the office. The staff was very unhelpful. I'm not sure if she responded when I handed her the keys. Weird. People just aren't that friendly at service businesses in Vancouver.

Vehicle itself was clean and in good repair. But when I arrived at my first location to load, I opened the back and found a couch from the previous user (I did not check before i left the pickup location- I assumed the U-haul associate had done that, as I saw her close the cab door of the truck when I arrived). I did not have space to take this couch with me- I did not have time to leave it, and come back and pick it up after my job was finished- adding another hour, plus more mileage to my trip. I did not want to abandon it in front of my friends' apartment (i was helping a friend move)- I did not want to risk any fines for littering/ abandoning, for myself, my friend, or for U-Haul. My pickup location was closed, and the voicemail was full- so I couldn't leave a message. I called the 1-800 number, and after about a 15 min hold, a rep answered, She took my info and noted it on my agreement- and she found the contact number for the Area Field Manager, Mr David Chen. I called David, and he worked with me on managing the couch- he came and picked it up from my first location. I really appreciated Mr Chen's response and assistance in helping me out. Mr Chen's attitude and ownership towards the issue speak volumes of him as a person and a manager, and I think that U-haul is lucky to have him as a Manager.

Things went very well. It was a quiet Saturday (July 22). The young man was pleasant and helpful although the computer program he was forced to use was too rigid and showed some strange numbers. The van was clean and nearly new. The final bill was correct ( in spite of the aforementioned computer program). I do see why customers complain about the steep parking area.
