As I explained when I called the 800 number right after pick up, the reservation was for Saturday at 9 AM, I saw on my email that the genius at the location in Vero Beach was kind enough to cancel it while I was on my way there from Jacksonville, three hours away with no traffic mind you. I got there at 9:51 and he had an incredible attitude explaining to me that he canceled the reservation because I was late. I just looked at him and said “brother, I’m coming from Jacksonville, that’s three hours with no traffic“. it had zero gas in it, like 20 something miles to empty, and it was absolutely filthy, no gas and not clean. Disgraceful. when I complain to him about the gas, he told me to quote. Bring it back the same way then“, this is an important part of the story for when I get to Jacksonville. He also showed me the location to drop it off in Jacksonville, which I took screenshots of the iPad that he showed me on. I got to that location a little after 5 PM on Sunday night and thank goodness the gate was open because there were two guys working in the back, neither one of which spoke a word of English. The business was closed naturally, and when I asked those guys, they were kind enough to get the owner on the phone, Dylan, who, out of everyone I’ve ever dealt with that UHAUL probably was the nicest and the most accommodate of ever. I don’t know where you find the rest of these people and I don’t want to know. Definitely not at the Wharton school of business. After I had picked the truck up in the disaster’s condition, it was with the gas and being unclean, I called the 800 number and the regional Director Patricia was supposed to call me on Monday. Instead, Rick called me and I explained everything to him as well as the truck being loaded with two hand trucks instead of two furniture dollies that I had ordered when I made the reservation weeks ago. Rick was nice enough to refund the money for the dollies. After we went back-and-forth that there should be a lesser fee because there was no mileage going back from Jacksonville to Vero to return the truck, which also got us nowhere. I saw the next day, Tuesday, two days after I dropped the truck off Sunday night, that it was still not checked in on the app. By then I had to text Dylan again and let him know the truck was not checked in yet and I also let Rick know. Dylan sent me a text back letting me know that he was busy and just didn’t get around to it, two days mind you. He then finally checked it in and it showed an additional $51.42 would be charged to me for a fuel refill charge and a mileage charge. You can imagine I blew a gasket and I called and texted both Rick and Dylan. Again, as I stated above the genius in Vero Beach, who shouldn’t even have a UHAUL franchise with the way he treats people, explain to me to bring the truck back with the same amount of gas that I picked it up with, I dropped it off with 40 some miles to empty, twice the gas I picked it up with. I went back-and-forth with Rick again yesterday, Tuesday, as explained earlier and then eventually at about two in the afternoon he told me to give him an hour, and he would get back to me. I have all those text messages as well if you would like to see them. It is now Wednesday morning at 8:51 AM and I have still yet to hear back from Rick. Absolutely does not surprise me with my experience each and every time with UHAUL. It is always a disaster and the people are always incompetent morons. I explained to Rick as I did to Dylan that if they hit my debit card for $51.42 I will absolutely positively file a lawsuit over it. It will take me about three seconds to find out where the county courthouse is in Jacksonville and to print out the forms and file them. I will also send a letter to the CEO of UHAUL, as I did in March 2023 with the disaster I had leaving Myrtle Beach for Florida. UHAUL never ceases to be a disgrace
PAT BLocation and the service at the location leaves much to be desired. Renting a truck out of a run down mechanic garage with no office seemed sketchy??? However everything went well.
