The vehicle I picked up was dirty. I had to clean all of the windows. The A/C was blowing warm air, so, on a 3000 miles journey in the hot temperatures....that was not fun. This vehicle had not been checked by the u-haul location before being dispatched. It's not the first time I used u-haul, and, I may use someone else in the future.

Better organization of the pick up and drop off process outside - it was chaotic and disorganized out in front with Uhaul trucks, vans, trailers, etc. parked randomly all over the place with customer vehicles interspersed. There was barely enough room to maneuver through the parking lot in a small car let alone a 15ft van. There was also a significant wait inside even though we were the only customers in the store and there was someone available to assist us.

With respect to cleanliness, the vehicle was a low mileage (1610 kilometres), 9-foot cargo van that was slightly dusty inside but the exterior was covered in dirt, a tree branch scuff mark along the passenger side and bird droppings all over the rear doors. It looked like it had never been washed. Just a quick exterior hose-down on the previous vehicle return would have shown some corporate pride and been relatively cost-effective. Staff member Jesse was very knowledgeable and helpful.

I would hope that the bad service was just because I hit a day with not enough people working ... because it turned out when only outside person went to get the keys they couldn’t find them, then the van had a tire puncture so had to have paperwork redone for different van, I was leaving 45 minutes late... so I recommend don’t plan on tight timing. Lucky I didn’t have a ferry reservation...

On a Saturday morning only one person doing the rentals with a long line of customers waiting!! The van we rented was dirty.



Perhaps get more staff at the front counter? I waited for about 1/2 an hour in line, but the guy there was moving as fast as he could. Maybe if there were two or three staff there would be no waiting. I applaud the fellow who helped me out, (Bronwyn?), as he was fast an efficient, knew his way around the computer, and fixed Robert's screw-ups.

I was automatically charged for damage insurance without being asked. The attendant didn't tighten the nut up on the ball of the trailer - it could have come off I was charged a cleaning fee after I dropped it eventhough I blew the trailer out spotless with a leaf blower

Booking on the phone was easy and fast. The man on the phone was very helpful. Picking up the truck was slow because there were not enough staff on at that time of day, 3:00pm. The young man who served us was very good considering the pressure he was working under. Very nice even though it was crazy in the store. When we dropped off, we had a lovely helpful, efficient young woman. Overall, your staff are excellent, your truck was perfect, but you need to consider having more staff on when times are busy.

This location is convenient in that it is centrally located. We would have preferred the James Bay pickup and drop off location, but foor some reason it was never an option even though the website said it was.

Staff at the pickup location were disorganized, visibly frustrated with each other, and repeatedly walked away from customers in the middle of dealing with them expecting other staff to pick up where they left off often without communication either between them or to us. Jessie was incredibly rude to us. Due to an issue with the rental, I then had to spend an hour on the phone, being passed around between another 4 different people. One cut me off and put me on hold mid-sentence, the next insisted she could not help despite the first transferring me to her specifically for that, the third was unable to help as her location had nothing to do with my booking (obviously, not sure why the second thought to transfer me to her) but gave me the number to head office. Finally, the woman at head office was able to solve the issue and make the necessary changes to my booking. However, upon dropping off the uhaul, I found that the dropoff location did not have the updated version with the changes that the woman from head office had made. We were able to solve this, but it caused additional frustration and confusion. Horrible experience.

The vehicle I had reserved was not available. Thankfully the woman working there was able to find me another vehicle but there was a delay of nearly 30min as a result. Later when I went to return the vehicle there were further delays because apparently the vehicle I was given was reserved for someone else who was now waiting for their vehicle. Overall the staff seemed overworked but in general were very helpful.

After driving across Canada, I arrived to learn that my 'reserved' storage unit was actually a waitlist. I had to find new storage on a stat holiday that would fit a 20' truck. While Jessie was lovely and sympathetic, the free day she extended me wasn't processed in the system. So, when I returned the truck a day later as agreed, Christopher hit me with a late charge. He said without paperwork, it was vapour. He said there was no manager onsite and that the Call Centre couldnt help. I told him I would refute the charges on my visa. He was a) not empathetic, b) NOT even remotely helpgul and c) clearly not meant to be in a customer facing role. Best of luck to anyone else renting here.

The trailer did not have a valid insurance sticker on the license plate. I was stopped by the police and severely inconvenienced. The manager at the store accused me of lying about this and offered no compensation.

Check in at Topaz Saturday morning for a reserved vehicle took 45 minutes. Not acceptable.



What a terrible, terrible experience. I should have learned my lesson last time I moved but I have this time and won’t ever use u-haul again. For such a huge company you’d think they’d have simple problems worked out and a better customer service system. I made my reservations in early July for my July 31 move. Had planned to pick up morning of the 31st but because we were moving to Vancouver Island and didn’t have time to waste (and miss our ferry) I decided to change the reservations to the night before (for 2 5x8 trailers). Two days before I get a text saying my one trailer is confirmed for Port Moody, 56 minutes from me. No, not happening. I call, spend 26 minutes on hold and 5 minutes total speaking to 3 different representatives. The last rep said I didn’t have to worry anymore cause my trailer was no longer reserved, they just rented it to someone else. What?! So if I hadn’t had made this call I would have driven to Port Moody and no trailer would have been there. I also requested to NOT pick up in Yarrow as I wasted FOUR HOURS last time dealing with them. They did not know how to hook up the trailer or complete any of the paperwork. We just left, complete and utter nonsense. The day before my reservation, I get the text confirmation for one trailer to pick up in Mission at 3:00 and the other for YARROW at 6:00 for a 6x12. On the phone again saying, nope, not going there and also, I need a 5x8 as I am going on a ferry and already paid. On hold 17 minutes, speak to someone, transferred, on hold again, explain again to another lady what’s going on. She said they have one available 5x8 being dropped off in Chilliwack at 4 so I can pick it up at 4:30. SOO pick up with one car in Mission @3, drive home 25 minutes then RACE to Chilliwack 30 minutes away with the other car and make it by 4:30 because they close at 5 to get my other trailer. All the while my boyfriend is at work. And if there is ANY hold up I am SCREWED. The customer service lady I spoke to said she’d call the current rental customer to make sure they are dropping off by 4pm and she would call me back. Surprise… no call back! The next morning at 9 & 10 I called the non-haul places that I was picking up the trailers from. They both said I could pick up the trailers at any time as they are already at the location, perfect. I went to one at 1pm and the other at 3pm, no rushing around. The next day —moving day— we hit the road, I called Victoria u-haul (drop off location) to let them know I wouldn’t be there at 1pm as it said on my form because I was forced to pick up sooner. The lady was extremely rude to me and said I’d be charged $20 for the late fee. She transferred me to someone who had authority to wave this, and I sat on hold for 10 minute then I got disconnected. Skip forward a few hours, we arrive to u-haul, we had reserved a 10x13 storage room and it was NOT available when we arrived.
